We can do things with digital repair now. Actors don’t have to wear terrible contact lenses that limit abilities to move and fight.

Now we can create something much more three-dimensional and interesting inside Mystique’s eyes. I was looking at some Mystique shots yesterday, and for the first time, for me, her eyes look really cool – real, and yet mutant.

Oh, that's cool.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like a character like Apocalypse fits so well in the 80s... In the same way that Shaw was perfect for the 60s.

Do you mind explaining why you think he fits in the 80's? Not arguing at all, just curious.

Is Kitty’s arc very different from the comic-book version [in the comic, she’s the one who travels back rather than Wolverine]. Well, yes and no. She has the power to ‘push’ consciousness and move someone. At the beginning of the film, she’s using it as an escape mechanism. She uses it to warn their group, the refugees, that they’re under attack. But then the challenge becomes: can they go deeper into the past?

I can see what you mean. Most of the best Apocalypse stories were from the eighties and his megalomaniac antics are suited to that time period. But I think as a character he has evolved from his original incarnation and if written well he could serve pretty well as a villain for the present timeline as well. One of my favourite TAS episodes is the beyond good and evil four part saga. In that story Apocalypse was like a man out of time and posed a threat to the x-men and mutants in all timelines. I'd love something like that on film.

But anyway, I understand your point and am willing to watch a well written Apocalypse tackle the X-Men in the eighties. I do love the OT though so it'll be hard to let them go but maybe Singer can wow me with his choice of casting for the younger x-men and how he writes them. Hopefully as better more developed characters then they were in the OT.

Maybe it's because he's a product of 80s comics, and I feel like a lot of what makes him who is is is reflective of that time. Haha.

There was something about the Hellfire Club, the swagger Shaw has, and the swinging nature of the Club itself that felt very 60s to me.

With Apocalypse, that whole WORLD DOMINATION and be-all-end-all destruction just reminds me of the 80s/early 90s. Even the look of the character, which hasn't changed all that much in almost 30 years, is so 80s.

Oh I agree.

BUT, I'm noticing we've gone back to the "OT characters are done" despite everyone involved constantly saying the contrary. What happened?

Yeah I don't get that, especially when Singer calls Apocalypse another "inbetweenquel". In between what exactly?

I know why i loved Comic-Con trailer :yay:

Have I seen Man Of Steel? Yeah. I liked it very much. I was so blown away by the world-building. The scope they targeted. And the way they re-told that story in a fresh and original way. I very often watch the trailer for it. In fact, I hired the guy who cut the trailer to cut my DOFP Comic-Con reel, because of the emotions it taps into.

Im glad he liked it, and hope the action and scope inspired him for upcoming X-Men movies.

XMen Dofp and Apocalypse need to be HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE spectacles.

I don't know if anyone else would like this but how about CvQS JGvsSW and BvsB also SvsM! they all fight then they all team up to stop Apocalypse! anyone agree?

That sounds wicked DshhhJJJJg!!! But, also very GHkPD :wow:

Seeing as how most of the pictures of young Xavier have him standing, are they planning on going back in time before Magneto paralyzes Xavier or is this something they'll try to explain another way?

It's already been said it's another way, hank creates something that will help him walk but at a price

Wait, so X-Factor 6 and Fall of the Mutants were better than Endgame, Rise of Apocalypse, X-Cutioner's Song and Age of Apocalypse in the 90s? I'll give you fall of the Mutants but he really rocked the 90s.

Come the 2000s, The Twelve and Blood of Apocalypse were more controversial and come the 2010s, he's just a kid now but Apocalypse Solution was pretty awesome.

When did I say any of that?

The movie takes place in the 80s and I think that's a good fit for Apocalypse is all I'm saying.

I am slightly concerned by his comment:

" It’s not a destruction fest or anything like that. There’s no cities being destroyed. Although there obviously is action in it. There’s no lack of action or scope. We’re just not egregious with it."

I know the film is going to have action but I dunno, it sounds like this isnt going to be the BIG spectacle we are hoping for and that they are waiting for apocalypse for that. And whilst that isnt a bad thing. DOFP is the perfect film to show big cities destroyed. I want to see the scope of the sentinels !

It can't be a big spectacle without destruction? Sorry, that seems like a fallacy to me. Thank goodness Vaughn and Singer know restraint and subtlety.

Singer is a fabulous director and I LOVE his X-Men but truth be told his action sequences can be very sloppy at times. The Wolverine vs. Deathstrike for example was so clumsy in its choreography and editing.

Just reminder angel can't be In Apocalypse Inless there Is sequenze set In more present.Time travel changes events It doesn't change when characters
were born. You have opotion of bringing In younger Nightcrawler.

I wonder if they might use 1980's historical events like missile defense program,Challenger explosion, and Iran-Contra.

It will probally be more an Introduction to Apocalypse than trying to do his story entirely In one film.

Magneto might even join APocalypse as horseman. In AoA his horseman were with him of his own free will.

After we see DOFP It will be easier to speculate on Apocalypse.

The Inbetweenequel comment to Apocalypse Is very telling. As JP said filmmakers behind X-Men has made it clear they want to use OT cast again.

I wonder how long till Singer is offically confirmed as director for Apocalypse:woot:

No no I completely agree it doesnt need to be a destruction fest to show spectacle but I dunno, how can you have so many mutants in the future fighting for survival and not touch on the mass destruction? if that makes sense haha

It could just be my narrow mindedness but I hope we do see decaying cities and the likes and not just one mutant going up against a sentinel alone each time (I know that is highly unlikely but we havent exactly seen Singer do more than one mutant against an enemy at one time)

I think in DOFP, the cities are already destroyed so it isn't like MOS for exemple .

It has been said the mutants have to work together to battle sentinles.

What some forget Is during production pics were released of actors Infront of green screen.

I could see Archangel fly through a time portal in the night sky and appear in ancient Egypt...or in the 80s. Maybe the Star Wars program can shoot him out of the sky.
