I'm not a Pirates hater. I'm a DMC hater. DMC took everything great about the first movie and threw it out the window and took everything bad about the first film and made it the focus.

As someone stated- DMC was so over the top that it felt like a parody of the first film.

Exactly. Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, while not the pinnacle of cinema, was a pretty great movie.

Dead Man's Chest was entertaining, but I found myself rolling my eyes and checking my watch more than I was laughing or getting caught up in the moment.

Okay. I mean - three way swordfight. That's pretty badass. Three-way swordfight that goes on for way too long and involves a giant wheel? No thanks.

pirates was awful and i had such hop after the first movie. the whole cannabal island sequence wasn't necessary and any time depp wasn't being funny was a waste of time

I enjoyed both. They both have their own flaws and goods. Personally, I prefer SR. It didn't bore me to tears.

So Depp has to be amusing for his role to have any sort of significance?

That doesn't make a damn lick of sense.

I voted for SUPERMAN RETURNS. I did like POTC: DMC, though.

Personal opinion, most of what I didn't like about POTCDMC, was when they tried to make Depp amusing in every scene, instead of just letting him become amusing in every scene, it felt forced some of the time, and that is one of my big complaints of a movie I liked very much

I think that goes a long way with the whole "parody of the first one" argument, to be honest.

PotC, because they've been fun movies and damn good. I can't wait for the third one. Supes returns was s*** built upon crappy films that have been treated as if they had were worth anything. Supes character just sucks and the stories have lame villains and even lamer plots. Lex is nothing but a evil ral estate agent.

I don't disagree they went Oceans 12 on the bit, and made way to many references, or parody of the first movie. I just don't see how it justifies saying the movie sucked, it's one of the flaws of the movie, sure I will agree to that any day though

Superman Returns, because Pirates 2 was little more than a glorified trailer. :o

I never said the movie sucked. Maybe I did, actually, but I didn't mean that it was like...terrible.

After the original, there were some really high standards to live up to. And while the movie entertained me to a point, a lot of the stuff that made the first one as exciting and fun was missing.

As has been pointed out before, Jack Sparrow from Dead Man's Chest was essentially a parody of the Jack Sparrow from Curse of the Black Pearl. Too much of his material was tongue-in-ceek references to the original film, making it painfully obvious that they really didn't have anything terribly original.

The antagonists were pretty much rehash from the original - cursed monster pirates. While the details were different, they were essentially the same.

The entire island sequence was entirely pointless and unrealistic. "Hey guys, let's run around in giant hamster balls! LOL!"

Almost EVERY memorable moment or line from the first movie was rehashed at least once.

The possible love connection between Jack and Elizabeth. Ick.

Overblown action sequences. Three-way giant-wheel swordfight, running and swinging around in hamster balls...I'm not saying that they shouldn't try anything original, but it was waaaaay too over-the-top.

I won't dare say that Superman Returns was some great achievement, but damned if I didn't enjoy it more. There was just something about Dead Man's Chest that left me dissappointed.

I think that might be one of the best avatars of all time.

Plus, I agree. :O

I was going to write about Pirates but you summed up everything that I was about to say.

Now, I do agree with some things you said, and that "I don't see how this justifies saying the movie sucked," was not directed specifically at you. I don't think it was the rehashing that bugged me about Sparrow, it was this. In the first one what makes Depps performance so one of a kind, is that, Sparrow is a just misreable pirate, he's terrible, that first stunt he thinks will work to get away from the gaurds, only happens to fall through, he blunders everything. Now, what is the difference between DMC and Curse of the Black Pearl? In Curse Sparrow convinces us that he is a good pirate, in DMC he tells us that he is a good pirate, in Curse he doesn't have to say anything, he just makes us believe that this awful drunk is the coolest Pirate ever, in DMC he begs us to think that way.

I think you are wrong about the villains being rehased though, I mean, the general point of the villains might be the same, but seriously most villains are kind of all the same if you look at it through that light. You could make the argument Davy Jones isn't even the real villain, just a tradgic figure caught in the middle of the greedy Lord Cutler Beckets diablocal scheme.

I agree about the first Island, that whole scene takes about 15-20 minutes, and I think POTCDMC could only improve if you where to make it 15-20 minutes shorter.

I feel the three way sword fight gets to much hate, because that was pretty freaking cool, and that is probably a harder action scene to pull off (because of the trios of steps, and exact movement all three men had to perfect) then the special effects laiden Plane sequence in SR

You're more then free to not like the movie though, and I do agree to an extent with many of your complaints about it

I for one have the completely opposite opinion. I liked SR a LOT and I absolutely loathed Pirates 2...

That is why I created the thread meh boy

Again, I enjoyed SUPERMAN RETURNS immensely; DMC was good, but it had a lot more faults than RETURNS had, in my opinion. Having said this, I am excited to see AWE.

Not a big fan of either. Both were too long. Both were recaps of earlier films in their franchises, not enough happened in either and the villains were underused in both.

Overall, I think SR is the better put together film. Better written and directed anyways. The characters also have more depth. But Pirates 2 entertained me more. I thought the last half hour of Pirates 2 captured what the rest of the film did not.

SR while I really dug certain aspects, and am one of the few who liked Superman becoming a father and repeating his lines to his son that Jor-El said, I just thought that it lagged, Routh and Bosworth lacked enerhgy and chemistry and the movie just paced as something....too stogey.

though I will be one of the few who will not complain about no super-powered villain or no action. I thought we got plenty of action and enjoyed the Luthor of Spacey thoroughly. I especially enjoyed the scene that was so graphic when he and his men stomped Superman, almost to death.

It was too bad (IMO) that he was underused like Davy Jones and outside of that scene never really enteracted with any other main character nor even really dealt with sufficently at the end though.
