One year ago... :xmen:

Incidentally, was there anything worth reporting from that DOFP panel this year?

Nice pic from a year ago! DOFP turned out great and was a big success.

I had the same question. Were there any relevant X-Men news at Comic Con?

Also, how long does it take for users to be able to post "spoilers" anywhere? Until DVD release? or when?

I think we stopped using spoiler tags a few weeks after release. That seems to be the norm :)

Just noticed the cinema near me is showing Days of Future Past again next week for one day only :D

Round 3!

Am I the only one that feels that DOFP somewhat served as a "apology note" as well to the fans that have been screwed over the years from films like X3 and Origins?

I mean prior to this film coming out, some of the biggest and enduring complaints that I've seen people have (myself included) regarding the franchise was:

1. Killing off Scott, Jean, and Professor X.

2. No Actual Sentinels being present and just getting a big Giant Robot Head.

3. Storm not being used more effectively when it comes to her powers.

4. No "Ice Slides" or decent ice transformations by Bobby.

5. Professor X's characterization in "Last Stand"

6. Wolverine mostly being the one to get the best action scenes or being the "big hero" at the end of the film.

and I'm sure there were other complaints as well, but I really feel like this film tackled those issues, addressed them, and did its best to make up for them, which was ironically a big them for the characters themselves as well in the film.

Is dofp returning to USA theaters for 1 week starting this Friday?
My local theater has 2 showings in the evening.

It is. But it never left USA theaters. It's expanding for the holiday week.

Bryan Singer's sex abuse lawsuit in Hawaii has been dismissed without prejudice.

I think I remember reading someone having had the same idea as well before, but does anyone else feel that this story could have easily been a 2 part-film event as opposed to being just one?

There was apparently A LOT of back story that was established in regards to what took place after Professor X and Magneto picked up Wolverine from the airport to the time we saw the film start.

It would have been interesting, imho, to see on how the world went to hell and how the X-Men somewhat broke apart into different factions, let alone seeing some of the other older key characters die as well, with the end of the first part leading into DOFP.

Any thoughts?

Like I said, there could have been a bigger lead-in movie for this, like featuring the OT cast after the mid-credits scene of The Wolverine. So many things happened after X3/The Wolverine and even if you're just a casual viewer of the series, you can't help but ask why things are suddenly so different. But right now, there's no need to do that anymore because the Sentinel world in the future is already over.

Absolutely. It's my only gripe with DOFP, we're sort of thrown in and have to expand ourselves how the X-Men fell apart after X3, why Logan went to Japan after the optimistic ending anyway is still up for debate, and why after the cure incident everyone decided genocide was a good idea.

There's a great story there, especially with emotional beats of Charles returning. I wish they'd tell it, but it seems too late. The corporate machine pushed on I guess

Yeah, I do kind of feel that it's really a missed boat/opportunity for FOX and the fans.

Too bad they aren't more like Warner Bros/Time Warner and Disney in this regards (e.g. Hobbit and Pirate films)

We could have gotten some great stuff from the events that took place during the "war" that Logan has said that he has never seen the likes of in he entire time that he's been alive.

That film, part 1, would have been released this year, with the DOFP one (Part 2) being released next year. Plus, it would have given the future cast members a lot more to do.

For sure, it would have placated OT advocates too. Imagine a Part 1 where the world falls apart, but the reason is never explained, then in Part 2, we get DOFP, where Xavier realises the flashpoint and the film plays out as we saw. Would have been awesome

Did they ever show the start point where it all started in the comic? Or did they just skip ahead into the dark future like the movie did?

There are some fans who enjoyed X3 and Origins very much, me being one of them.

That was necessary because the existence of mutants were just recently made public in X1. The humans have no clue of how powerful or dangerous the mutants are until X3 with the whole Alcatraz incident. Jean's actions are what sparked the human government to activate the sentinel program which is why we finally got to see the sentinels in DOFP.

Bobby is still a student at the time. He doesn't have full mastery of his powers to do any ice slides or or turn himself into a walking ice statue.
5. Professor X's characterization in "Last Stand"
What's wrong with his characterization?

Well from what I've seen and come across, more people had issues with both the Last Stand and Origins, and considering the state that those two films left the franchise in before Firs Class arrived to revive it, I'd say that the cons seemingly outweigh the positives.

Also, I think what people were irked about was that we only got a small glimpse of a Sentinel in the Danger Room Sequence and how people had been wanting to see an real sentinel in one of the films back then...and considering on how most thought that we would never see the original cast return for another film again after X3....well you can imagine on how some were even more disappointed at the thought of never being able to see a real Sentinel portrayed properly on film.

As for Bobby, they even made it a point to have Bobby tell Logan that he wasn't a student anymore and he was being treated as a regular X-Men Member....so more people were hoping to see some of his trademark moves by X3. It wasn't unreasonable to hope for that back then.

As for Professor X's characterization...he was all about wanting to control Jean instead of allowing her to make her own choices...heck, look at how DOFP showed that Charles trying to control people, even if it's for the best intention, doesn't yield great results.

I thought Charles' characteristics in X3 match up with young Charles of FC and DOFP.
