David Fleming & John Murphy/The Score & Composer Thread

Another play around.
That's awesome as well.
That makes my mind see superman taking a leisurely flyover of metropolis, enjoying his ability to fly.
I can see him slowing down next to a flock of geese, then flying next to a plane where a little kid waves out the window to him as he waves back.
Then he flies down to the water, dipping a hand in it as he glides over.

If Godzilla Minus One can get away with using the original theme, I fail to see why this can't.

I know others disagree, but with all the donner influence(s) we are seeing in this, it's pretty obvious ( to me ) we will at least get a snippet of the Williams theme.
What influences are we seeing?

What influences are we seeing?
Otis, miss tessmacher, the S back on the cape, nerdy Clark. ( yes I know some of it was already in the comics ) but we haven't seen some of it since donner.

Don't get me wrong, I fully expect a brand new theme for superman, along with some rock songs, but at some point, I fully expect to hear the 8 familiar beats of the Williams theme.
With everything I've seen so far, I don't think Gunn will be able to resist having a snippet of it.

Love the Williams theme, but I don't want to hear it here even for one or two key moments. The task at hand is to create something new that makes people go "Never heard that before, but it's Superman alright. Can't see it working this well with anything else". I'm a big Giacchino fan, but hearing the "Does whatever a spider can" tune in his Spidey score frustrates me a little.

If Snyder pulled it off with Zimmer, this shouldn't aspire to anything less.

I remember David Corenswet being asked about what super powers he would want. He of course said "the force" and also John Williams music playing wherever he went.

I wouldn't be upset if we got John Williams theme, but I'd love it if he got his own iconic theme a little more.

I don’t want the John Williams Superman theme outright, but I wouldn’t mind maybe something in the same or similar spirit as or being inspired by his music.

Kind of like how, from what James Gunn has said and the set photos that we’ve seen, clearly wears the Donner Superman film influences on its sleeve (the colors of the suit, the very clear dichotomy between Superman and Clark, different versions of the Lex Luthor henchman characters with the same names that originated in the 1978 film, etc.), but isn’t solely or taking directly wholesale from that film.

I wouldn't mind just reusing the Williams theme. Because I don't have much faith in Murphy creating a particularly memorable or rousing theme of his own. Just reusing the Williams theme and building a serviceable but not particularly great score around that will be fine.

I see the John Williams theme as a general Superman theme at this point, like the Addams Family theme song, that has been used by all subsequent adaptations after the 60s series.

There’s hardly any doubt in my mind that the Williams theme is coming back in some form. Maybe some hints of the animated series theme sprinkled in there as well.

I wish they would do a motif with superman like Williams did but have it be full of electric guitar so it feels like you're flying, like Zimmer did, but with the sup-er-man sound from Williams. Have it be larger than life and like a audio bat signal like the old serials and shows.

I'd like to see what an Incredibles-like jazz version of the Williams theme would be like.

Gonna be honest, I really don’t have much faith in this guy to come up with something memorable enough or worthy of Superman, so I wouldn’t really mind if they heavily incorporated The Williams score

Like if he does, great. But this will definitely be one of those “ya gotta hear it to believe it” instances

This is a pure gut feeling, but my hunch is that Murphy will do a rearrangement of the Williams' theme.

Though didn’t Gunn say there would be no Williams theme in the movie?🤔

I’d like to hear a few snippets of both Williams (and Zimmer too) but I’d ❤️to hear something new too…

It might be a cliche needle drop but I'd love to see it happen.

Sure, but the problem is that Superman didn’t originate in film. As a comic-book character, he doesn’t really have a definitive sound. I love the Williams theme (and the Zimmer theme, for that matter), but I’m hoping for some new material.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Murphy is a very talented composer, so maybe the smartest move is to fall back on Williams’ classic.

The Williams' theme is classic, but I for the life of me do not want it back. I don't want recycled themes. It leaves no room for artist to create. They should've never used it again after Superman Returns imo.

Ok but Star Trek didn't originate on film and it still got to keep the classic theme for the reboots. Ignoring the first movie made up a new theme that would be used for TNG, of course.
