DCU Dark

I know, Dagnino's good. But he's not Albuquerque. I've been jonesing for more Albuquerque since he left Blue Beetle, but he's stuck to comics I wasn't particularly interested in reading.

Lemire taking over on JLD? Great news, now maybe the story will actually go somewhere.

So I finally checked out I, Vampire #1. Dropped. Now I'm worried about the upcoming crossover. Feels like I've been here many times before with DC...

Also finally checked out Stormwatch, which is surprisingly cool and fun so far. Something about the previews really turned me off, but I like this one. The characterization and dialogue are great. Martian Manhunter is in definitely in good hands, which is great. Plus, the artwork is amazing.

I'm loving Stormwatch so far and I absolutely cannot wait to see how Milligan writes the comic book :atp:

Sad to see him go since his art define the creepy tone of the book so much. Hope all goes well with future endeavors for him.

That said, Steve Pugh on art duties is a very good thing.

Those quotes from Foreman are quite interesting and I wish him the best. I can see how working on the comic would be difficult. That said I think his art has been a bit of a mixed bag from time to time. There's a few panels where the proportions, even in every day scenes, have been pretty dreadful.

Yanick Paquette continues to be awesome.

While I firmly believe that Anton Arcane is the villain Snyder is bringing back, the monster of that cover looks very similar to the vampire monster that Swamp Thing fought in Saga of the Swamp Thing #38, "Still Waters".

Similar, I actually have a weird feeling that this is Abby transformed into the avatar of the Rot, the anti swamp thing. I'm likely wrong however.

You might be right as the creature is pretty slender looking. Almost looks female. I guess we'll find out.

I think Anton Arcane is gonna be the eventual big bad too. Pretty much as soon as they mentioned that the whole Arcane's family quasi-magical powers came from the Rot, I figured Anton's resurrection as the Rot's true avatar would be the endgame for that whole plot thread.

They've got to get Anton to put in an appearance at some point for sure :)

Having a Swamp Thing series with no Anton Arcane would be like the Turtles without the Shredder. Or Optimus Prime without Megatron

Swamp Thing finally shows up; those who held off could finally buy the book now :woot:

Loved the tree branch "angel" wings. Great symbolism and just overall good writing from Snyder and artistic storytelling in this ish. It's so good to have Paquette back.

Pretty much what's happening once you read this week's book. But yeah I definitely don't see Anton Arcane NOT being involved. It would be like writing a Batman series without The Joker or The Flash comic book series without Captain Cold. Since the days of Len Wein himself that has been the arch nemesis of Holland/Swamp Thing.

The solicits for June are up. Francesco Francavilla is handling art duties for issue 10, which also sees the return of Uncle Anton. I really hope Francavilla is onboard for that arc up until the Animal Man crossover before Paquette takes over again. And hopefully, Snyder rotates the two afterwards as well. Paquette has that great Biseette/Totleben feel while Francavilla has that more Berni Wrightson-ish vibe. Should be awesome.

I'm glad I stuck with Swamp Thing. It's been beautiful, tremendous, frightening, fantastical, reverent of the canon, and a few other good Swampy things.

Mixed feelings about Pugh on Animal Man. After the high contrast cleanliness Foreman used to define the relaunch, Pugh's sketchiness throws me off. It's not bad. But it makes me feel like I jumped into a Marvelman story between pages.
