Dark Souls II

speaking of which, have they improved the character creation since the last game as I always thought that was lacking with the characters looking ugly with little options for the most part

so far, for me, the Creator has allowed me to create a female model that I find "attractive" enough.

so, it suits me.

however, it does seem lacking in hair style options for females. so that's a bit disappointing.

also, it lets you choose the "homeland" that determines your base face model.

however, it doesn't provide any detail/explanation of what those homelands are. In Dark Souls, I believe, it offered a brief description of each homeland.

thanks. so that's what that item is for.......lol.

are they rare items to find/acquire throughout the game?

They aren't that rare, but they aren't plentiful either. I have like 16 right now. Obviously if you use them to summon for boss fights you'll run out fairly quickly.

I believe there is a place later where you can farm for them, and some vendors sell a limited amount. There is also a place much later in the game where you can interact with an item and turn human, but you must have no effigies in your inventory (and this isn't as ideal as using an effigy, because you'll have to run areas as human instead of just popping it when you need it).

ah, thanks!

I caved and got ahold of a copy. Really loving it so far.

It's great. It's killing me that I don't have more time during the week to play it.

Man I can't wait to start playing. But I won't until I finish MGSV and Infamous this weekend. Then probably have to wait until next weekend to sit down. Because I want no other games in my way, because I know it will take lots of time required for this.

Dark Souls 2 is my entry to the Souls franchise, i got a few noob questions:
- Is there a vendor where i can sell my useless gear? I've put all my junk in the Item Box, but haven't found a person who would buy things.
- Tips on getting those Titanium Shard things for Blacksmith?
- How important is it to get rid of the Hollow status? Zombie mode that is, and whats the best way to find those items that return your Humanity?

Any kind tips are welcomed.

- Yes, there is one in an area called No Man's Warf.
- You'll find another vendor who sells the titanite, and there is an enemy later who drops them. Don't worry about using them either, they are plentiful as you get further into the game.
- The reasons to remove your Hollow are:
  • Your health decreases every time you die (up to 50%), and you can only restore your full health by becoming human again. There is a ring you can get to help dealing with this.
  • You can only Summon people into your world (for co-op) if you are human.
The effigies are pretty rare early on. You can buy some from an early vendor, and you'll find them as pick ups in the areas. As you get further you'll get more. You can easily run out of them, though, so don't waste them. Again, there is something much later in the game that will help with this.

I'm actually gonna just make a ne w character, i managed to get up to 50% health decrease and i accidently used my effigies at the bonfire, i thought i would get my humanity back lol! I need to practice my parry, but i'm pretty good at using the dodge and watching my opponents movements. I really am digging the old school vibe, but i kinda feel they should have had some better tutorial for brand new players, since this Dark Souls 2 is suppose to be their biggest one yet.

I'm playing a Knight, what stats would you recommend me? The stat/leveling system kinda weirded me out first, but classic RPG wise, i guess endurance + stre + vigor for the win?

Just picked this up. Any tips or tricks at the start? Things to look for or not do?

Hmm, I guess one early thing that has gotten a few people is the Company of Champions covenant. There is a stone tablet in the Majula area of the game, basically your base, that is easily found right after you get out of the tutorial area. Interacting with it will allow you to join the covenant, and if you do (and don't abandon it for another one) it makes the entire game almost NG+ hard.

A lot of people have been finding the game crazy hard and the reason is they joined the covenant without paying attention. You can always join it to get the achievement and then join the other one available in Majula.

If you're using swords/spears/axes primarily, keep a blunt weapon like a mace or club on hand too. There are plenty of armored enemies that take more damage from a blunt (strike) weapon.

There is also a well, not the giant hole but an actual well, in Majula that might need a good sword whacking. :cwink:

Yeah, burning the effigies in the fire just decreases your chances for invasion (which has rarely happened to me outside of the specific invasion zones), I have never burned one in a fire. Just use them out of your inventory.

Dark Souls 2 has a more in depth tutorial than DS1 did, there isn't even a boss in the tutorial area like there was last time.

Strength is always good, it will let you hold bigger weapons. Look out for weapons that have a high scale with Strength too (S, A, B, C) so you get more damage. Around 40 is where this stat starts to not be worth dumping points into.

I would also focus on Endurance and Vitality. More endurance is always a good thing and Vitality increases your health and equip load. As the percentage of your total equip load increases you roll/move slower. Keeping your equipment under 65-70% of your load will let you keep the fast roll. So you want to pump up your Vitality so you can fast roll with heavier armor.

Adaptability will increase resistances but will also increase your poise, which helps you not get knocked back. It will also increase the speed you do things like drink flasks, though the difference is small. Most people suggest bumping this up to 20-25.

You can put points into Dex mainly to meet requirements for weapons, and it will still add damage.

Just be sure to figure out what kind of weapon you like and put the appropriate stats in for it. Keep an eye on what it scales with.

Yea iv heard about that Covenant. I also found that item in the well.

Iv noticed that like 90% of the blood stains(in Majula) are the result of ppl just walking off cliffs haha.

are there any good online guides on how to build your character, based on what direction you want to take your character?

like, if you want to build a "spellsword"(sorcerer/knight) combo?

I admit I'm kind of intimidated by all the stats......lol.

Then you would probably want to focus on Strength (for your sword damage), Intelligence (for you magic), Attunement (to equip more spells), and Faith (for miracles and hexes). Things like Endurance and Vitality are always good to dump points into.

Here is a good breakdown of each stat and what the points go toward: http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Stats#.UzGLWnWx3g8

so as the game progresses, is there any more backstory given to your character?

I doubt it. I'd hope so though. I'm not very far in and just like the previous games I'm starting to lose interest. I just don't get it. Iv also picked up South Park and that's starting to take away some time from DSII

Why did you even get it? It seemed pretty clear in your earlier posts that you weren't fond of the games, why did you think this would be any different?

My friend is far into it, makes me mad that I'm trying to finish all these other games/TV shows before I sit down and focus purley on DS2. *Crossing my fingers for this weekend or at latest next.

Not really sure. Thought maybe I just overlooked something in the last games. Iv not liked games before, but ended up really digging their sequels. I got the game used tho, so I still have time to return it.

Woah i didn't even notice this! I haven't had much time to play this, i'm still at the Forests of the Last Giant, been farming souls (haha, this is how you know it's from the East, farming!!!) to improve my armor and weapons, but yeah now that i am using my mace, those zombies with halberds and two-handed swords go down much easier. I still haven't fully realized the weapons and armor stats, i'm a bit of a noob with these things.

Ah the infamous DS1 tutorial, i've seen a few videos of it.

Thanks! I'm playing a Knight for my first ever Dark Souls (this is my first Souls game) and i want to make this Holy Templar dude, but right now yeah i'm improving my melee stats, will improve my Faith once i start getting spells.

I defeated the 1st boss, huzzah!

hmm.. I was thinking about renting this since I just got a free month trial of Gamefly, but after reading things here I don't think it sounds right for me. Although I've been surprised in the past and ended up enjoying games that are outside of my comfort zone (Skyrim). So maybe I'll at least try it out for a day or two and see how I feel.

Not quite sure if I like the idea of no real story and the dying and restarting from scratch type thing that I've read. Seems like a complex game idk haha.
