DC is shooting themselves in the foot....

is this the usual DC is bad for not doing the same way sa Marvel talk?

Nah, I couldn't care less about them copying Marvel (which I don't think they should do). Again, I just feel like they should push 'pause' on all the different TV shows, especially considering none of them will have anything to do with the movies.

No one (or not me at least) is saying they need to take Marvel's approach, I just think they shouldn't work so slowly. It took until 2014 for WB to really get serious about whatever direction they're heading in with the DCCU.

Of course I want these movies to be great & I want them to happen, I just don't see why we couldn't get a movie before 2016. But yet and still there are more and more plans emerging for new TV shows.

They're not working slowly anymore though. Sure they don't have any movies for 2015, but starting in 2016, we'll be getting 2 movies a year until 2020 (for now). 3 movies for two of those years with the Superman and Batman solo movies that have not been dated yet. Of course that depends on how well the first movies do, but still. I think up until 2017 (BVS, SS, WW and JL 1) everything will get made. After that? We'll see.

As for the movies having characters that have already appeared in a TV show. I don't think the general audience will care. At least not enough that it matters. Besides... Who else is there besides The Flash and part of the Suicide Squad?

Jesus Christ. The television and film markets are completely different they appeal to different fan bases. What Warner Brothers television produces doesn't affect the resources of what Warner Brothers films produces.

The only thing they have in common outside of sharing the same parent company is pretty much nothing at all. In other words DC producing TV shows with WB television does not affect the amount of feature films or the resources and time allocated for the feature films that they produce with WB pictures at all.

If DC Entertainment stops making television productions with Warner Brothers television it doesn't mean all of a sudden we're going to get more DC Entertainment feature films from WB pictures. That just means that DC Entertainment will have one less platform to use to expose their IPs to the general public.

Which would just be an extremely stupid move considering how competitive and relevant a platform television is to the general audience today. not just that but also considering how ignorant most of the general public is about DC Entertainment IP's outside of Batman and Superman.

This type of exposure it exactly what they needed. All of a sudden you have people actually caring about green arrow and the flash. When nobody outside of websites like this and even a lot of members on sites like this didn't give a damn about those characters 3 years ago

Well, sequels/follow ups are usually released every two or three years, the DCCU started with MOS (2013), so is just the usual pace. Marvel Studios started the MCU with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk in 2008, then Iron Man 2 in 2010, etc.

In the meantime, we have plenty of shows to entertain ourselves with. And thank goodness WB is keeping both universes separate, we're getting a much better Suicide Squad in the movies than Arrow's version, and you don't want Gotham to ruin the DCCU with its silliness, the BvS flashbacks to Bruce's past will fit the film's tone better.

it's good decision for them to separate the movie and tv universe, gives them creative freedom without worrying how one will affect the other. also it still doesn't mean WB is not open for the idea of a shared movie/tv universe in the future, in the meantime they want them separate.

As a DC fan, time to weigh in.

Respect your opinion OP, but disagree.

IMO DC is killing it on TV. Agents of Shield has nothing on Flash, Arrow and Gotham. Who wants to watch a show about a bunch of supporting characters no one's ever heard of, compared to a show about real A-list Superheroes.
(now true, that could be said of Guardians of the Galaxy too, but I think that's an exception to the rule because GOTG was awesome).
IMO Agents of Shield is a bit like instead of making a show about the Avengers, making a show about the people who do the Avenger's tech support and dry cleaning.

The DC shows are just so much more watchable.

I saw the A of S finale, yawn ! The mid-season finales for Flash, Gotham and Arrow were fantastic, any one of them was more exciting and enjoyable.

I mean Gotham has actually made the Penguin a credibly menacing and interesting villain - which is a pretty big task, as he's generally the joke of Batman's rogues gallery - on that note Captain Cold ! Another somewhat lame villain but done really well in the TV show !

Sure, Constantine's not great, but the other shows are fan-tastic.

Sorry Marvel fans, that's just my opinion. If you enjoy the adventures
of Phil and a bunch of no-names, up against real class-A bad guys
like .....Calvin Szabo (Mr Hyde), well that's totally cool. I'm not being
dismissive here, if you really enjoy that, more power to you - I just
don't see Whedon's usual magic rubbing of on A of S (and I LOVED
Firefly !). It's not a bad show, I just don't find it exciting.

Although having said that, I did like A of S's take on the Absorbing Man (a great Marvel villain, who didn't get the best treatment in Ang Lee's Hulk, nice to see Crusher Creel making an appearance at last).

So, in short maybe DC/WB have realised that for the next little while its films
are struggling against Marvel, and aren't betting the farm on Batman v Superman - instead they're getting saturation by absolutely dominating the TV airwaves with really enjoyable shows. Well, that's how it looks to me, and I don't see that as them shooting themselves in the foot.
Of course, I don't have the numbers to back that up, it's just an impression.

Cheers.

I think that Constantine is better than all other DC (and Marvel) shows shown so far !

They just bad mouth every single little detail.

They?

And no, it's just called having a differing opinion. Has absolutely nothing to do with bad mouthing because as far as I know nobody in this thread has done so.

of the new crop of superhero/comic TV shows, i personally think Constantine is the best one right now

Constantine, Arrow and Flash are fantastic. I'm hoping Constantine gets renewed.

Uh, Krypto the Superdpg episodes were not canon on any other DC projects. People know Smallville's Oliver Queen and Arrow's Ollie aren't the same guy. Hive the audience some credit. They won't be confused by JLA Flash and CW's.:

Exactly, majority wont. Though there will be the casual fan who is, plenty of my friends ask me why Smallville Oliver and Arrow Oliver are different, but it doesnt stop from enjoying anything.

DC would benefit from one strong brand. They are really missing the boat. Guardians of the Galaxy would not have been the success it was if it wasn't connected to Avengers and the same can be said with probably all of the solo films.

If WB were smart they could have used Gotham as Ben Affleck's Batman's back story. All it takes it a little cohesion. Just link all the universe and you get fans of each film and show wanting to expand their understanding of the universe. It worked a treat in comics for years when DC had good editorial staff and Marvel are nailing it with their cinematic universe.

Batman is a box office juggernaut he, does not need a Gotham (TV Seriee) to help in anyway. The thing that is going to sell Batman v Superman is the fact that the two heroes will be on the same screen together for the first time ever in live action. The DCU on film will only go stronger from this point on. Marvel's way is not the only way to do it.

Na, I'm good on that. Keep them separate.

i don't understand this entire fascination with wanting DC to copy Marvel. just because Agents of Shield and Agent Carter is connected to the Marvel films, why the hell does DC have to do the same with their films (Man of Steel, BvS, etc.) and their shows (Gotham, Arrow, Flash, Constantine, etc.)?

let DC/WB do their own thing. personally, i like it that shows like Arrow and the Flash will be in no way connected to the DC films. the quality is vastly different and you can't compare central characters like the Flash and Green Arrow to second rate characters found on Agents of Shield and Agent Carter

It's not about copying Marvel. It's about keeping things coherent for an audience under a large umbrella of people interested in these properties. It just makes more sense to not confuse audiences or undermine work being done on each iteration of the characters.

Agents of shield is a exciting show and great show.
It's Just as enjoyable or more enjoyable and exciting or more exciting compared to DC shows.
It's connection to movies and the coming netflix shows and peggy carter is one of the factors for me as well.

SHIELD got much better halfway through Season 1 and especially with the Winter Soldier crossover. Everyone who stopped watching it is missing out, big time.

Marvel has set up Agents of SHIELD to be a launching pad for anything they want to introduce. By the time InHumans comes out in 2018 everyone will be nice and familiar with the entire concept, and the movie can just jump right into telling a story without explaining what InHumans are. Well played Marvel. Bring on Blade and the Vampires next! =D

It's actually pretty clever, in my opinion: AoS is a way to fill in MCU story that they don't have time to deal with in the movies, since they have to focus on only the main plot points and big-scale action. For example, in Captain America 2 we learned that Hydra infiltrated SHIELD, which then fell apart, but the movie only scratched the surface of that storyline. The show was able to develop it further and tell us a lot more about Hydra. Now AoS is launching Inhumans and (most likely) giving them backstory and background to free up the movie from having to do that; this way, they can jump straight into the good stuff in 2018. I love how they're using AoS to explore the corners of this universe that won't get enough development on the big screen.
