DC is shooting themselves in the foot....

Na, I'm good on that. Keep them separate.

Just imagine this same argument/discussion but on the issue of the dc animated films and shows. Connecting something like Young Justice to the films(literally).

I mean there was a way of producing this fiction before, one that came with it's own benefits but more and more people would forgo that in favor of this new approach. The new hotness if you will.

. I won't lie and say that keeping the shows and movies separate does leave for some missed opportunities. It would have been awesome to see the events trickle down in to Arrow and Flash. I think it would made the shows that more exciting to watch. However it doesn't make or break the shows.

I both Marvel and DC have done some awesome things with there shows. I love that Shield has tied in with the movies. Think that was such a brilliant idea. At the same time tie Flash and Arrow together was also brilliant as well. I would love to see them take Brandon Routh and spin off and do The Atom. Just like I'd love to see them also spin off and do Firestorm.

So the DC fan in me would love for everything to be connected but at the same time I'm not upset that they aren't. They are doing a wonderful job with the shows and that is all that matters. I think Gotham, Constantine, Flash, Arrow have all been awesome shows that I look forward to watch every single week. So I am in no way disappointed in that WB is keeping the shows separate from the DC films. Yes it would been nice but that's okay that there not.

^ CW could make a TV movie using all the DC characters they have got.

A 90 minute TV movie (or maybe even a limited theatrical release) starring Arrow, Flash, Black Canary, ATOM, Rs's, Reverse Flash.

They could even get other characters like upcoming Supergirl and Teen Titans, all in a self contained continuity.

Agents of shield is a exciting show and great show.
It's Just as enjoyable or more enjoyable and exciting or more exciting compared to DC shows.
It's connection to movies and the coming netflix shows and peggy carter is one of the factors for me as well.

I think they're taking that show in a very interesting direction now that there's an actual superhero with A-team potential in Daisy Johnson on the show. I'm also very interested in seeing how the show will affect the films.

As far as DC tv shows and films being connected, it would have been a major cause of problems given that the film universe is only just recently gaining a definite direction. They would have had to build the film universe based on what they had already established in Arrow or Flash otherwise they would have caused some serious retcons to be in order. With them being separate, there's no clean up work to be done. It's much less of a headache for the film and tv sides. I think this only works with Agents of Shield and the Netflix shows because those were conceived from the get go as branches of the film universe.

glad they keep separate

Agents of Shield didn't really pick up til season 2.

If Agents of Shield had aired on any other network like NBC or Fox, it would have been canceled after season One.

Am I the only one who sees a problem with all the TV shows DC is trying to get started?

Don't get me wrong, I love good superhero TV shows but they're trying to establish all of these shows and are moving literally as slow as possible with their cinematic universe.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say they need to follow Marvel's approach or put out movies just because...but they've only released one movie (last year) and it'll be over a year before another surfaces.

In the end, I think it's going to hurt them that they're doing all of these TV shows (which aren't even connected to the movie universe). It just seems like a big risk of over-saturation when you're doing TV shows & movies on the same characters.

How is seeing them on the big screen going to be special when I can just wait until the newest episode airs?

Marvel is more at the risk of over-saturation with all the movies they´ve been making for the past years.

There is no evidence that what you are saying is true. 10 years ago, we had Superman Returns and Smallville (two different interpretations of Clark Kent/Superman in two different universes and on two different mediums -- and that is not including Justice League Unlimited) and it really didn't hurt the brand (the lawsuit filed by the Siegle estate probably did more damage). Now, with that being said, I do believe that there is such a thing as over exposure of a brand, and that is not happening with the shows that DC has been producing right now. By the time a Flash movie actually releases the TV show should produce the same amount of brand awareness to the character as Smallville did to Superman.

True that. It was a slow burner that took it's time before it got proper good.

No the ratings that AoS got the first season would still be Fox or NBC higher rated shows... Hell there is a 100% chance Gotham will get renewed with the ratings its getting, and I don't think its match AoS where they were after 10 or so episodes.

In the first season AoS averaged around 2.2 ratings (not counting DVR as for Gotham we are not counting DVR numbers either), which compared to what Gotham is getting (a round 2.5) is not bad but that impressive.

Look this is not a knock WB but you do realize that Disney isn't just making comic book movies. They are taking comic books and translating them in to film and Television. They are basically creating comic books through TV and Movies.

I suspect that with in 5 years they will have access to almost every Marvel character in one way or another. I think both Fox and Sony will crawl in to bed with Disney once they realize how much money there is to be had. This will open so many different possibilities for Disney that they don't currently have.

Now maybe Disney appeal will fizzle out or maybe it will get stronger and be more appealing. The brilliance behind what Disney is doing is opening up Marvel comic books and exposing people to Marvel Universe in way they never have before. They found a new way to bring comic books to people.

Now in terms of WB is doing. It's to early to predict how well WB will do with DC. They are just getting started. I only know that they have to find their own path. I hope that the films are great and we get another comic book universe that people of all ages and walks of life will enjoy. Right now only time will tell.

You´re assuming the general audience will never lose interest in it, wich is a big assumption, considering that every single movie genre that has risen to the top has also fallen. The more movies they make, the faster they will generate over-saturation. You can only go so far with this type of movie until people understand they´re seeing the same movie over and over again.

This is what I really want to happen with the DC shows and movies.

I have only watched a little of Gotham and Constantine and have enjoyed what I've seen and definitely plan on checking out Arrow and The Flash soon. Especially The Flash.

But Marvel Studios has beaten DC/WB to the punch in creating a shared universe very reminiscent of their comic book universe. Marvel Studios to me really is bringing their characters to life with minor alterations here and there, I feel like I'm watching a live-action comic book when seeing a Marvel Studios film.

Although I say Marvel has beaten DC/WB to the punch I think there is a big opportunity Marvel hasn't done and might not do for a long time, that DC/WB could do and hopefully strike a homerun. What I would love to see DC/WB do is a mutilverse event or film. Establish the different contuinties between shows and films as a multiverse, the DCCM or DC Cinematic Multiverse. Perhaps do some form of Crisis film?

That's what I want. A Crisis film establishing ALL the DC shows and movies are loosely connected, it may sound similar to Marvel's TV shows being in the MCU but it's different as shows like Gotham and Constantine are separate, Flash and Arrow, are separate, and the films are separate from all those.

Perhaps even go one step further with a Crisis film and establish past shows and events as the multiverse as well, this is fanboy mode. Bring back Tom Welling, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh for a Crisis film. Maybe even bring back Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, and Christian Bale (although those three seem like something that would never happen). Etc etc on other shows and films. Maybe even through Tim Daly, Kevin Conroy, Clancy Brown, and Mark Hamill in there! A one or two or three time event film bigger than the Avengers.

It's something that seems could NEVER happen, however I never thought a shared superhero universe like the MCU could of been possible either. I think if DC/WB could do this down the line and have it successful, it would be a bigger dream come true than the MCU.

How a DC Crisis On Infinite Earths movie might just work

I agree, DC needs to continue to do what made them great and that's great dope animated movie and cutting edge animated shows.

They need to scrap the live action trash and go back to doing young justice while also continuing animated JLA, and also rebooting BTAS and lifting that stupid Bat Embargo so they can go to back to being great.

I mean really a show about batman without batman. Such a joke
