Fox did hire the talent did't they?Like what all the other studios do.
Yes, and then they decide to handicap them. Hiring talent and then cutting their legs out from under them and forcing them to, "make it work" does not deserve credit. They didn't even want to make this movie, and cut the budget, just like they did for FF, because they didn't believe in it.

It took Reynolds 10 years to convince Fox to make this movie. They kept on saying no but he kept on trying... Any other normal person would have given up...So Fox gets none of the credit, as they almost blew this cash cow before it was even made due to the stupidity of their executives...

Basically, this movie exist because Reynolds other flicks didn't fly. I have never been more happy that Green Lantern and all his other big budget projects were failures. Otherwise Deadpool wouldn't have been made, at least not this way.

Fox should be bowing down to Reynolds and Tim Miller right now. Kissing their feet and asking them how they like their tea.

The thing is, Fox has nothing to do with this. They got lucky with talent, just like with Singer the first time around. Fox tries to sabotage this stuff, and they get saved by the likes of Singer, Vaughn and now with Tim Miller.

I never want to hear a reason why Wolverine can't be rated R again.

Oh Lord, no. Tom Rothman is long gone!

People have to give credit to Fox if this film happened. It was actually a Fox exec who worked on X-Men: First Class who thought that Tim Miller was a great fit to direct the film, and set up a meeting between him and Reynolds. And the creative team have been repeating that the studio had some major cojones to greenlight it.

That's what studios usually do, when everything goes well. They hire the talent, and if they are on the same page they let the talent go off to make their film.

There's been a big change at the studio. We're not talking about the people who rushed X-Men: The Last Stand into production, and who micro-managed the production of X-Men Origins: Wolverine to the point where Gavin Hood had beef with the head over what color they should paint their set. If Tom Rothman was still at the helm, this version of Deadpool would've never seen the light of the day.

The problems people have on the current X-Men films is the problem they've always had. That they don't enjoy Bryan Singer's take on the franchise (opinions...), and not that Fox is ashamed respecting the source material.

The Fantastic Four incident? S**t happens! They put a lot of trust in Josh Trank's vision, and it backfired.

At least they give their talent some freedom. Marvel Studios would've never allowed something as unique as Deapdool to happen, because it would've had to fit in with the 'MCU.'

Give credit where credit's due.

Pretty much. But in fairness he was always still trying to make this film no matter the number of films he was working on.

Then why did the 7m disappear days before filming started? The brass didn't have faith.

The thing is if say he was Hal Jordan, in a successful GL franchise, there is no way this movie happens. This is one of those beautiful serendipitous things.

What the actual ****? It's on track to be the biggest opening for a debut superhero franchise.

I am hoping this success leads to 2 sequels being announced, Deadpool & Cable and X-Force.... An X Force movie with Deadpool/Cable/Wolverine/Domino and a few others would be friggin amazing...

Even with Kingsman's success, this was still a risky venture. Everything points to them doing everything in their power to reduce the risk. I suspect they already anticipated the lack of China. Which did add a respectable amount to Kingsman's total.

When i first read the script i knew the film had to happen. It was so weird and original. There is quite a few things missing in the film. Like a crazy shootout at the end that blows away The Matrix. But the way they worked around the budget restrictions with Deadpool leaving his duffle bag in the cab was hilarious.

Lack of cash makes people more inventive sometimes.

They sure as heck worked their creative muscles to make that stuff work. I now want to see that shootout in the sequel and the appropriate joke about the budget.

To be fair, they had the Fantastic Flop mess on their hands and they were scared...
A problem of their own making of course. I have no problem with budgeting properly. What I don't like is cutting a director's legs off right before shooting. Thankfully they made it work, but that is an "in spite of" moment.

I don't know how this doesn't change minds in the studio heads. There's an audience there for adult blockbusters, all you've got to do is try and keep the budget down and have good marketing campaign.

Oh, and an awesome movie. :dpl:

Is this really news though? The Matrix is 17 years old now. Good lord, I am old. :funny:

And it's not like NO teens and children were at this one. There were plenty of them at my theater at a 9pm showing for cryin' out loud. In fact one father walked in 10mins late with 4 small children in tow just to sit in one of the front two rows LOL.
