DC: 1870; Sign-Up/OOC Thread

I've got my character, but now I have to think up some ideas with them...

So I'm thinking of making a Batman villain incredibly different than his origins...is that cool?

I'd say, if you're going to have it really different, then talk it over with MB and see what he's got planned with Batman.

MST3K is approved for Wondy.

And after 23 hours, MB is approved for Batman. I'm about to log off for the night and if someone applies for Batman with just an hour left, then **** 'em.

Character You Would Like to Play: Preacher Jonathan Crane/ Scarecrow

Basic Backstory and Powers of Character: Ever since he was a small boy Jonathan Crane was a god fearing person. His abusive person beat, ridiculed, and down right put the fear of god into him. For some time Crane was nothing more than a coward. The local kids tease him for his lanky figure and odd behavior and he was face with nearly daily beatings. The only solace he could find was in his books that he stole from the library. Books on chemistry, biology, and human physiology. Books on monsters and terrible things.

He could turned to them to find peace until he mother burned his books claiming they were the works of the Devil ant that God was going to punish him. He was locked inside an old shed to pray for forgiveness and was beaten for penance. It was on the sixth day that something awoke in Crane.

The locked shed door mysteriously opened and when Crane walked out crows were perched all over the shed, barn, and house. The next morning authorities would find two disturbing scenes. One the Crane family home razed to the ground and Jonathan shaking clenching a bible. The other was the Philips boy, the chief tormentor of Crane, strung up, with his throat cut, on a Scarecrow in the middle of their field. A slave was blamed and put to death while Crane would leave with an Aunt and Uncle who placed him through college where he excelled in literature, chemistry, and psychology receiving a doctorate in the later two. What was unusually was what happened after he graduated he became a preacher. He traveled all over the United States preached about the fear of the lord. He was thought to be killed many years ago by a group of natives.

What was more disturbing was the truth. Crane used his new found abilities of fear to build up a odd assortment of followers. He turned up alive in Gotham when his train of black horses rolled into town. People shudder when the black carriages of Jonathan Crane roll into town. He has been invited to Arkham Sanitarium to work as the religious figure and as a doctor. But something lurks deep inside of him. Criminal maybe or perhaps something worst.

"Mary, tell the Lord what have you done, your sin, your shame."
He was a tall man standing over the crying woman. He wide brim sun didn't let the sun touch either of them.

"I cheated on my husband."

"And you sir, what have you done?"

"Gamble and drank my money away!" A husband and wife coming for personal repentance.

"Sinners! The Lord knows my children, the Lord knows. He should strike you down right now. He has the power but there is a road to salvation! You must fear him. Fear his power. Fear him! I am his messenger and I've come to save you."
Crane took out his bible, the one from his home. He opened it up and took out a small pouch that was inside a small hole that was cut into the book.

"Embrace the fear. Let the Lord work. For he does not bring dreams but nightmares unless you bow before him, before his messenger. Breath in."
He threw the dust into both their faces.

"For he is an unjust God, one that demands your love and your devotion!" The people spasm on the ground. Flashes of the most terrible things flew through their eyes. Crane servants took their possessions and money.

"All is not forgiven. You must break your back for the lord. Fear him and die for him,"
with wave on his hand they were off. It was to time to cleanse the world with fear and he will reap the benefits. For he was doing his Lord's work. He was the god's weapon of fear and he was going to show the world

Unforgiven is my favorite western of all time, bar none. I think it's Eastwood's best movie in all the ones he's done.
Unforgiven does rock socks. Shares first place for best Western with High Noon.

Optikal is approved for Green Arrow.

We're going for second characters too, right?

APPLICATION FOR DC: 1870
Character:
Man of Steel (John Henry Irons)
Backstory: 1870. John Henry Irons is a steel driving man working on the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Railway. Easily the strongest of the men, he is quickly dubbed the 'Man of Steel', much to the scorn of his white co-workers and especially his white superiors. They scold and taunt him. But John Henry is a peaceful man and he ignores them.

All goes well for a while. Each day, John Henry goes home to a loving wife and a son and daughter. At work, a steam powered hammer is introduced. The taunting increases as the men dare John Henry to compete against the hammer. Again, he ignores them. They threaten to hurt his family. This, he can't ignore.

John Henry competes against the machine and be it skill, luck or pure strength, wins. His enemies are furious and accuse him of cheating. Considering themselves judge and jury, they condemn John Henry. They plan to be his executioner too. John Henry holds off almost a dozen men before he is finally struck down. A rope is tied around his neck and slung around a tree. They hang John Henry.

Fortunately, the murder attempt is unsuccesful. The rope is too long to actually suffocate the Man of Steel. Rather than die, he slips into a coma of sorts. When he awakens hours later, he is on the ground beside the tree. The rope couldn't hold John Henry's weight. The noose is still around his neck. In time, it will leave a scar.

Battered, bruised and broken, John Henry makes his way home. What he discovers there can only be described as horrific. His small house burned down, his wife and children hanging - dead - in the still smoldering wreckage. As the fire winds down in the ruins of the house, it is ignited in John Henry's heart. He buries his family and mourns them.

Then he takes up the hammer. Still in his steel driving clothes, he takes up the hood of the hangman. He hunts down the men responsible. Each is killed by the blow of the steel hammer. In the all encompassing fire that rages within John Henry's heart, no white man is spared. When he is done, fifteen men are dead.

Now, John Henry Irons is wanted. The authorities seek to bring him to justice - their justice. John Henry just wants to be left alone.

How he talks: This man of steel's speech is defined by Georgia.

John Henry was a railroad man
He worked from six 'till five

"Are you sure about this here description, Sheriff? Big, black and with a scar around his neck? Survived a hanging? Sounds like a tall tale to me."
"You best believe it, son. Fifteen deaths in Virgiana to his name."

The sheriff and his deputy stepped out onto the farm. The land was wide open and they could see for miles ahead. The sun was high so they pulled their hats a little lower. The deputy squinted as he watched the horizon. Only thing that even resembled a human was a scarecrow, just a few feet away from them. Like the two men, it had a cap tipped low over its face. There was a rope around its neck.

"You check the barn?"
"Every inch."
The sheriff raised an eyebrow.
"Well, I didn't check under no cow's legs, if that's what you're asking. This fella's supposed to be huge, right?" The deputy shifted his weight. "Let's be honest, sir, he ain't here. We could spend another three hours lookin', but I know for a fact that Shirley's already serving whiskey and her girls are going to be frisky. We could probably get a discount on the account of us not fining her."
The sheriff sighed and nodded.

An hour later, after the two have left, the scarecrow moves.

Hot damn, Harl. Nicely done.

Speaking of which, Watchman is approved for Scarecrow and Byrd is approved for Deathstroke.

Nice idea, indeed. Good way to mix the tall tale heroes and the DC heroes. Now, if someone will play Apache Chief like Paul Bunyan.

IC thread should go up this weekend.

Character You Would Like to Play: Ezekiel Van Savage

Basic Backstory and Powers of Character:
Harrison Van Savage was an adored man. And, being a railroad tycoon, one of the country's wealthiest. Along with Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Wayne, and Rockefeller, he helped build the nation's infrastructure and made many millions doing so. But Harrison always used his money to help his better man. Which is why, shortly after the birth of his son, the country mourned when he suddenly died while the family was living in Europe.

For years, the Savage empire was run from overseas by Harrison's wife until she too finally passed on, leaving everything to Ezekiel. It was then that Ezekiel came back home, one of the country's favorite son's returning just before it's darkest time. Ezekiel did his best to try and hold off war, but to no avail. With the end of the war, Ezekiel has done all he can to rebuild the nation's infrastructure and help it's newly impoverished citizens in both the North and South. He even allowed his party to nominate him for President, and only Grant's popularity as a wartime hero kept Ezekiel out of office. But that hasn't deterred him from doing all he can to make his beloved country whole again.

That is the public story.

Vandal Savage was born tens of thousands of years ago. Exposed to strange radiation from a fallen meteorite, Savage was accidentally granted immortality, as well as superhuman physical and mental accuity. Over the millennia, Savage developed his mind and body to beyond the peak of what normal humans can attain. His ultimate goal is to rule, for only he can keep humanity from destroying itself, and guide it under his iron control. Only he is worthy.

For Vandal Savage has ruled many civilizations under many times under many names. And when he hasn't ruled, he's had the ear of rulers. Other times, he remains quietly out of public sight, rebuilding his fortune and power until the next opportunity, pretending to die so he can pass his fortune on to himself, inheriting his own wealth through the decades.

And now, for the first time in history, technology has finally reached the point where it is possible for a single man to control and rule the entire planet. And he'll use all the power and wealth he's amassed in this new country to just that. And may those who get in his way find mercy in the afterlife, because they certainly shall receive none from Vandal Savage.

Sample Post: (Between three to five paragraphs with dialogue)

I'm wealthy, but not as wealthy as I've ever been.

"Sign here."

I'm powerful, but not as powerful as I've ever been.

"...and here."

I'm adored, but I've had whole civilizations fear me.

"...and lastly here."

Yet I find myself in the perfect position, possibly better than I ever have before.

"That's it, Mr. Van Savage. You are now the new legal owner of the Kord Mine in Pittsburgh. Although, I'm still not sure why you wanted an old gold mine. It never produced much gold, or silver for that matter. Mr. Kord was too willing to sell it to you. I get the impression he thought you were rather a fool."

"Oh, I have a feeling that there's a vein waiting in that mountain to be tapped. Some times you've got to take a chance. And someone needs to keep those poor people employed in these dark days." I know very well there's no more gold or silver on that site. And so did Kord. The geology isn't right. But there's iron. That's what the spies I sent to work for Kord told me. Millions and millions of tons of iron. Iron that Kord doesn't know about because I bribed his geologists to hide their findings. And if I'm to rise to power, I'll need to make this country great, and I'll need steel to do that. Steel for the railroads, and steel for the weapons.

"You're a saint, Mr. Van Savage," my lawyer says. "A real saint. And that's just what those people will call you. I'll get these papers filled immediately, sir."

"You're too kind," I say with my practiced smile.

I'll post a picture any time I damn well please!

...yes.

My first post gets eaten, then it gets doubled. Go figure.

You're a dirty damn thief, Harl! :cmad: Do something original, for God's sake.

FYI, my first arc with Deathstroke involves him going to a town called Big Whiskey and butting heads with the town's sheriff, a man named Little Bill.

Harl's approve for Steel, BTW.

And, **** it, Wieg is approved as Vandal Savage.

"Noone" has applied as Supes, as well as no one. If you apply, the only thing I ask is to keep his power level at decent level. No Pre-Crisis, planet moving time travel bull****

IC thread is up, and put up the roster on the first post.

Enjoy

The man stood up, putting his notebook under one arm and extending his hand. Jonah shook it, electing to stay sitting down until the carriage reached it's final destination.

"Well Mr. Hex, it's been a pleasure. I've never heard such an interesting account of Gettysburg,"

"And you Mr. Kent," Hex said as the reporter stepped out of the carriage "I'm sure we'll meet again some time soon,"
