DC Animated - Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

Ok after watching the 2-disc DVD, I moved down Public Enemies to # 2 on my list which previously was #1 best DC animated movie for me.
My new list:
1. Crisis on 2 Earths
2. Public Enemies
3. The New Frontier
4. First Flight
5. Wonder Woman
6. Doomsday
7. Gotham Knight
I feel that First Flight and Wonder Woman are better movies overall and should be at the top 3 BUT I just loved multiple heroes in a movie.
And yes I know Crisis on 2 Earths is not released yet, BUT I can just tell justl like with the rest of the FIRST LOOK that I would LOVE IT.

It would have been my number one as well, but I did not see Captain Marvel in the preview, so Public Enemies is OFFICIALLY my ALL TIME FAVORITE. t:

I was pretty disappointed in this one. Of course the voice acting was superb but the animation style was cheap/odd the script and dialog were not very good and the overall production was not on par with the other DC Animated efforts.

Green Lantern and Wonder Woman were far better films than this one IMO.
I did not “hate” it, just disappointed.

I saw they are doing a Justice League Animated Movie as well but the voice actors already are let down. To use anybody other than Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy for Superman and Batman is a mistake. Those guys bring so much to those roles.

to be honest, they were much "less buff" than the JLA universe. they were super cut, but not bigger, there were closer to normal size. (emphasis on closer).

the heroes in the JLA universe are MASSIVE, especially superman and batman

I loved this! And all the references to the first time they met (The Man of Steel #3) For example: The Magpie comment. Incredible continuity for remembering that issue!

I loved the super buff arms, shoulders and wash board abs. MAN!! Captain Marvel was Diesel. The voice actor for Captain Marvel was on point too. AWESOME,AWESOME,film.

I just watched this and I thought it was fantastic. The animation and character designs looked great and the story was solid (yeah, they were cuts, but mostly they were necessary. I was always very meh about that whole thing with Metallo and Bruce's parents murder. wtf was that?) and the voice acting was top notch. It was great to get Conroy, Daly and Brown back together again. It's just a shame that Joker played no part in the book, cause it would've been great to hear Hammill as Joker again. Great movie.

IMO, it goes:

1. The New Frontier
2. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (a very close second)
3. Batman: Gotham Knight
4. Superman: Doomsday

I still have get to see Green Lantern: First Flight csad or Wonder Woman. Crisis on 2 Earths looks badass.

I loved it! (Though it could have been a bit longer.)Cap vs Superman was great! ( But what was up with that yellow trim on Cap's uniform?) The best thing though, was the voice acting it was so great to have Conroy and Daly back. Nobody does it better!

I agree with everyone about the voice acting being top notch. Tim Daly has always been the best Superman voice, and Conroy, well....come on. I thought everyone else was great, and it's awesome to hear Clancy Brown back as Lex although he did voice Lex in a couple episodes of "The Batman" not too long ago.

I was really happy to see Ed McGuinness' style translated into animation. I've always been a fan of his over exaggerated characters, and it's cool to see the DCU actually make such a literal translation of his and Loeb's work into animation.

Overall I thought it was great. Really, really well done. Now bring on the Justice League animated movie next year. That looks awesome.

Guess I'm in the minority, I hated this film. Voice acting was nice, but that only carries the film so far. Far too many stupid things going on in this story, seemed like it was kiddy-fied way too much, and the running time didn't help.

Production values were....meh.

My least favorite effort out of DCU so far. They really need to amp up the quality of these movies. I don't understand the need for a 65 minute runtime limit. An extra 20 minutes or so could EASILY boost the narrative for all these DTVs.

I enjoyed the movie and having a lot of the original voices back was great; could have done without the weird artwork. Why not just have them look like JLU? For the big fans we can pretend it's part of that continuity, for those that are not big fans it won't matter since the story isn't tied to that history. Oh well.

One question though, during the fight with the heros, Superman started spinning around real fast and took Power Girl with him to the Daily Planet. How did Batman get there so fast? I think they goofed.

Can't wait for the next movie.

I was thinking the same thing.

We can only assume that Bats with his "disappearing trick when no one is looking" did that and Supes with his super speed picked him up off camera.

In the graphic novel, I think he teleported with Kitana to the daily planet via boom tube at that scene but I'm not sure.

Well he was implying that after the meteor eliminates most of humanity, it's up to them to pro-create. He's also almost insane at that point due to kryptonite steroids.

Here's my take on it. Overall, it was good. It had the usual problem of being too damn short and things seemed rushed. What I would give for one of these "movies" to hit the hour and a half or two hour mark. Otherwise, it was fine, nice little romp.

Watched this a couple of nights ago. I didn't care for it.

I thought the translation of McGuiness' designs from page to film did not work at all. I posted thoughts about my opinion on the designs a few pages back based off of what I was seeing in the previews. Unfortunately, the full movie wasn't any different. The designs were missing a certain roundness and the color pallete lacked any depth or richness. All the characters looked like they lost about 15 pounds of muscle between the comic and the movie. That might not have been a problem had they not drawn the characters so rigid and "cut" instead of massively muscled. It was quite distracting. Some of the CG was a little off looking as well.

I know there are some elements that were in the book that sort of had to be in the film, but honestly, I would have prefered DC went with another story. There were some elements that were just too out there to get over. I'm sure the way the script was written my have had something to do with it, as far as pacing and setting events up. But little Toyman jr. coming in at the last second with the Super-bat bot? "Toyman says there may be a chance he's still alive"?

I agree. Waller looked gross and the kiss scene was weird.

And if Lex was taking Kryptonite injections, why did he need the suit? To look cool? If he was always going to need the suit, then the injections were pointless. I would have prefered he didn't use it, as a bare knuckle brawl between Lex and Supes would have been a cool visual.

And if Lex had turned Superman into an outlaw, and hadn't told the public his true intentions, how'd he end up getting arrested? No one would have believed superman if he told them.

Eh, there were quite a few things that bothered me about this flick. Even with alot of them being things that were already in the comic, I wouldn't have minded some big changes made to the script, ala Superman Doomsday, for the sake of a better overall story.

I say 6/10, but even that feels somehow generous. My favorite part of the DVD was the preview for "Justice League: Crisis on 2 Earths", which looks FANTASTIC. I really think Lauren Montgomery has something special that she has brought to the films she has worked on, and Public Enemies was missing that in spades. I'm glad to hear she is back in the game with JLA: CO2E.

I have to agree with him. I let the plot slide since I wasn't expecting much anyway, but in regards of overall animation quality and design, it disappointed me. It's definitely behind the other DC DTVs.
