DCU Dark

Finally got a hold Swamp Thing 11. It was a solid issue but would have been so much better if Paquette had been on hand to do the art work. I am not a fan of Marco Rudy on this book as his work tends to be either cluttered or blobby and vague (like when the artwork switches to Rudy's a few issues ago showing Seeth collapsing, very dissappointing) I am not a fan of the way he draws Arcane.

Also disappointing is the fact that after finally getting to the cross over next month, September is all issue 0's.

New issue of Justice League Dark tomorrow I'mma be checking that out

I dug Lemire's first issue i think he might be a good choice for this series :)

Lemire is perfect for this series I'd say. This book is finally what I hoped it would be when announced a year ago. DCU's Magic scene stuff was always stellar back in the day and Lemire is taking advantage of that. And I love the nudges to House of Mystery and House of Secrets that nudges to so much old school and recent Vertigo and recent pre-New 52 stuff. He's handling Vertigo-stuff really well meshing it into the New 52 magic-side.

What's interesting is that one of the few criticisms I've seen thrown Lemires way is how decompressed his storytelling can be but then on JLD he's the one that has finally gotten a story going.

My Rotworld optimism dropped a bit at the end of the two-parter. Days of Future Past has already been done, over and over again.

I'm kinda...not really caring about swamp thing/animal man anymore tbqh

I'm not really caring for it either. And after this week's issues, I'm dropping them. 11 issues of build up for...another 2 issues of build up. Not exactly sure what I was expecting, but I didn't like what I got.

Anyone else disappointed that Snyder really hasn't explored Swamp Thing's power level? He's supposed to be way more powerful than the Moore version, yet the only things he can do are grow wings and control plant life. Why do I have a feeling that his abilities will be revealed only as plot conveniences?

My Rotworld optimism dropped a bit at the end of the two-parter.

It might have helped if they didn't announce that the books were crossing over around issue 3 when they won't actually cross until like 12.

Because all the OTHER crossovers announced in that month literally happened in the next month or two just about. But this crossover hasn't truly been one yet.

I haven't read 12 yet but I definitely agree that Swamp Things current power level/abilities need to be explored more.

He's supposed to be more powerful than the all-veggie variety, but 80s swampthing could regrow himself at will essentially teleporting, inhabiting redwoods, and growing multiples of himself to kick batman's ass.

I've gotten no sings that the current Swamp thing can top that. I mean it may have to do with Alec Hollands own skills and personality but the old swamp thing was bordering on being a green Dr. Manhattan.

Yeah, I've realized I've stopped caring as well. Issue #11 for both series were also coincidentally a nice little jumping off point, so I'm done.

The current Felix Faust arc in Justice League Dark has been pretty neat so far

I've always dug Faust and its nice to see him as a major villain again and I like how Lemire writes the team so far

Anyone else disappointed that Snyder really hasn't explored Swamp Thing's power level?

I am. Snyder's Swamp Thing feels marketed towards the crowd that thinks an intellectual, all-powerful Swamp Thing isn't exciting enough.

I'll wait until October, when the next Rotworld issues are out, to decide if I'm in or out. The tension Swamp Thing started with is gone by now, and Animal Man doesn't seem too far off.

I think I'm going to wait for the trade of Rotworld

I'm just not that into this crossover right now

Did anyone else buy Demon Knights this week it was a really good issue. I be digging this arc so much right now

I wonder if
Etrigan has really betrayed the team or if he's faking it?

Finally got around to reading Animal Man and Swamp Thing this month.

Ugh.

Two very weak issues, particularly Animal Man 12. A year of buildup and the crossover finally begins with....a recap of that 12 month buildup.

Both of these series have wasted very solid starts and a lot of good will.

Abby continues to be fairly useless, is she or isn't she the avatar of the rot? This whole thing just seems like it'd be more interesting if they were facing down the "Black Queen" that was built up for so long and quickly done away with, rather than Anton Arcane. What happenned to Abby's brother? He was interesting.

Maxine is suddenly sidelined.

On another note, where the hell is Yanick Paquette. Marco Rudy just aint doing it for me in the art department. He's also pretty terrible at drawing arcane.

After so much time, this cross-over is leaving me unmoved.

On a complete opposite series trajectory, Demon Knights and Justice League Dark have found their footing the past few months and are now consistently enjoyable and exciting. I hope they can keep it up.

I'm really excited to see what happens in the new justice league dark this month

I wonder what's so significant about Constantine's tatoo that Faust was freaking out over it

Swamp thing and JLD both have annuals coming out on Halloween!

JLD's is the finale of the current story arc, well played.

As great as Paquettes cover art is, I really wish he would do more of the internal art as well. This issue is being done by Becky Cloonan.

Cover for Swamp Thing 13. A meetup I've always wondered about. Plus, I'm always down for more Dead Man in Swamp Thing.

Side note, is anyone else planning on picking up the new Phantom Stranger series?

I approve of Ivy's new outfit I definitely prefer it to the green and black body suit

I'll be picking up the Phantom Stranger series. DCU Magic stuff is typically gold and so far with Lemire on JLD that is even more true. I just don't know how I can feel about him being supposably Judas. My religion and comics have never clashed before. Not saying it REALLY is but I feel like in this situation...it should?

I loved when Rucka made Vendal Savage Cain from Murdering His Brother fame. :o

I think that 'Judas' by Lady Gaga should play before and after he appears

If I was a mystical entity I would want my own theme music :o

I loved when Rucka made Vendal Savage Cain from Murdering His Brother fame. :o

But see that is fine. Especially because he isn't heroic (say for Demon Knights) but bottom line is, Judas did THE DEED. I don't have to elaborate.

So Paul Cornell has hinted that Scandal Savage might show up in Demon Knights

If my favourite kick ass lesbian anti hero joins the cast I'mma be a happy lady

She needs to have her own dragon and a harem of hawt maidens

I have decided this :ninja:

Crazy giraffe gods and a lovable family sum up why I loved Lemire's early Animal Man. I'll keep reading so long as he remembers this.

Snyder's tried too hard to make Anton the ultimate mastermind, and now Swamp Thing's history is confusing. This is where I drop off.
