Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

i still stand by this MCH or bust

i cant picture anyone more perfect for the role

I hate the idea of MCH. Absolutely haaaate it. I think he's an awesome actor, but Dexter is a darker version of Daredevil. Someone in law enforcement who takes justice into his own hand. Such an uninspired casting choice. Hall could do it because.. he already does it.

Let's try to think outside the box.

outside the box does'nt mean better

mch fits the character visually and his acting talents are top notch and we know he could do the character justice

when the first one was announced i hoped guy pierce, this time around my choice would be gosling

Guy Pearce is too old and Gosling would never do it. It's probably gonna be some on-the-rise kid. If Marvel had the rights, you can be sure they'd find the perfect guy.

If the script is good Gosling may do it, it's alright being the cool indie kid but most are smart enough to make some coin. Damon and Levitt have shown you can get a blockbuster or two on your CV for a payday and it still be good.

From Collider December 7th, 2011:
Fox Executive Tom Rothman Updates on the Status of a Sequel to X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and Reboots for DAREDEVIL and FANTASTIC FOUR
Brendan Bettinger said:
Ever since 2008′s Iron Man, Marvel Studios has carved out a profitable niche in Hollywood independently financing the film adaptations of the Marvel comics. However, because of the nature of film rights, a few of Marvel’s most popular properties are housed at other studios. Fox has three: X-Men, Daredevil, and Fantastic Four. In a recent interview, Fox executive Tom Rothman stressed the studio is eager to continue development on the next chapter in those respective stories—a sequel to X-Men: First Class and reboots for Daredevil and Fantastic Four.

Critics loved First Class, and $353 million worldwide is nothing to sneeze at. But it is the lowest grosser among the five movies in the X-Men franchise. Still, Fox would like a sequel if they can get the script right:
“It’s ‘go’ in the sense that we’re trying like hell. We’re trying as hard as we can. We really want to do it. We’re planning to do it. But the reason, in addition to [Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy] and Matthew Vaughn, that it was as good as it was that the script was really good. The key to making a great continuing franchise is to have a great script, so we’re working hard on it.”

We credit director Matthew Vaughn for much of what made First Class great. But it is not certain that Vaughn will return to direct future X-Men installments:
“I know he’d like to. We certainly would like him to. But it’s a matter of, as I said, getting a script that’s really worthy.”

As for Daredevil and Fantastic Four, Rothman confirmed that Fox is working on reboots for both, and indicated what they’d like to accomplish:
“Daredevil is still with David Slade. It’s in development now. We’re working on it and Fantastic Four. I think for all of us, the bar has been raised, so we’ve got to aim high now. Marvel’s done a terrific job with their films. Where our Marvel movies are concerned or other movies like that. It’s like what we had with Planet of the Apes this summer. I think it’s important for us to really aim high and deliver an A-level experience to the audience.”
Fox, and Rothman in particular, has taken heat in the past for a cynical, corporate approach to filmmaking. But the studio did provide a great summer for film geeks with the one-two punch of First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I can only dream that is, as Rothman implies, the status quo at Fox from here on out.

The Rise of the Apes guys being on board for the DD reboot is great news.

I didn't know they were officially planning on rebooting Daredevil and coming from the guys that produced the lastest Planet of the Apes movie, then I'm all for it.

if they reboot dare devil does any one know what year its going to comingout?

I think some like Lee Pace would be a good out of the box casting choice. I thought he was impressive in The Fall and Infamous.

Pace is playing Elven King Thranduil and father of Orlando Blooms chracter Legolas in Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies. He is also playing Fernando Wood in Spielbergs Lincoln movie.

No date set yet, but I'd guess late 2013 at earliest, while Summer 2014 is most likley I'd guess.

depends on what direction they go

if they want an older experienced DD there is only 1 man for the job

I've been watching some Homeland, and I think Damian Lewis really is a great choice for Matt Murdock. He's 40, which, I think, is the right age for Murdock this time around. That way, Daredevil can be a worn-down hero and Matt an established lawyer. I don't want to see another origin story, and Lewis is the perfect age for a Born Again / The Man Without Fear-style story.

Thanks. Jenkins and Donal Logue are probably my favorite choices up there.

something needs to happen soon. an official announcement on casting and filming dates by spring at the latest.. no excuses..

The funny thing is...I'm now thinking that there is more chance of getting an interesting DD movie from Fox, than there would have been from Marvel studios if they had got the rights back...given that the Marvel movies all have this same kind of safe feel. It's funny that they are now owned by Disney, because, without even thinking of that takeover, I was thinking there that they are kind of like Disney now, being so careful with their stable of characters that there is not much room for experimentation, for the artists involved to take any creative risks.
