DCU Dark

Frankly, Marvel's got the best approach to this: Announce two art teams upfront and have them alternate. Each team gets the time they need to do their best work and the readers don't have any surprise fill-ins thrust upon them. I mean, Random Artist #41 popping up in a solicitation when you expected Butch Guice or whoever does kind of suck (although I firmly believe it's still better than the comic getting off-schedule). But Steve Epting subbing for Butch Guice after the publisher's come right out and told people that's what would happen? Perfectly acceptable.

DC is doing that as well with Swamp Thing supposed to alternate between Yanick Paquette and Francesco Francavilla, Batwoman alternating between J.H. Williams III and Amy Reeder.

It's not DC's fault that the artists don't understand deadlines and didn't think that DC was serious in their threats about lateness. As a matter in fact, I applaud DC for this because so far it has gotten artists like David Finch, J.H. Williams III, and Jim Lee to push themselves to get their books out on time. And while in the short run we are seeing artist changes like in Swamp Thing, Mister Terrific, and whatnot, perhaps it will push more artists to actually put their work out on time. Because continually late books, pisses me off even more and it was very embarrassing for DC to have multiple late books particularly Batman, Inc., Batman: The Dark Knight, the Flash, and Superman.

The lack of new Dark titles this week is perhaps linked to why this week's New 52 lineup felt a little lacking.

Justice League Dark out next week though Keyser so that ought to be pretty darn good

Cannot wait to get that next Wednesday :hrt:

Does DC Universe Presents not count? It features Deadman, who's also going to be in Justice League Dark.

I suppose that could kinda count.

One niggly question about Deadman, that I was hoping this issue would answer, but it didn't. Deadman supposedly takes over bodies to help people through difficult situations. But if he's controlling them, and they have no memory of him being in their body once he's gone, how exactly is he helping? I mean, if they can't remember the big epiphany/solving of a major problem that he lead them to?

Deadman was rather meh for me. Never read the character before and this didn't make me want to read about him again to be honest.

I took advantage of the 20% discount afforded to attendees of my comic shop's book group to get a bunch of Dark-related graphic novels:

Madame Xanadu: Disenchanted by Matt Wagner and Amy Reeder Hadley
Hellblazer: Fear & Loathing by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon
Hellblazer: Scab by Peter Milligan and Guiseppe Camuncoli
Roots of the Swamp Thing by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson

A little stack of presents to myself for my birthday tomorrow. Can't wait to get stuck into these!

Those are some great graphic novels Keyser I really hope that your going to love them

Matt Wagner's Madame Xanadu is one of my most favourite Vertigo series

That said, rather than having Reeder draw entire issues, I much rather would've had them just have JH draw all of the Batwoman scenes, and Reeder draw all of the out-of-costume scenes.

I'll be buying it for sure

Absolutely love the cast for this book and Milligan is usually pretty great apart from Red Lanterns

I dig Reeder's art so I'm okay with her drawing whole issues. Her style is different from Williams but I still really like it

I'm pretty keen to see how she draws Kate in costume

Super excited. DC's magic-side of things has always been awesome. JLA Black Baptism for instance from years ago...Gooooooood stuff.

And all the magic titles from DC since the relaunch have been really good so I've got a good feeling about this series

I started reading Shadowpact--the Willingham series after IC--and I wish I was as expansive on my DC reading as I am now because I would've gotten it sooner. I'm liking it so far. Don't know why people were telling me it was good/ok but not great. I think it's been great so far. Guess I'm just a bigger fan of magic.

Really hope you dig the series when it starts tomorrow  The first arc looks pretty amazing with the team taking on the Enchantress

Going to love seeing all these characters together. Though Zatanna without fishnets is just wrong

I'm curious as to how Dave Stewart will color Reeder's artwork. I hope he goes with the same "painted in costume/normal colors not in costume" style he did for Williams.

But yea, Justice League Dark. That preview was pretty awesome. It was pretty disturbing, too. Great artwork. I'm looking forward to seeing how all the Dark titles come together. They all seem to be connected somehow.

I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out tomorrow

Ironically Justice league Dark and International both seem more fun to me than the main Justice League title

Instead she has like fishnet...arm gloves or something.

They look neat on her but she just doesnt look right in pants without her top hat

Some of the art on the preview bugged me to be honest. But I'm stuck between thinking if its the penciler or the colorist that bugs me.

Uh... was Madame Xanadu always a drug-addled jerk like she is in this series? This is twice now that I've tried a comic largely based on Xanadu's presence only to find her totally unrecognizable. :csad:

I, VAMPIRE was pretty good. Quick read, but mainly characterization is established. It's not an action book. Atleast not yet anyway. Artwork was hit or miss. It reminds me of Tim Bradstreet's PUNISHERMAX covers. So alot of the character actions are stiff. Otherwise, it's a nice looking book. Worth checking out.

JL D was good. Wonder how they are going to explain how she has lived for so long.

She didnt seem to jerky to me but her being a junkie did make me go 'Huh.'

Seeing visions of future horrors must be pretty awful but doing drugs to cope with it isnt the way Xanadu. You're going to make Mr T cry :csad:
