Sequels David Lindsay-Abaire writing Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi may not always get it right, but he´s constanlty looking for quality writers, not the flavor-of-the-month blockbuster specialist, and I salute him for that.

Agreed. Whatever good that came out of Vanderbilt's draft(s) will hopefully be carried over if it suits the story.

I wonder how Sam felt about Vanderbilt's draft? Hopefully, we get to hear what Sam thought about it and hear why he chose someone else (I'm not mad he chose someone else, I'm just curious).

Me too, I’m also curious about Sam thoughts in Vanderbilt's draft… Hopefully, there’ll be something up tomorrow or soon regarding the matter.

I'm kinda upset that they're getting someone else to write it. I was very excited to hear that Vanderbilt was writing it. Hopefully DLA doesn't dissappoint.

Zodiac VS Robots... hmm, let's see. Which is the better film, which is the more enjoyable feature. Hmmmmm. Tough to choose! They're both so good, except Robots.

This may already have been mentioned, I just skimmed this thread, but isn't it interesting that just a short time after Maguire and Rami were announced to officially be back on the project, Vanderbilts script gets dumped?

Remember, Vanderbilt at one point talked about how he was going to take this in a different direction, and it was wierd for him to be telling the people who had made these movies how to make this one. I think Rami and Maguire meddled in it too much, that Vandy's script was too far departed from what had been established in the previous three films.

Indeed, I speculate that its possible Vanderbilts script would be much more inline with what most true Spidey fans want, a Spider film that is much more in-line with the comics, with a properly written Peter Parker and a proper Spiderman, spouting quips at every turn. This would be a DRASTIC change from the Spiderman in Rami's films, and since Rami and Maguire are back on board, you have to wonder if something like this isn't whats going on.

Remember, Vanderbilts script was commissioned when it was rumored there would be a whole new group doing SM4, and it may have been geared towards a fresh approach and a new cast. He didn't want to compromise his script for Maguire and Rami, they wanted their own writer, so Vanderbilt had to go.

Again, all in speculation.

That's a good deduction you have that fits perfectly with I've been saying over the past weeks..... that Vandy does not have writers' autonomy. Your deduction may be proven correct.

"True" Spider-Man fans want a good movie from material that they feel strongly about.

The 'true' James Bond fans thought they knew what was best for the Bond franchise, yet when CR did away with so many core elements and told it's own story (yeh, CR is a book, I just meant it followed it's own rules) using the characters they made what is easily one of the best Bond movies ever made.

In this Spider-Man fans humble opinion, cramming it with jokes and quips would have been an awful, truly dreadful choice. If they give the character a more positive feel, fine, but I certainly don't want him making cheesy jokes about everything.

Perhaps if they gear up the overall tone of the movie to a more 'adult' feel, then they could afford more quips, but as it is in SM1/2, definitely not.

well either Vanderbilt or Lindsay Albaire, I hope they come up with great script.

who said it was him who chose someone else? I think it was Sony.

"True" Spider-Man fans wants Spidey quiping. making jokes while fighting. Vash1538 is right. Spidey does that all the time in the comics, against everyone. the only exception was Morlun. it's a huge part of his character, and the movies incredibly lack it. it's amazing how they can get Spidey right in cartoons, games and sorts, but can't in a movie. you'd think those behind the movies would think twice before doing something to not do it wrong.

He does indeed, but I he doesnt do it when MJ, Aunt May, or Harry are in danger does he? I know I wouldnt be quipping when fighting for the lives of one of the 3 people I love most in this world.

Well, one of them is dead now, so I guess that leaves room for some extra quippiness.

actually...yeah. sometimes. the most recent I can remember: "thanks for the tip, Mac. oh, and b.t.w, thanks for leaving the door open. well, more like leaving the wall open. so not cool. you do understand this's a shelter, right? that means a roof and four walls. good man. now let's see who Veenie here was talking toooo--oh dear. *looks to Anti-Venom* Another one? just what I need. white this time. that's great. we haven't done white yet."

this was in a battle against Mac Venom, and not only Aunt May was in danger, but so many other people, too. but I understand what you're saying. in a battle against Goblin, in which Harry was in danger, Spidey wasn't cracking jokes, but he was talkative. he always is. he just IS like that, but the movies didn't capture this.
hopefully, there won't be more MJ kidnapping in the next movie. I, like many others, want Spidey talkative, quiping. cracking jokes. he'll be serious when he needs to be serious, but still won't shut up.

Exactly. And don't give me the bullsh1t answer of them doing it in the comics. How many times has fe faced the villiains? He probably knows them inside and out already. These are FILMS. Him quipping when Aunt May being dropped over the edge of the building in SM2 would be a bad idea. Please, give me some points where he could quip thatdidn't involve his loved ones in danger, a group of people to the entire city. Big things happen in a film. It's a major event. They can't revist the characters each time like in the comics.

I said KRS earlier just because I enjoy the "old-school" hip-hop...KRS-One, Wu-Tang Clan, Canibus, Public Enemy...which is funny, because I'm white. But I'm actually going to be talking to KRS-One face-to-face on Saturday which is pretty fantastic.

But, yah, RAP....I'm not a fan of. Good stuff that happened from the 80s and early 90s, then I'm a fan of that, and I was born in '88, but yet I am a fan of music before my time, i.e. AC/DC, Nazareth, Scorpions, Blue Oyster Cult, Blues Traveler, Led Zeppelin, Kansas, even Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, etc.

But, this isn't a hip-hop thread, so I shouldn't be going off on an old-school rap lecture, haha.

^^ Best music from the 90's, IMO, is Nirvana.

Anyway, this is getting kind of off topic, lol.
