DC ELSEWORLDS: Reimagining Keaton Sequels & DC Films that Never Were

I'm not sure if he would have had a Robin in his Batman film.

I guess it would depend on the story he wanted to tell and whether or not he wanted Bruce to be the sole "hero" in his rookie days, or whether he wanted to play on the mentor/ father figure aspects of Bruce Wayne.

As far as an All Black costume goes, I could actually see Kubrick being down with the Ringwood like Black costume from 89.

I could also see Kubrick going for a 1939 style Batman costume to emphasize the more pulp origins of the character. Maybe it would depend on what period Kubrick was making the film.

Danny Lloyd was a great child actor, so I wouldn't have minded seeing him as Grayson.
If there was a Robin, he could have done it the Burton way. Both heroes wear thick black leather

It would probably be in a brightly colored room with the French tilt angle. :D
The interrogation would have a few Pow!, and Biffs! in it.:funny:.

Green Lantern (2001)
Directed by Richard Donner
An action flick with the style of 80s movies like Top Gun. Hal Jordan, a veteran Green Lantern, is forced into a war for survival against the brutal Manhunters. Created eons ago by a corrupt and fanatical Guardian named Krona, the Manhunters were meant to enforce peace across the universe. But they rebelled, forcing the Guardians to contain them.
Now, the alien warlord Mongul has broken them free from their cosmic prison and launching in a brutal war of conquest. Targeting other "peacekeepers", including a small band calling themselves the Star Sapphires. Hal teams up with his former teacher Thaal Sinestro, marine John Stewart, and Carol Ferris.

While Mongul escapes, the heroes prevail and the Manhunters are destroyed. Sinestro is disappointed in the Guardians' past failure nearly dooming the universe, and the deaths of many of his fellow Lanterns.
He strikes out on his own, telling Hal not to follow. While Hal is saddened by Sinestro's departure, he shares his old friend's frustrations. Carol Ferris harnesses the Star Sapphires' weapon, as it is part of a "spectrum" of light that powers the GL Corps. She and Hal fly off to further adventures as Green Lantern and Star Sapphire. In the post-credits, John Stewart is chosen by a Green Lantern ring, after having single-handedly held off a group of Manhunters to save innocents. Ganthet and the Guardians keep secret another of Krona's past experiments. A journey to an anti-matter dimension, and an encounter with a being called Mobius.

Green Lantern: Emerald Twilight (2003)
Directed by Kenneth Branagh
A war film / tragedy, as the Green Lantern Corps is brought to ruin. Opening on a mission to the Moon, Hal Jordan and now-Lantern John Stewart battle agents of Mongul. Disaster strikes as Mongul appears to bomb Coast City with a powerful weapon from a world named Qward. Hal and John's rings are seemingly unable to stop the bomb, which emits an eerie yellow energy, and Mongul leaves in triumph as Hal's home is destroyed, killing three million people. Stricken by grief and anger, Hal embarks on a one-man manhunt for Mongul. He tracks Mongul to his home planet and the arena Warworld. The Green Lantern slays the master of Warworld in a brutal fight to the death. Mongul taunts Hal with his final breaths, telling him he procured the weapons of Qward from an anti-matter dimension, where Sinestro now resides. The Guardians order Hal to turn over his ring. Hal instead demands he and his fellow Lanterns be allowed to find and interrogate Sinestro. The Guardians humor him, venturing to Sinestro's homeworld Korugar. The renegade Lantern greets them with a small army, his "Sinestro Corps". Sinestro declares he no longer serves the Guardians and tells Hal and his allies to leave.

The Green Lanterns are forced to retreat back to Oa. Hal, still traumatized by Coast City's destruction, is lured to the Oan Power Battery by a voice in his head. It tells him he cannot stop Sinestro as he is now. Desperate for justice and answers, he goes rogue and absorbs the power of the battery. Donning a suit of glowing armor he flies into space to meet Sinestro. John Stewart tries to stop him, but Hal forces him aside and warns him to stay out of his way. Ganthet of the Guardians realizes the danger of what's happened and tells John Stewart and Carol Ferris the truth of Qward. It was contained in a pocket dimension, where the native populace were enthralled by the yellow light energy of fear. Long ago they fought the Green Lantern Corps, fueled by willpower, and their master was revealed to be Parallax. The light entity of fear. The Guardians imprisoned the entity on Oa in their central power battery. John, alarmed that Hal is likely now infected by Parallax.

Out in space, Hal is becoming impatient. The voice in his head causes him to indulge in more violent actions, meant to bait Sinestro. Sure enough, Sinestro decides to come to Oa's system for a showdown. Hal slaughters most of Sinestro's forces before confronting his old mentor, who tries again to apologize for letting Mongul get ahold of Qwardian weapons. Hal threatens to exterminate his home as payback. When the Green Lanterns come to stop him, Hal turns on them too. Hal mutates into a more monstrous form as Parallax awakens, and all the Oan system is consumed by panic and anarchy as a destructive battle ensues.

John Stewart and Carol Ferris intervene, and though Hal overpowers them, his friend and spouse are able to snap him out of his fury. Parallax breaks free from Hal and lays waste to Oa, killing almost all the Green Lanterns, and all the Guardians save Ganthet. Hal is faced with a choice, to stop Parallax or keep fighting a now wounded and helpless Sinestro. Choosing to do the right thing, Hal flies back to Oa and reabsorbs Parallax through sheer will and whatever power he has left. Keeping the entity contained, Hal flies into the star of the solar system, where he is obliterated in a cataclysmic blast. The Green Lantern and Sinestro Corps are all but destroyed in the aftermath. Both groups' power has been burned out, with Parallax slumbering again in a new prison and the Oan battery gone. Sinestro is taken prisoner, shocked by what happened. Carol Ferris mourns her love and John goes back to the Marines.
In the post-credits, freelance artist Kyle Rayner is assisting in the search-and-rescue efforts of Coast City. The young man's extraordinary will and optimism is observed by a disguised Ganthet, who carries one faintly glowing power ring.

Green Lantern: Rebirth (2005)
Directed by Peter Jackson
A "Fellowship of the Ring" type epic in space. A prologue depicts Alan Scott, the first human Green Lantern, fighting a villain called Black Hand in the 1940s. The villain, who possesses the power to resurrect the dead, is vanquished by Scott and buried in a tomb far across space. In the present-day, agents who once served Black Hand find his grave and uncover his weapon. A broken black power ring, fueled by the entity of death Nekron. They conduct a ritual which repairs the ring, and the corpse of Black Hand is resurrected long enough to slaughter and revive them as "Black Lanterns". In the rebuilding of Coast City, Kyle Rayner reminisces near a memorial to Green Lantern. He crosses paths with John Stewart, currently allowed a vacation. The two hit it off, with Kyle professing how the Lanterns were his heroes. The two are surprised by a report of a strange anomaly approaching the solar system. John, still in contact with the JLA, knows several worlds out in space have gone dark. Without the Green Lantern Corps, much of the universe is at greater risk.

Then, a Black Lantern lands in Coast City and begins wreaking havoc. Kyle puts himself at risk to protect a small child and fight the Black Lantern. His moment of selfless, almost-suicidal bravery summons the Guardian Ganthet, who has watched over Kyle in disguise as his human neighbor. Kyle is bound to the last power ring, and ignites in green light to slay his enemy. Across the universe, the last few survivors of the Green Lantern Corps are signaled to their old rings lighting up again. They are not as strong as they were before, but they have enough power to fly to Earth. Kilowog, Tomar-Re and Ch'p reunite with John, meeting Kyle Rayner as well. Wanting to atone for his order's mistakes and the destruction of their Corps, Ganthet asks the team of Lanterns to train their new recruit, sensing in him tremendous power. They do so, with Kyle nervously taking up the mantle of Green Lantern.

The young man goes through rigorous training while his allies try to remaster their own powers as well. John becomes a close mentor figure to Kyle, as Hal was to him. When the time comes, their team readies to leave Earth and face the Black Lanterns. They meet not only Carol Ferris and her growing Star Sapphire team, but several others with powers reminiscent of Lantern light. Red (rage), orange (avarice), indigo (compassion), and blue (hope). They also reluctantly enlist the help of Sinestro. The alliance of light-wielding heroes engage in several battles against the Black Lanterns, leading to a final confrontation on the Black Lanterns' moon. Black Hand's possessed corpse is destroyed in battle by a coordinated attack led by John Stewart. Then Nekron constructs itself a new body; a body molded in the likeness of Hal Jordan to disorient and discourage the heroes.

Things look bleak, and all seems lost until Kyle reaches deep into his power ring, the last ring which contains the sum of the Green Lanterns' power. Ion, the entity of willpower, tells Kyle to summon the one thing that can overcome death; life. In a desperate gambit, Kyle obtains a ring from each color and calls on all the spectrum of emotion. In a moment of unbridled power, the "White Lantern" Kyle obliterates Nekron and his army. Kyle dissipates the White Lantern ring as it is, for now, no longer needed. The film ends with the shroud of death lifted from the emotional spectrum, the Green Lantern Corps rising in power again and new Lanterns of every color appearing across space. The alliance goes their separate ways, with even Sinestro returning to Korugar to amend for his past sins.

John, Kyle and Carol Ferris share a meal together outside Coast City. Kyle confides in them a secret, something he didn't tell the others. In his moment as the White Lantern, Kyle could hear Hal Jordan speaking to him from beyond the grave. Telling him his old slogan as a pilot. "Fight the good fight, and don't you dare give up." John hopes that Hal, wherever he is, is putting in a good word for them.

Jolie is a good Catwoman to Affleck

Affleck's a big guy anyway, so trying to fit him into a Nolan- Like Batman suit would be pretty hysterical .:funny:

And I agree that Bautista would be a great Bane. He also really wants the part , so it wouldn't be too much trouble to play it.:yay:.

The Batman (1992)
Directed by Sam Raimi
The film opens in a prologue with Batman attacking two thugs and delivering the famous "I'm Batman." Bruce Wayne has been Batman for several years now, as his suit and gadgets are advanced and refined with the help of Lucius Fox. Though he has remained a mysterious and largely unknown figure. After fighting the thugs, Batman stumbles upon none other than Jason Todd trying to steal the tires to the Batmobile. Batman helps Grayson to a foster home, later appearing as Bruce Wayne to adopt him.

The film then jumps ahead several months. Bruce Wayne and Jason host a party at Wayne Manor, where Vicki Vale takes a shine to the mysterious billionaire. Jason encourages Bruce to see her again, but Bruce is hesitant to let anyone close for fear of endangering them. The GCPD begin cracking down on the operations of Rupert Thorne, the paramount crime boss in Gotham after his predecessor Carmine Falcone was taken down by Batman. Commissioner James Gordon leads a raid of Axis Chemicals, hoping to gain evidence with which to take down the last major mobster in Gotham. As of this point, Gordon has collaborated with Batman in private but the CGPD is still largely hostile towards him. Thorne, desperate to ward off the police and Batman, contacts a mysterious and chaotic assassin known in the streets as "Joker".

As the raid on Axis commences, Batman and Jason (now Robin) arrive to help Gordon take in Thorne's men alive. But things are waylaid when the Joker shows up on scene. Joker and his henchmen, the Red Hood gang, kill many of Thorne's men as well as police, and Joker himself has a brief confrontation with Batman. The fight nearly causes Joker to fall to his death, but as Batman saves him Joker becomes fascinated with the vigilante. The gangsters are forced to escape, but half the evidence is burned and Gordon is unable to arrest Thorne immediately. District attorney Harvey Dent, determined to bring Thorne down, asks Gordon to establish a partnership with the mysterious Batman and Robin.

Joker and Thorne meet in person. The killer clown agrees to stay on as an enforcer, but only as a chance to combat Batman further. Joker begins to unleash chaos on the city, assassinating important figures and poisoning many with his "Smylex ", daring Batman to come after him. Along the way Vicki Vale investigates the Joker's rampages, learning several important patterns in his behavior. Joker learns about her, and quickly develops a stalker-like attachment. The villain faces off with Batman again at the art museum after holding Vicki hostage, explaining she "reminds me of someone I used to know".

After saving Vicki, Batman is able to use the information she gathered to figure out the pattern in Joker's killing spree, providing the police with what they need to stop it. Angered at Joker's schemes proving fruitless and the police closing in on him, Rupert Thorne tries to have Joker disposed of before trying to cut a deal with Gordon and Dent to escape the now mass-murderer, who is now wholly consumed with fighting Batman. Instead, Joker turns the tables and takes Gordon and Dent hostage, daring Batman to face him at Axis again. He emphasizes his point by having firebombs triggered across the city, and executes Thorne. At this point, Robin is convinced they should kill Joker before he can hurt anyone else. Batman vehemently disagrees, causing friction between them as Jason points out that if he had let Joker fall to his death none of this would have happened.

At Axis Chemicals, Dent and Gordon are tortured by Joker, who reveals he has had them both followed for some time. Prodding at their weaknesses and doubts for his own amusement, Joker tries to provoke Dent by bringing up his history of mental illness. Dent is enraged, nearly breaking free of his restraints to attack Joker.
Batman and Robin come onto the scene. As Robin deals with Joker's goons, Batman fights Joker one-on-one. Joker reveals he has hooked up Gordon and Dent to electric chairs, which are set on a timer. When the timer goes off they will be killed. He reveals the chairs are hooked to his heartbeat, saying the only way Batman can save his allies is to kill him.

After a brutal brawl in which Batman uses all his skills to overcome the Joker's unpredictable tools and his skills with a knife, he demands to know why Joker is so obsessed with him. Joker explains he was born in Axis. He cannot remember all the details, only that he was a small-time crook that fell into a vat of chemicals when pursued by a younger Batman. Reborn with bleached skin and green hair, Joker thanks Batman for a "fresh start" and tries to electrocute Batman with his electric joybuzzer. Batman and Joker are both nearly killed, but Robin saves and revives Batman in time for the police to show up. Wondering if what Joker said was true, Batman feels a deep guilt for having possibly created such a monster and allows doctors to resuscitate Joker, wanting to learn more about him and possibly rehabilitate him.

Back at Wayne Manor, Bruce explains his reasoning to Jason, who is skeptical and warns Bruce they may both regret this. Some time later Bruce meets Vicki for lunch. Having grown suspicious that he is Batman and watched him save the city, Vicki says they should be remain friends for the time being. Bruce also checks in on Harvey Dent, noting that while the district attorney is recovering well he is showing a harsher attitude towards dealing with criminals. Bruce decides to let it be for now, though makes a note to keep an eye on Dent.
Joker is taken into custody, placed in Arkham Asylum. There he meets several other criminals taking garish personas of their own in captivity. Assigned to evaluate him is Dr. Harleen Quinzel, whom Joker is quick to devote all his attention to, saying she "reminds him of someone..."Speaking publicly after recovering from their torture, Gordon and Dent announce that the GCPD will partner with Batman in fighting crime. They unveil the Bat-Signal, as their city's hero watches from the rooftops.

Superman: The Man of Tomorrow (1995)
Directed by Jonathan Frakes
The film chronicles the early days of Superman. Clark has already donned the cape, but has only been Superman for a couple years and most of the world still doesn't know what to make of him. He is dressed in an outfit much like the one in the New 52 Action Comics run. He's gotten his job at the Daily Planet figured out and is working alongside Lois. Flashbacks litter throughout, showing Clark's childhood and young adult life with the Kents. From the start, Jonathan Kent is the driving force in Clark's desire to be a hero. He has passed away by the time the film begins and Clark visits his grave at the beginning to question his place in the scheme of things. Lex Luthor and Intergang are the villains of the first half of the film, until it is revealed that he is in cahoots with the evil android Brainiac.

Paranoid and suspicious of Superman, Luthor studies him and believes him to be a threat. Brainiac plays on this fear, pretending to be a survivor of his destroyed homeworld Colu. Eventually he betrays Luthor, coming to Earth and trying to bottle Metropolis. It is revealed Brainiac conquered and assimilated his own planet after transforming himself into an advanced AI, and he tries to do the same to Earth. Superman confronts Brainiac but is overwhelmed by his powerful skullship. He retreats to his Fortress of Solitude, where the hologram of Jor-El grants him a Kryptonian suit emblazoned with the crest of the House of El. Both Jor-El and Lara encourage him to step up as the hero they know he can be. Letting loose with his powers for the first time, Superman takes the fight to Brainiac and boards his ship. He defeats the android, getting ahold of the bottled city of Kandor as well as freeing Metropolis.

His saving the planet and stopping Brainiac gets the attention of the whole world, and he is celebrated as a true hero. Having bonded in their time together, Clark and Lois start dating after she deduces that he is Superman. Clark visits Jonathan's grave again, affirming his place as Superman and promising to make his dad proud. Luthor goes into hiding after Brainiac is defeated, finding the android's map to an ancient tomb holding an unstoppable monster from ancient Krypton...

Aquaman (1995)
Directed James Cameron
The central arc revolves around Arthur Curry's relationship with his family (his mother and father, his brother Orm, and his beloved Mera) and the burden of being a king. Ultimately, the movie is akin to a Shakespearean tragedy. After getting a short prologue establishing Arthur Curry's origins as a half-human son of Queen Atlanna, a montage shows his early adventures and rising to power as the "Aquaman", defender of the seas. After coming of age, he is brought to Atlantis after the acting king Orvax dies under mysterious circumstances. He rules the seas peacefully, but has trouble keeping the other kingdoms in line. He and Mera are inseparable, working together and guided by Atlanna. Arthur is a courageous, selfless hero, if not arrogant.

Atlanna is a mentor to Arthur, who groomed him to be a leader with the interests of both land and sea in mind. Atlanna is more strict, traditional. While Thomas is more easygoing and open-minded. Learning from their example, Arthur has to learn to balance heroism and kingship. Moreover, Atlanna carries a terrible secret. Orm is a loyal brother to Arthur and a noble defender of Atlantis. Unfortunately, he still has a massive chip on his shoulder regarding the surface world passed down to him by his xenophobic father Orvax. Moreover, he is led to believe his father died fighting pirates from the surface. Orm is also fearful of recent events on the surface, what with alien invaders and costumed "superheroes" running amok. Arthur's inability to keep his brother in check, coupled with the manipulations of the film's true villain, turn Orm into a tragic and destructive figure who nearly brings the sea and land to open war.

After the opening of a foiled submarine heist, David Hyde is burning for revenge against the Aquaman for his father Jesse's death. Armed with advanced technology and a cache of Atlantean lore and history kept by his father, Hyde approaches the Atlantean royal family as an innocent seafaring "explorer" or "treasure hunter" who offers to lead them to the lost trident of King Atlan. Knowing possession of such an artifact will make his rule of the sea absolute, Arthur is tricked into going along with a hunt for the weapon. Hyde proceeds to feed Orm's ambitions and bitterness towards the surface. After the trident of Atlan is found, Hyde arranges an attack by his agents on the Atlantean royal family. In the chaos, Arthur loses his hand and he and Atlanna are taken hostage. Orm and Mera are led to think they are both dead. With Arthur and Atlanna as his prisoners, Hyde hunts down Thomas Curry and makes them watch as he murders the lighthouse keeper. Hyde's endgame is to watch Orm wreak havok on the surface world, leaving behind any number of treasures to be scavenged or stolen by men like him. Having lived out on the seas all his life, Hyde has little care for civilization and does not care if it falls.

Garth is an attendant and apprentice to Queen Mera, and acts as a voice of reason when Orm goes on the warpath. Garth pleads with his mistress to rein in Orm's more violent impulses, telling her it's what Arthur would want. He also tracks down Hyde and discovers the captive Arthur and Atlanna, saving their lives. Hyde is repelled, fleeing to obtain an advanced suit he crafted from Atlantean technology. Atlanna, upon having learned who David Hyde/Black Manta really is, reveals the truth behind Arthur's rise to the throne. King Orvax, publicly a hero and bold defender of the sea, was in secret a xenophobic and abusive monster who mistreated Atlanna for years. Upon learning she had sired a bastard half-human son in her younger years, a jealous Orvax threatened to murder both him and his father Thomas. Moreover, he himself had searched for Atlan's trident with the help of a human pirate: Jesse Hyde, David's father. To rescue her family and stop a genocidal war on the surface, Atlanna fought and killed Orvax, blaming it on a pirate attack. Arthur understands if the war is to be stopped, his brother has to know the truth even if it shatters his faith in his mother.

Orm's march leads him to the shore, where the US military meets him in force. Having taken the ancient military title of Ocean Master, Orm leads a destructive battle against the human forces until Arthur and Atlanna appear to stop him. Arthur orders his brother to stand down and call off the attack, telling him that Black Manta was behind it all. But before Orm can know the truth behind everything, Hyde appears clad in his advanced suit and fatally wounds him with a harpoon. Christening himself the Black Manta, after his father's old insignia, Hyde tries to seize Atlan's trident out of Orm's hands, but a still-injured Arthur stops him and takes the trident himself. Strapping a harpoon to his dismembered arm, Arthur battles the murderous pirate one-on-one.

Aquaman and Black Manta, driven by anger and revenge, engage in a fierce duel as the land and sea do battle around them. Aquaman eventually gains the upper hand, smashing Manta's helmet and scarring his face. Manta remains defiant and tries to go on fighting, leading Aquaman to summon a bolt of lightning with his trident and blast Manta into the depths of the sea, apparently killing him and ending their feud. Atlanna is able to stop the battle with Mera and Garth's help, but it is too late to save Orm. Arthur tries to comfort his brother, choosing not to tell him the truth about Orvax and letting Orm die with his faith in their family intact. All-out war with the surface is stopped, but with human society now terrified of Atlantis the kingdom is forced to withdraw even deeper into the sea.

With his father and brother dead and his kingdom scorned by the world, Arthur is a broken man. He steps down from the throne and goes into exile, blaming both Atlanna and himself; Atlanna for keeping the truth of his kingship from her children for years, and himself for pursuing an old relic for the sake of power instead of relying on what he already had. Arthur names Mera ruler of Atlantis in his stead, leaving her the ancient trident and sailing off to protect the land and sea as a man, not as a king. In a post-credits sequence, we see Black Manta is still alive, albeit scarred and lost at sea.

Sorry but I don't think Affleck would have suited the role so early.
He was a very limited and wooden actor. He was known for that back then.
People used to make fun of him.

Aronofsky would be doing an interesting film though. Very psychological

Wonder Woman (1996)
Directed by Martin Campbell
In 1996, Diana of Themyscira is being anointed as the Amazons' ambassador for peace as they ready to announce their presence to the human world. Years ago, Diana took up the mantle of the Amazons' champion in turning the tide of World War II against a secret Nazi cabal in the service of Ares, the god of war. Diana has since retired her arms and is ready to act as a diplomat to humanity in the wake of the rise of metahumans. But her mission is waylaid when Air Force pilot Steve Trevor crashes on the island Themyscira. Taken to Queen Hippolyta, he tells the Amazons that he is tasked with the fabled "Philosopher's Stone", a powerful artifact capable of warping reality. The stone was recovered from a dig in the former Soviet republic of Pokolistan. Pokolistan is rising as a rogue state and threatens to reignite tensions between the East and West in the wake of the Cold War.

With her mother's permission, Diana volunteers to help Steve take the stone to a secure facility run by the organization A.R.G.U.S. Donning her old armor, Diana gets ready to leave with Steve but they are ambushed by Pokolistani troopers backed up by a monstrous chimera. In a brief but intense battle, Diana and the Amazons fight off the attack. Suspecting that Ares has returned, Diana travels with Steve to Washington DC. On the way she recounts the tale of the Old Gods. After thousands of years of rule, the rise of human civilization saw the gods divided between those who wished to nurture and guide humanity and those who sought to dominate or destroy them. Ares looked down on humans as base savages unworthy of inheriting Earth from the gods. Rallying several of the gods to his cause, he was challenged by his sister Athena and the ensuing war saw the Olympians wiped out. The war god was driven into exile, but the final battle saw Zeus and Athena give their in the process. Zeus's final gift was an island on which the Amazons would live, secluded from the world until humanity was in need of help again.

Diana says that at the end of World War II she found Ares, but only barely survived after the conflict restored a good deal of his godly power. Though he is in hiding again, the mounting tensions in Europe may give him the chance to ascend to full godhood once more and conquer humanity at last. At Washington Diana meets Etta Candy, Steve's friend in the army, and General Wade Eiling. Eiling is distrusting of Diana as a foreign metahuman (and implied to be a bit of a misogynist), and wishes to take control of Steve's mission. Diana refuses, recognizing Eiling as a warmonger who would use the stone rather than keep it out of dangerous hands. Tensions rise until Amanda Waller of A.R.G.U.S. overrides them all and provides Steve and Diana with transport to her organization's base in the Atlantic. But Steve and Diana are intercepted by Ares's disciples, led by, to her shock, her old friend Artemis. Exiled from the Amazons for having refused to aid in stopping World War II out of contempt for "man's world", Artemis has been corrupted by Ares. Diana is wounded in the fight but Steve helps her drive off the fallen Amazon, but not before the stone is lost.

Waller reprimands Steve for letting the stone go. In the ensuing debate it is revealed she and the other leaders of the US government intend not to contain the artifact but study and use it for their own ends. Diana is furious, calling Waller and her followers hypocrites and refusing to turn it over to them. Waller orders Steve to bring the artifact to A.R.G.U.S. by any means necessary, even if it means betraying Diana. En route to Pokolistan Artemis communicates mentally with Ares, who is possessing the Pokolistani president, as well as influencing Wade Eiling himself into taking aggressive actions internationally in pursuit of the stone. With the stone in his possession, the true ruler of Pokolistan will start a war which will draw in the Eastern and Western superpowers and eventually ignite World War III. Ares orders Artemis to kill Diana, and despite her ill feelings towards humanity Artemis still has some affection for her old friend. Steve and Diana track Artemis down to an island off the coast of Pokolistan, with the help of archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva. On the boat Diana speaks about Artemis, confessing that it was in fact her that banished her "sister". It is implied that they may have had feelings for each other, but Steve does not pry further. He tells Diana about his orders to bring the stone back, admitting the world has changed very little since Diana last saved it.

On the island, the stone is presented to Ares, who begins to feed of its power. Taking his full godly form, Ares outright possesses Wade Eiling and the Pokolistani government, causing a battle to break out on the sea. Steve takes the Lasso of Truth, flying to Eiling's ship to bind him with the Lasso and free him from Ares's control. Diana faces off against the God of War, but Ares instead sets Artemis against her old comrade in a fight to the death. After a short exchange, Diana throws away her sword and says she will not fight Artemis. The exiled Amazon beats her sister bloody, but Diana still refuses to fight back, apologizing for banishing her. Surprised at the gesture, Artemis falters and cannot bring herself to kill Diana. A furious Ares stabs Artemis, and though Diana leaps in to hold him off she is overpowered by the god. Before Ares can deliver the final blow, however, Steve makes it to Eiling and binds him in the Lasso of Truth, freeing him from Ares's control. At the same time, Etta Candy hijacks the lead Pokolistani gunship and keeps them from firing on the American fleet. Ares is significantly weakened by the ceasefire, and Diana is able to wrench the Philosopher's Stone from him.

Taking up Artemis's sword Diana bests Ares in an intense duel, demanding he surrender. Ares refuses, and when he moves to seize the stone one last time Diana beheads him. In the aftermath of the battle, Diana examines the Philosopher's Stone and heals Artemis with its reality-warping powers. Steve calls her, telling her Waller's team is on its way. He tells her no matter what she chooses, he is with her. Pondering over the stone, Diana decides to destroy it with her sword. The stone releases a strange burst of energy, vanishing into another plane of existence. Waller is incensed at learning the stone is gone, but is unable to do anything as the citizens of Pokolistan and America celebrate the end of the brewing war. Diana allows Artemis to be taken into federal custody, but warns the authorities that she is still Amazon and must come to no harm. Artemis parts with Diana peacefully, having accepted her apology. Diana tells Steve she has to go back to Themyscira and prepare for the coming scrutiny of the larger world. She catches a news report on her activities in stopping the war. Old reels from World War II and footage from the present begin to circulate, and Steve tells her the world is calling her "the Wonder Woman".

Though she thinks it silly, Diana is nevertheless touched by the term. She says goodbye to Steve, promising to stay in touch. Steve says he will hold her to that promise, stealing a kiss on the cheek before "Wonder Woman" flies back home. In a post-credits sequence, Waller and the research scientists at A.R.G.U.S. examine the now powerless remains of the Philosopher's Stone. Referencing the more mysterious name Worlogog, Waller says the knowledge of the "Fourth World" was almost within their grasp. Waller vows to keep searching before it is shown A.R.G.U.S. has Wonder Woman under surveillance, along with Superman, Batman and other costumed heroes...
