DC's Definitive Joker origin

I rather not they establish a solid origin for Joker. I prefer Moore's "multiple choice" possibility.

BatmanTAS and Batman comics are two different things. Jack Napier in the cartoon doesn't mean jack.

I understood that the name "Jack Napier" was from Tim Burton's Batman, the 1989 movie, not the cartoon.

^^it did come from burton. in the cartoon, it was just a little homage to burton.....though, as stated before, in the cartoon it was just an alias.

Oh i see. I just assumed since this thread has been open so long it was out. In that case, Does anyone plan on getting it?

I don't know if I'll get this or not. I may wait and get the new Joker mini-series by Brian Azzarello coming out in the summer.

Last time Azzraello wrote Batman, he gave us a steaming pile of crap he named Broken City...so I think I'll be passing on that one unless the art is spectacular.

^^i for one thought broken city was incredible. but even if you didnt like that one, you cant deny the amazingness he gave us with batman/deathblow: after the fire...all neatly packaged with some stellar bermejo art.

never read it...I read Broken City, and I gave For Tomorrow a shot when he did that with Jim Lee in Superman, and I hated both of them with a passion. He turned both Batman and Superman into whiney little b**ches who dont really do anything. And why couldn't Batman, the worlds greatest detective, solve the murder of one common hood? And how the f**k did the Joker know about any of it when he was in Arkham? And why would he care??? And the whole twist with the kid being the killer of his own parents was great the frist time I read it, in Hush, which happened right before Broken City...

I too didn't enjoy Broken City and For Tomorrow that much. Even with Jim Lee on the latter.

Well, it's an unofficial "sequel" to the excellent "Lex Luthor: Man of Steel", produced by the Azzarello/Bermejo dream team. I'll definitely be giving it a look.

well i suggest you try reading batman/deathblow: after the fire. its very different from the books you just mentioned. very down to earth, raw, and drity...batman is a total bad ass. any batman fan would be hard pressed to not enjoy the book...its a real hidden gem. and you can get it pretty cheap off amazon.

if Bermejo is doing the art, I'll buy it :o

I'm still with leaving Joker's origin being that of Moore's "multiple choice".

I'm not so sure about this. I always considered TKJ the best way to define the Joker's origin; a complete mystery.

Anyone notice that's Harley he's talking to in the bar?

Wow. If I was considering getting this before, assuming this cover is some of what we'll be seeing, I'm going to skip this for sure. That's probably one of the uglier covers I've seen in a while.

BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #8
Written by Michael Green
Art and cover by Denys Cowan & John Floyd
Part 2 of a 6-part Joker tale written by Michael Green (TV’s Heroes)! Batman crosses paths once again with the punk who will become his deadliest foe — The Joker — in a Gotham City that seems to be increasingly more deadly and psychotic.
On sale August 8 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US
To be honest I think it is a pretty sweet cover except for the distortion of his face

I read it...the art is...unbalanced...some panels have great composition, and look almost dynamic, until you look at the details, which are all off...the writing is decent, although I've never liked the idea of Joker being a career criminal before his turn, although the way they're doing it is interesting. Having him be so good at what he does that he's just incredibly bored with it, until he sees Batman. I'm wondering if they're gonna have him become the Red Hood after being inspired by Batman, then get tossed into the chemicals at the end of the arc...it would all mesh up to the timeline it's in (42 weeks after he's first started, putting it near the end of Year 1, where Joker first shows up)...all in all, I'd give it a 6 out of 10, it would have been a 7 if the art was more consistent...
