DCU Dark

Swamp Thing 16 cover. Swampy in the Batcave. Is that Manbat behind him?

That's what I keep thinking. Am I gonna be totally lost if I pick up just Swamp Thing or should I pick up some other titles as well?

That and Animal Man are having an event. But you can just read all of Swamp Thing if you want. The only Animal Man issue I think would be important is #12, but that series is just as good as Swamp Thing.

Yea I just picked up Swamp Thing issues 12-14 and the annual and I really dig this. I wish I could've picked up more but I didn't have the money. From what I gather, the green is like all plant life and Alec is an avatar of it correct? Then the red I'm guessing is animal life and Buddy is the avatar of it? Sorry, Animal Man is probably one of the characters I'm least familiar with. I've always kind of dismissed him but now I'm really interested.

Pretty much. The Red was introduced to Animal Man with the New 52, but his previous series is great too.

Cool cool. I may have to pick up a few issues of Animal Man then. I definitely find the whole red and green thing interesting I just am not really acquainted with any of the characters at all. I'm good at extrapolating and deducing information enough to where I can just jump in almost anywhere though. Honestly I wasn't expecting to dig this so much but I really do. Starting to get the feeling I needa pick up some Justice League Dark or Demon Knights now or something. What all titles are considered part of DCU Dark anyways?

Ray Fawkes will be co-writing Justice League Dark due to Lemire's commitments to Green Arrow and Animal Man. Frankenstein will be a permanent member of Justice League Dark and John Constantine will still play an integral role despite him getting a new solo book.

Hmm... I didn't like Frankenstein much in the last book. And I'm only really reading because of Constantine...

I read JLD mostly for Constantine. Swamp Thing, Animal Man and Justice Legue Dark are my favourite DC reboot titles by far

I will probably pick up Constantine solo title as well.

I loves Frankenstein so him being in Justice League Dark gets a  from me

I've always been curious about Frankenstein but not enough to pay for a book of his. Therefore, him joining JLD is great news :)

I like this whole rotating cast thing. It's working well for me.

I be digging it as well so far

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the next arc will be like

I recommend checking out Frankenstein's series in trade too its neat :)

Eh, I deal very little with trades. I only own 5. ICONIC and ICONIC II (because I write for those... well, II, but I couldn't not have I), and The Stuff of Legend vols 1-3 (check the avatar!).

I had the first volume of Mouse Guard but eventually sold it. I figure I'll eventually buy the Earth X trilogy in paperback, but I just haven't got around to it. I'm not sure why but I just don't care to own ongoings in tpb. I'd rather just eventually buy the issues as I come accross them.

Example: I found Stormwatch 1 and 2 at the flea market last weekend. I was stoked, though I realized after buying them that they were in pretty crappy shape. So they're just temporary copies, but you get the idea. FYI... they were good

It's definitely the same sort of concept

That's fair enough then

Glad you're enjoying the back issues of Stormwatch that you're reading so far really happy that you're digging that book

I'm looking forward to the Apollo and Midnighter story in the Valentines Day special too :)

Ok well, I picked up the last 3 issues or Animal Man last night because this whole Rot World story has sucked me in. I must admit that I've always though of Animal Man as kind of a joke similar to the way Aquaman is generally viewed and made fun of by the general public but I must say, I am totally eating my words on this one. I'm really digging what I'm reading so far. Looking forward to seeing where all this is going most definitely

For the record Buddy isn't the Avatar of the Red, his daughter is. He was given his powers in order to act as a protector until she's ready to take on the mantle.

Yea I realized that lol. I made that comment after only reading the last few issues of Swamp Thing.

The comic store by my apartment was having a huge sale yesterday and I was able to get the Swamp Thing and Animal Man New 52 trades so I'm really looking forward to checking them out. I never would have thought of Animal Man being such a gory, twisted book but I really dig it.

Btw, apparently is cancelling Hellblazer after issue 300 and giving Constantine his own new 52 title.

So in Demon Knights last week it was confirmed that Exoristos is a lesbian and the Shining Knight is lesbian/bisexual and identifies as both male and female

I am so happy to have two more fab lgbt characters in the DCU and I'm really hoping that they get together as Exoristos has a thing for the Shining Knight :hrt:

Having them be a lesbian couple in the series will make me VERY happy

I dropped my DC monthlies shortly after Blackest Night, and I'm just starting to jump back in. I'm limiting myself to 3 DC books, and I'm really interested in the "Dark" line. Justice League Dark's lineup interests me and I liked reading JLD #0. Do you think Justice League Dark is worth reading monthly, or do you have any other recommendations for a DC team book? As of right now, I have Justice League Dark, Wonder Woman, and Batman in my pull.

I think Justice League Dark is a fantastic monthly buy. That and Batman are my two favorite DC books right now (heck, two of my favorite books period). I don't read Wonder Woman so I can't say anything about it but I seem to hear a lot of criticisms regarding the book. If I had to suggest a 3rd book it'd be Justice League. Everything else I read aren't the best for just jumping in.

I had a feeling that would get you to throw confetti in the air :funny:
