David Fleming & John Murphy/The Score & Composer Thread

A new Superman should get a new theme. Just like the suit, actor, and all that other jazz, a new theme is just as important in helping craft this new Superman's identity on film. Same has happened for Batman and Spider-Man. It's worked just fine for all of them on tv.

Now whether Murphy is up to the task or capable of creating something as interesting or memorable as Williams/Zimmer, entirely different question. I say "No" which is a shame, but who knows. It's Gunn, so highly possible that whatever needle drop he ends up making the title song will always be associated with Superman going forward same way "Hooked on a Feeling" is for the Guardians. Ideally we get lucky with a "Something in the Way" and a great theme like with The Batman.

John Murphy has made iconic themes before, he's just gotta do it one more time.

Quiet you. I know what sort of trash you consider "music".

I still think a techno inspired orchestral theme to signify a mix of traditional and science fiction elements of Superman would be really fun.

Superman has had PLENTY of great themes in the past, from the Fleischer serials/radio show onward, and should absolutely continue to do so. No recycling old themes, pls.
I've always thought the Lois & Clark theme is underrated myself. It's actually my second favorite one following the Williams' theme.

I adore that theme! Also, Christopher Drake's All-Star Superman score makes me tear up every time, and I didn't even like that movie!

Christopher Drake is so underrated. His TDKR score was perfect.

That score rules! It’s like the perfect marriage of Fiedel and Carpenter, with some Zimmer and Elfman thrown in for good measure. I love it so much!

Gunn has mishmashed several comic book eras of superman in the suit and from film, also past films seem to have had a influence on who the cast is.

I fully expect that angle to carry on in the main theme also.
It will be a new theme, but it most likely will have influences from fleischer, STM, superman the animated series, etc.
There is No reason for me to think otherwise with all i've seen so far.

I was thinking about how eager I am to hear what we'll get for Superman, it is the next big unrevealed thing I am excited for. It made me wonder when we will get to hear it because I assume it wouldn't be from a trailer. Gunn usually uses popular songs in his trailers and I'd guess this won't be different. Anyone wager a guess as to when we might hear some?

I'm fairly confident that we will get several familiar songs. I'd stick to the classics and avoid any very modern songs.
I'd love to hear the Beatles here comes the sun.
Black hole sun is another. Especially with a Lex scene.

I really want Bowie's Man who sold the world to play as Lex stares out of his building after a reveal of an evil act.

The more I hear and see, the more I'm convinced we will hear AT LEAST some of the Williams theme.

Sounds good. Can hear hints of both Williams and Zimmer in there.
Yeah, the sound is reminiscent of some part of Zimmer's soundtrack for MOS. The John Williams theme is staight-up quoted though.
Very curious. I didn't expect that but it's also just a snippet and too early for me to really have an opinion.
But it will sure be debated! :funny:
