Marvel Studios isn't invulnerable to that. Age of Ultron made less than The Avengers did, after all.

Age of Ultron is literally their only sequel that didn't gross more than the previous film. Each Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Guardians sequel outgrossed the previous film. And since Age of Ultron only came up about 100 million short of The Avengers, I'd say they still have a pretty high success rate.

You're right, it is a high success rate. No doubt about that. Point is that they aren't invulnerable to it. Whether only or not, it's still happened to them as well, so it's not just outside of Marvel Studios.

Its going to happen to everyone eventually. Ironman, Thor and Cap movies have pretty much peaked now. Only one way to go now.

A Deadpool 2 China release will help balance out any drops. The First did not get that.

I never knew Tim Miller fanboys were a thing before this movie happened. They're out in full force on Twitter against this movie. One more reason why I want this movie to be good.

Why are Tim miller fanboys even a thing? All he has directed is Deadpool so far...

Not surprising he has fanboys, the first movie was beloved by many people. The majority don't act like those twitter clowns but many more will if the movie disappoints, which is the cost of replacing the director. I wonder how much heat Reynolds will take if this film is a dud considering the creative differences were between he and Tim.

I'd buy that but some of these people have a very strong disdain against Reynolds. I mean I guess I can see why but at the same time I think they're being extra. Either way, I don't think that's fair. Iron Man and Iron Man 2 had the same directors and there was a difference in quality between the two. The reality is that even if DP2 isn't that good, we have no idea if DP2 with Tim Miller was going to be any better. When you've got a beloved first movie it's very very very hard to top it with a sequel. So DP2 could be a good movie and yet folks could still consider it a let down and then blame the lack of Miller for it. And even if Miller was still attached, the same thing could have happened. Just look at GOTG2.

What I find interesting is that not that long ago, Fox gave Ryan Reynolds a first look deal. Yea yea I know they're being bought by Disney but i just found it interesting.

Maybe not but the internet rolls like that. The fact that we'll never know makes it easier for people to troll and vent.

Also, GOTG vol. 2 was well liked by critics and audiences, so that's hardly a big letdown. Iron Man 2 was a bigger letdown for sure, but that was in part due to the now abolished creative committee. Still, Favreau took a bit of a hit after that, as did Nolan with TDKR. It's part of the deal if you work on high profile films. The opposite is that Miller would be held in even higher esteem for doing nothing, simply because he delivered on the first.

I want this film to be even better then the first and love what I'm seeing so far. Hopefully none of this comes to pass.

You're right but to be honest, it goes both ways. I mean if Deadpool 2 ends up being good, id hate to see anyone try and use that to discredit what Tim Miller did for the first either. I don't know I wish it wasn't the case of this movie being some kind of determining factor of who was the reason why the first was successful.

I get the sense its typical fanboy-ism over some of the decisions made.

He doesn't seem to like what they did with [BLACKOUT]juggernaut[/BLACKOUT]

I mean even if that's the case with Juggernaut, Marvel Studios has pulled such things with characters like that before.

EDIT

I think there are multiple reasons the first Deadpool movie works so well. I wouldn't say the romance was chief among them. I thought it was done well for having a romantic relationship in that type of film. As for the story, IMHO a movie can have a fairly simple and basic story and still be good. It all depends on execution and presentation. Deadpool was pretty much your basic superhero movie origin story but it did it with its own unique blend and flair.

Again none of the rumors I've heard yet have really repulsed me or anything. If anything, if the rumors are true, it sounds like this will be a pretty good film.

I have a feeling the marketing for this is going to kick in. The Deadpool social media page is asking people to sign up for Deadpool Core and then yesterday Fox released a Deadpool Easter poster. While Ryan Reynolds released a Deadpool/X-Men Easter egg

I am not expecting anything close to the first marketing wise (in terms of quantity) but I am hoping it's good.

I never ever wanted to have the movie spoiled obviously but once a few parts of the plot were spoiled for me I looked more into it. What's funny is that the person who leaked the plot, leaked it to show how bad the movie is and I'm just like holy crap this movie sounds really good.

But yea like I've said (and I believe you've said it as well) it's all about the execution of the plot.

So I just thought about something
If Vanessa supposedly dies in the first five minutes of the film, then how come in the trailer she talks to Wade about the kid needing him? I am gonna assume that the kid doesn't appear until later on in the film. Do you guys think there is some twist to this whole Vanessa dying spoiler? I am not saying she doesn't die but I have also read she exists in an afterlife version of Wade/Vanessa's apartment so I am wondering if she does indeed die, that her character still plays a role in the film.....Either way I feel like she has a presence later on in the film if she is talking to Wade about the kid needing him

I hope FINALLY, we have an explanation of the Deadpool timeline WITHIN the movie. There are several reports that the X-Men (Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alex Shipp and Kodi Smith) appears in a room in the X-Mansion.

I still have faith in FOX to try to "explain" things a little...

If present, then Marsden, Janssen, Berry and Cumming should be.

I don't count Gambit because Tatum hasn't actually played him yet. And I don't count Toad because the one in DOFP could just as easily be a younger version of Ray Park.

So as Sunspot younger version in New Mutants.
There wasn't second Gambit, Juggernaut yet.
And TV series is other dimension, so where is second Blink.

Infinity War will tell us that. What Marvel does is constantly change, that allows their characters to grow each movie and with the exception of AOU (which had only fair reviews and reception) these properties have been going uphill with no sign of going backwards.

Same thing has to happen with Deadpool. If the quality goes up and the film brings in something fresh then the same will happen. If theres no evolving in a meh film it won't go up. We've seen this happen before.

May not be talking about that kid. she may be talking about having a child of their own and that allows her words to play on his mind later on.

So then Morena has more than one scene. Because the way it was initially said is that she dies in the first five minutes and doesn't appear again. In fact, I am 100% sure that Jeremy Conrad said Morena only has one scene in the entire film. Of course I know what you have said is speculation but it would still require Vanessa to appear later on in the movie.

Well from the description i read online

The first thing it says is Deadpool is attacked by rival mercenaries.

Now what if the film pretty much opens with deadpool returning home and them having the talk, and THEN they are attacked killing Vanessa.

The "5 minutes" could be a slight exaggeration

That was basically my same reaction. I believe it's because the people working on Deadpool generally know what they are doing. Not quite the same with Dark Phoenix ;) .
