Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 3

All the MCU films together probably won't have as many one-liners as this...not that it's a problem.

If it rains let it pour!
Yeah, and much like there's a few people who complain about the MCU's humor (which I love personally), there's gonna be those who just don't like the amount or style of humor here. But it comes with the territory, humor in general is subjective but everything we have seen through marketing has been a joke and been playing strong.

The majority should know exactly what they are getting into by now. Nothing should come as a surprise in regards to the tone and what kind of humor to expect.

This has been my favorite marketing campaign EVER.

It's been pretty friggin amazing :dpl:

Side Note: Me and a few of my drinking buds actually killed last Saturday evening listening to the Tube Bar Tapes and riffing on calls that Deadpool would make to Red....Seriously, when you combine these two things the imagination becomes lethal lol. Didn't want to emerge from that hole...Still have a hangover from it a week later.

It's definitely one for the ages.

well excitingly waiting to watch ryan renold as the super hero in the movie. the trailers are simply mind wobbling.. cant wait anymore:ilv:

The last time a marketing campaign was this fun (without, of course, being as funny) was The Dark Knight.

i think TDK wins on account of being so damn interactive, but deadpool definitely wins on the humor side.

Difference is though, Deadpool is a character known for his humor, that's different than Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk are not as known for their humour as Deadpool.

GOTG is, and that's why not as many people complained at the humour in that movie, so I think it will be the same for DP.

All Marvel comics have humor, and Marvel has been wise to make sure that's present in their films. It's a huge reason as to why my friends and family members love those films as much as they do. It's fun and makes them care about the characters. It's no surprise that the standout character in DOFP with audiences also was because of his humorous personality.

Of course Deadpool relies far more on it then others as does Spider-Man. Which is why that team up is so popular right now. My point was that everyone has different tastes. They may be few and far between but much like there are comic fans who don't like the constant jokes, film plays the same way. There are gonna be those who just don't like the crude humor and would prefer it toned down. Deadpools strongest stories are more on the dramatic side and I'm sure we will see a few of those debates if this film does not touch on the melancholy and drama of the character.

But like I said, the extreme heavy humor comes with the territory here. The rating, trailers and marketing should let audiences be fully aware of what they are getting into and so far it's been very positive. I don't think there will be issues at all.

Are these all real promotion material? Goddamn.

I can't tell whether it is fan art or official. You can tell this is being produced by real fans.

I think that's to the movie's advantage. Right now, the ad campaign is self-perpetuating. It does a good job and inspires people to make their own stuff, which is also seen and encourages people to see the movie.

The more I see of this movie the more I worry that the constant one-liners are going to grow tedious to a lot of viewers. Yes, that is Deadpool, but we'll see how well that flies with the GA.

One of my favorite comedies is Airplane. That's a movie that just bombards you with jokes. I think its philosophy is that, even if every joke doesn't work, there will be so many that you will laugh all the time. I think this movie is taking the same approach and I think it makes sense to do so.

The problem is with many MCU movies, is they I next too much humour and forget the drama and emotion, which for me are the 2 most important things. The likes of Iron Man, Winter Soldier, GOTG and Ant Man all have a lot of humour, but aren't as criticised for it because the movies also have a ton of heart and emotion in them, and they are allowed to breathe without the humour under-cutting them.

But movies like TDW and the IM sequels had plenty of humour but no heart or emotion to them, that's where the criticism comes from.

I think what will help in Deadpool is there will be a lot of heart and emotion to go with the humour. At least that's the impression I get from the trailers. And I think that will be the difference in the end.

Really fun clip, the movie certainly will stand out different to other super hero movies and thats a good thing

Iron Man 3 had a good chunk of emotion, and was definitely loaded with tension and brains. Thor: The Dark World had other problems than humour.

I think the people unhappy with the humour are mostly die-hard fans, who'd prefer the dark tone of some of the comic book stories. But, as long as the stakes are intact, I don't think it's a big problem.

The Avengers on the other hand - very unpopular opinion coming up - felt way too light for me on several aspects, with the story being mostly an excuse to see them all together on the big screen and Loki's plan mostly being thrown in there and away to give them something to fight. It lacked stakes and tension.

But Deadpool is a very different animal, as it's a comedic property to begin with. But having the right balance, and not forgetting the heart of the story and drama is very important, and I'm fairly confident they haven't forgotten that aspect of the character.

i think deadpool will stand out because of its humour and because he will dare to say things no other super hero will and get away with it

They should just change to the lyrics of the DMX song to "Ryan and Tim gonna give it to you" because that's just what they've been doing since Christmas.

I'm also curious of NTW's chances of appearing in New Mutants or something. I think Boone or Kinberg said they'd try to make it based on the classic lineup (though this is before even Boone has written has a single page of anything) but if NTW turns out to be a hit, could she appear? I'm hoping she does kinda become a hit though. Marvel has boosted characters through the movies and it'd be a real feat for Miller and co. to turn a Z-list mutant into someone people wanted to get more of.

Given the reception to this so far I can easily see her being put into New Mutants to capitalise

Great point. "Mutant 101" for example on Instagram

Disagree about IM3, sort of agree about TA, but definitely agree about Deadpool, and that's most important in this thread :yay:.

Disagreeing, sort of agreeing and definitely agreeing about different things is the beauty of message boards! :woot:

I don't know about that. AOU alone must have set a record with regards to high one liners count. Deadpool may struggle to have much more. The new Thor movie looks to take things to a whole new level though.

I love Iron Man 3, as do alot of people. It's my favorite of the series actually, so I completely disagree with you there. I know people who flat out hate it as well so ultimately, to each their own.

Your problems with the MCU don't exactly reflect everyones. Likewise with my problems in the X-Men universe. Just within this short clip I got a great sense of who Colossus is as character. And it didn't take much. The fact it took 16 years to get that is pretty frustrating as an X-Men fan. I just don't understand how they can let characters be so void of personality so often, and that's left me fanboy ranting more then a few times. But hey, other people don't mind it and think it's impossible to give smaller roles a personality.

Bingo. Not everyone will enjoy these films on the same level. The more we accept that the better. Doesn't mean there's not room for criticism. Fox, DC and Marvel all have films that are generally more well received then others.

Well the fact that IM3 has very mixed opinions on it says it all really. But with many MCU movies, too much humour is a common criticism.

Anyway, my point actually was that if Deadpool has the right amount of heart and emotion to go with the humour, people won't complain about the latter.

Latest DP clip seemed like it had a blunder in timing and matching with the soundtrack.
[BLACKOUT]When Colossus gets hit, figured the "beat to be cut" given the literal impact of the situation. Unfortunately, Dust's punch didn't drown out the melancholy.[/BLACKOUT]

I think that clip is edited.

Not really. Iron Man 3 received an A cinema score, 79% rt on audience and critic as well as grossing over a billion dollars. How many last entries score that high and improve on the previous? It wasn't mixed, it's pretty obvious the majority liked it. It's just that some people didn't, and a section of fans had very strong issues with certain characters. I personally didn't cause I don't read Iron Man comics, but I can see their pov.

The point is that even with a movie like TDK there will be those who have issues with it. Doesn't mean it's the majority.

That doesn't mean there won't be those who just don't like it. All films are subjective as is humor. As long as the majority digs it and box office returns are good we are all solid.
