I think the Director's cut is really interesting. For instance, Matt not leaving Elektra to rescue a victim in the theatrical run was a huge mistake. They toned down the romance in the DC, which was great, especially because Elektra was a bland character here. Garner did what she could, but the writting was weak, probably because they were aiming for a more vanilla kind of romance.
The court scenes should never have been deleted. They make the plot way more interesting, and the Matt/Foggy banter really works. They had a great chemistry.
The kingpin story works better too, now we know why the police come after him.
The playground scene is still stupid, and shouldn't be here. I'm also divided on how murderous he is at first. Granted, it allows for character development, but I would have prefered a MOs scenario, where he can't avoid killing the dude. Or even better, make him chase the fixer, and because he's so scary, the fixer has a heart attack, like in the comics. You would still have said character development.
Colin Farrell as bullseye was annoying, funny, crazy, and mostly, not bullseye. With him not feeling like bullseye and Elektra not being really Elektra, her murder, while faithful visually to DD 181, wasn't as powerful, nor as brutal as it should have been.
The origin thing was well made, but I would have liked some mention of Stick.
The action scenes were uneve. The bar fight is glorious, and so is the final fight against the kingpin, but the other fights are disappointing, and so is the large use of CGI.
That said, I really like the DC, and it's obvious the director loves the character. It's an enjoybale, if flawed movie, but it could have been s much better in other hands. I will still watch it again tonight though ^^
