Director of Shazam ! also announced the title of the sequel at DC Fandome, it's Shazam ! Fury of the Gods.

Is it safe to say (or to early yet) that there is 'restored' faith in DC/WB yet ? For me, I need clarification on Henry and Superman's future plans to be absolutely reassured but it is clear we are in a far healthier place than we were in the immediate post JL cinematic position of 2017.
We’re definitely in a much better place now. There is a lot of confidence about Reeves’ Batman, and hope at least for these multiverse concepts. With Keaton, BatFleck and Battinson, there should be at least one Batman for everyone lol. Most of us are still waiting/hoping for some good news on Supes, but WW is in safe hands. We’re getting a bunch of new interesting projects. I want to hear more about a GL series and Amazons soon too.

Despite 2020 being a real cluster, as fans , we live in good times in terms of Cb tv, film, games etc.

One of the big debate at WB, and in Fandom, post TDKR, was whether to make separate unconnected standalone superhero films or to have a shared cinematic universe.

It was always been framed as a binary choice, without considering the possibility of doing both.

Now , you can have your shared universe films, while at the same time, letting unconnected films like Matt Reeves The Batman, and Todd Phillips Joker, be filmmaker driven masterpieces.

It allows filmmakers like Reeves and Phillips, to have the creative freedom to tell their own visions and stories if they want, and to allow films like Flash, WW84, Shazam, and Aquaman stay part of a connected universe. .

All that's not even counting the tv and streaming shows which are entities to themselves in expanding the DC world.

I know there are fans who don't like the idea of a multiverse and who insist on things either being one way or another way, but I actually think the "cake and eat it too" option is the best option for WB.

It gives the general audience a wide variety of DC films that they can plug into. The audience will accept the films if they're good. Its a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

Wonder if The success of DC FanDome will effect other conventions like SDCC, in terms of showing footage online for various films.

Definitely wasn’t expecting the trailer for The Batman to come online!!!!!

They kind of didnt have a choice lol. But WB has been pretty early nowadays with releasing promotional material for their DC movies.

The most recent episode of The Fanboy Garage podcast has an interesting discussion about DC Fandome's effect on other conventions like SDCC.

This x1000. Its time to stop competing with Marvel. Endgame solidified that they won the shared cinematic universe game, period, and thats totally fine, let them have that. DC has SO much going for it by cutting loose on this multiverse concept. This ensures that each film we get is truly going to be its own beast with no homogeneity. And thats not a dig at Marvel but by nature of a shared universe there has to be similarities in tone and execution.

I love that The Batman looks like a David Fincher film meets Daredevil. I love that The Suicide Squad is gonna be James Gunn cutting loose with no restrictions. I love that WW ‘84 looks like a bright colorful 80s romp. I love that Zack Snyder gets to go full Snyder on the snyder cut. Let these guys just do their thing and not have to worry about what someone else is doing. And if an approach doesnt work then it doesnt spoil a larger broth, you just move on and try a different take.

Not to **** on the parade or anything but other than the trailers, which were going to do good numbers one way or another, what metric is being used to call this a success? It seems to be the only true way to know will be in an actual convention setting.

People are talking about the DC films , hype and excitement is being generated, free PR and press, there's a positive buzz around DC films ,and geeks seem to be almost universally satisfied with what they've seen, which is a rarity in fandom.

That's a success , and I doubt WB is complaining about the results.

Yeah, this method gets my approval for sure. It can be the best of all worlds if DC handle it correctly.

All the buzz is around the trailers, though, and not necessarily around the panels themselves. If they just released the trailers on YouTube, I’m sure they would get similar amount of views.

True but isnt that normally the big thing everyone talks about coming out of actual cons anyway? The footage is always the main course of these events.

I feel like it was different this time around. The majority of the panels were a snooze fest IMO. I didn’t feel the “announcements” were as big as they made them out to be in the advertisements. I hope this was a one time thing and DC returns to SDCC for their big movies. Or if they go solo, they go back to the live format with fans in person, post COVID.

Pretty much agreed while I did enjoy the panels for the Flash, the Suicide Squad & Black Adam a lot of the other panels were boring. The Snyder Cut one was awful but at least I loved the trailer. It was getting on for 2am here when Matt Reeves was talking so I can’t fairly judge that one though haha.

They certainly didn’t live up to the promoted BIGGEST announcements, those were a major let down. It almost makes me wonder if somethings didn’t pan out for it.

DC Fandome day 2 on Sep 12th just feels like it’s gonna be an after thought aswell. You can watch any panel you want at any time which is better but I feel like it’s cause they don’t seem these ones as important as Day 1. They really could have swapped some stuff around aswell given sone of the crap throwaway panels we got Day 1.

They will be delighted but it doesn’t mean that it was perfect, there is a lot they can do to make the experience bigger and better next year. Hopefully they fix the mistakes of Fandome 1 for Fandome 2, if that happens next year.
