DCU Dark

How come your not digging Demon Knights at the moment Crimson

I'm not digging the tone of the book. It feels like a very generic, depthless action/adventure Hollywood summer film. I don't find it very fun to begin with. It's not the kind of book I wanted out those characters, especially Etrigan. Plus, between this book and what they're seemingly doing with her in Justice League Dark, I really hate how they've handled Madame Xanadu. I'd cancel Demon Knights, creatively incorporate it into the Stormwatch title and give Etrigan his own series written by someone who can pull off his rhyming. Hell, give it to Matt Wagner to write and draw. His mini-series from 1987 was awesome.

:csad:

Awwwww I've really been enjoying it and the way the characters are written. Sorry your not digging it at the moment CrimsinMist

On it's own terms, it's good. It's just not what I was looking for. I wanted something large and epic and a bit more serious instead of this semi-comical, witty action/adventure story.

Hopefully Etrigan pops up in Swamp Thing and Justice League Dark though. One wonders if Snyder and Milligan can pull off his rhyming(because an Etrigan who doesn't rhyme outside of Jack Kirby is no Etrigan at all :cmad:)

You never know the scale of the story might become more epic as it goes along :)

But i agree Etrigan ought to be rhyming. It just doesnt feel right to see him talking normally

Demon Knights is certainly better than Cornell's other DC outing, Stormwatch. That's not really saying much at all, but at least it's there. It has some of the same problems, but to a lesser degree and it's not the same disaster, likely in part to the generic fantasy feel.

That said, I hope it goes somewhere. If it stays generic fantasy, I can read a better generic fantasy in IDW's Dungeons & Dragons. I'd still buy Demon Knights for the pretty art, though.

I've been really enjoying Stormwatch so far I think Cornell has been doing a pretty great job on it

The only thing I'm not keen on is how J'onn is being written

You might have to explain that one to me. "Pretty great job," I mean.

In the two issues I read, the only characters I had a concept of were J'onn, Apollo, and Midnighter, and that's because of context I projected upon them from outside the confines of the issues, based on what I knew of them prior. None of what I projected onto them is necessarily applicable in the new universe, but there's nothing much to go on within the issues as written. Add to it that I knew almost nothing about the rest of the cast, other than that at least three of them are more "mwahaha posturing" than Mark Waid's silly "mwahaha posturing" villain creation for Irredeemable and yeah - not an effective way to write a debut issue, much less its follow up.

Any number of other #1s and #2s were more effective and better written.

I didn't even bother with Stormwatch. Cornell has written some decent stuff, but I don't really care that much about seeing these character integrated into the DCU. I liked the older Wildstorm stuff, but I kind of feel like their time is over and don't really fit all that much anyway.

I enjoy Demon Knights tremendously but yes its crap that Etrigan doesn't rhyme most of the time. His personality seems a little off too. I still dig the title overall though.

I like that he doesn't rhyme all the time. Also, he just looks badass with that armor. I'm really liking Cornell's take on Etrigan and Vandal Savage so far.

I liked this weeks issue of Demon Knights though that ending :wow:

That poor girl :csad:

Demon Knights this week is also good. And I agree on the ending!

This comic has made me love Vandal Savage.

Also Etrigan grapping that monks face...shudders.

An interview with Cornell about Demon Knights and it's future plans.

He confirms that there have been hints to a Swamp Thing appearance. When the hell did this happen exactly?

An interesting look at how long each opening arc on these titles is going to last. And it shows, for now at least, DC is putting its money where its mouth is in its statement that creators aren't going to be beholden to trade-friendly 6 issue arcs, and the collected editions will instead be worked around the story they want to tell.

The cover for Demon Knights #5 by Mike Choi

I must say his art is a lot more clear than the current cover artist. Daniel's I think his name is. #3 especially just seemed a bit busy.

Poor Father Theod

And the last thing he did was still forgive Etrigan :(

And I loved Vandal Savage here too. He's such an over the top ham :woot:

The cover for Demon Knights #5 by Mike Choi

I must say his art is a lot more clear than the current cover artist. Daniel's I think his name is. #3 especially just seemed a bit busy.
That might be because Mike Choi is about 100x a better artist and comics artist than is Tony Daniel.

I soured on Choi a little when he made Thor look like a teenage girl in Astonishing Thor.

To be fair, when Thor was first created....he was a very pretty man. :o

But still visibly a man. Kirby gave him that manly, butt-cleft chin and everything.

Not really. That little curl thingy, I mean, all he needed was some fake boobs and Nubsy wouldn't kick him out of his bed.

I love any title that can feature one of its protagonists enthusiastically eating a dinosaur.
