superman returns blatantly...

pirates was horrible, I died twice watching it.

I rewatched Superman as the dvd came out last week, it doesn't hold up IMO, its long, dull and doesnt have much replay value other than the plane sequence. So I'll pick Pirates because it was alot more visually eye catching and exciting than SR would ever wish to be.

Another movie fight? This one may have some legitimacy to it, basically the two summer heavy weights Pirates of the Carribean, vs. Superman Returns, which did you actually like better?

My opinion, I completely hate Superman Returns, and loved POTCDMC, but I know their are many on here who disagree with me, so let the fighting commense

Superman Returns was a good movie. It just wasn't great. POTC: DMC was a great movie and wins this poll.

Now, I do agree with some things you said, and that "I don't see how this justifies saying the movie sucked," was not directed specifically at you. I don't think it was the rehashing that bugged me about Sparrow, it was this. In the first one what makes Depps performance so one of a kind, is that, Sparrow is a just misreable pirate, he's terrible, that first stunt he thinks will work to get away from the gaurds, only happens to fall through, he blunders everything. Now, what is the difference between DMC and Curse of the Black Pearl? In Curse Sparrow convinces us that he is a good pirate, in DMC he tells us that he is a good pirate, in Curse he doesn't have to say anything, he just makes us believe that this awful drunk is the coolest Pirate ever, in DMC he begs us to think that way.

Wow, that's actually a very good observation that I hadn't thought of before. I think you may have put into words the deeper problem that I had with Jack while watching Dead Man's Chest - one that, for whatever reason, I couldn't manage to put into words myself.

I think you are wrong about the villains being rehased though, I mean, the general point of the villains might be the same, but seriously most villains are kind of all the same if you look at it through that light. You could make the argument Davy Jones isn't even the real villain, just a tradgic figure caught in the middle of the greedy Lord Cutler Beckets diablocal scheme.

I can't deny that, by the end of At World's End, we'll likely see that Beckets is the overarching villain of the two movies. And I definitely thought the fishy pirates of Davey Jones' ship looked interesting...perhaps it was merely my overall distaste for the rest of the film that made me feel so poorly about this aspect.

I feel the three way sword fight gets to much hate, because that was pretty freaking cool, and that is probably a harder action scene to pull off (because of the trios of steps, and exact movement all three men had to perfect) then the special effects laiden Plane sequence in SR

I definitely enjoyed the three-way swordfight at first. I mean, come on - that's just inherently awesome. But as the scene went on, I thought it became increasingly ridiculous - what with them fighting on the wheel as it was rolling, and jumping on and off and all that craziness...by the end of it, I thought it had overstayed its welcome.

As for the plane sequence...it probably was a harder scene to pull off, but being the superhero fan that I am, I was gidd as hell and on the edge of my seat for that sequence. Say what you will for the rest of Superman Returns, but that was one scene that they definitely got right.

What I bloded, I am glad you say that because that is basically how I feel when people slam the Superman Returns bible down my throat, I just don't care half of the time because of my overall distaste for the movie.

I agree the 3 way swrod fight lasted a tad to long, but the whole premise of Pirates of the Caribbean, especially DMC is it is based off of over the top zaniness with that magic touch of Pirates/Johnny Depp/ Rush/Nighly/ and Hans Zimmer

I enjoyed both films but I liked Superman Returns better.
I think cuz it didn't seem as silly as Johnny being tied to a stick flipping around and falling completely unharmed 4 stories down.

DMC was okay, but I was expecting more. And SR took many, many wrong steps.

But in the end, no matter how much DMC got right, for me, it just couldn't compare to seeing Superman on the big screen for the first time...hearing the Williams score, the shuttle rescue, the closing flyby shot...all of those still give chills despite the other things Singer may have gotten wrong.

So SR wins for me...

I myself thought Pirates 2 put Pirates 1 to shame. Am I alone? I thought black pearl was a great intro that introduced the characters but dead mans chest put them through hell and brought out the best and worst of them. I also enjoyed the movies dark tone while still managing to be fun.

I think you're alone, I love Pirates 2(Favorite summer blockbuster this year), but honestly it doesn't come close for me Pirates 1 is possibley top 10 all time for me

well im not alone. all my friends and family agreed with me and so do alot of people on this board that i talked to when the film came out. but i think its pretty split because a lot of people liked the first one and i though it was meh.

I enjoyed SR more than I did Pirates. Pirates,for some reason just didn't have any flow to it more so than SR. Pirates seemed a rehash of same sematics as first one,and it didnt even compare to first imo...
