David Finch: "No More Ultimate Comics."

What I never got was why it has become so similar to 616. I mean, I thought the point was to re-imagine the MU in a more modern take. Like in Millar and Hitch's Ultimates.

But why didn't they do something cooler with USM like have MJ die and let Gwen Stacy live?

Or keep what's different about Ultimates different instead of just making everybody the exact same as 616 out of nowhere for no reason (Stupid Loeb).

What the **** is the point of an Ultimate Universe if it's just all the same as the 616 Universe anyway?

Yeah I don't see it happening either. Besides Joe Q said in Wizard that only one of the Ult titles will be canceled after Ultimatum. Heres hopin it UFF that gets the boot.

Well as long as it's not USM, I'm ok with canceling a title. UFF was brilliant and exciting during Millar's run and got pretty stale after that.

Well sure MJ lived and Gwen died, but I'd say that there are plenty of changes/differences from 616 Spidey to USM. MJ's alive, but she's known Peter's secret since Issue #13. Gwen's dead, but she's returned as a clone who's also Carnage. Pete dated Kitty Pryde. Etc.

Yeah, I guess you're right. It just seems that over time they are trying to make it more similar than different.

Liz Allen probably wishes things were more similar than they are right now. ;) :D

Are they cancelling the line? I doubt they'd cancel USM as it is their biggest seller, but we'll see. Maybe now that Quesada has finally killed the spider-marriage he's like "I'm fine, no more need for USM."

I really doubt it.

This is a publicity stunt IMO.

..it also adds a lot of punch to somthing called "ultimatum"

PS ..Ultimate captain america is the coolest guy in comics.

well thats just really ultimates 3...which is an aberrition of sorts.

BTW i dont understand how they can claim this separate stuff when we have already seen Ultimate Wolverine v Hulk in 616..and we have seen the OG squadron in the ultimate universe. Not to mention the zombies stuff.

Biggest seller compared to what?

What I really want to know is if Finch's face looked like this while he said it:

David Finch sells comics yo. His art isn't that good but he makes lemonade out of lemonfaces.

Don't cancel Ultimate Spider-Man...everything else can go.

And for the love of all sanity, get rid of Ultimate Captain America. What a joke. That is not freaking Captain America. I thought the goal of the Ultimate line was to stay true to the character's personality, but to place them in a fresh and updated universe? Not make the character an lunatic who dates married women...

Actually, I've always felt that Captain America would pretty much act like that if he woke up today. Imagine being in the 50's and waking up today.

Every man is a WUSS, women have a ton of power and independance, and no one likes America anymore. I can understand why a macho guy from yesteryear might come off as a jackass and a lunatic.

Ridiculous.

You really want your Captain America to be all like:

"What?! Women have jobs. What **** is this?"

No, but it's an interesting difference from the 616, which was the whole purpose of the Ultimate line, no?

Making a ton of cash off the suckers willing to buy it.

When was the 616 Cap ever a "macho guy"?

I know many people don't like any Ultimate books...but I still love "Ultimate Spider-Man" and I'm not worried, since I'm sure Marvel do not have the gall to yank that book from Bendis.

I agree with whoever said that they'll be pulling another MC2 Spider-Girl thing with this...which is what I'm sure they'll do.

I doubt they'll do this, but I wish they would.
I get sick of the Ultimate Universe being the go too place for video games, for movies, and when I talk to random fans after a Hulk or Iron Man showing they rather talk about the Ultimates then the 616.

I don't feel I'm a complete comics conservative, but ****, respect the 616 and lets not act like Ultimates is one up on the Universe that started it all.

No, other than USM, I don't care for the rest of the Ultimate Universe. The only other one I read is the Ultimate Iron Man mini's, but that is because of Orson Scott Card, who wrote one of my favorite Sci-Fi series of books in the world.

The 616 universe still beats it though, especially with the ressurection of the cosmic characters, Nova and the GotG being pure awesome. Also the X-Men haven't been this good in ages, with Carey finally doing very interesting work with Xavier.

You make it sound like 616 Cap was out of touch with reality when he, er, bit the bullet. You been bedding with Sally Floyd? I agree with Darth that Cap shouldn't have a problem with women's place in society...because Cap wasn't out of touch with reality. To me, this man is America...he represented America, and we all know that Steve didn't take that lightly. He made sure he was always true to what America was and is, in essence, while at the same time holding on to those nostalgic qualities that let you know that that this guy came from an era before our own. He knows what America was, what America is, and what America should be based on all that, yet he still has that "everyman" quality that, while he is deeply respected, keeps him from being a godlike character. I mean, isn't that his schtick? The ULTIMATE Patriot (no pun intended.) That's 616 Cap.

Then over here you have Ultimate Cap who cracks jokes about the French (that's gonna do a lot to make people like America more :whatever:) and abandons much of what makes his 616 counterpart so iconic. As you might have guessed, my biggest pet peeve is the stint he had with Janet Van ****, while she was in a majorly messed up relationship and generally unstable...emotionally. Blah...he's just not Cap. Shame if that's the only Cap that someone knows, especially with Ed Brubaker's run readily available. [Mr. T]I pity the fool[/Mr. T]
