Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 4

Eh. Stuff like this doesn't really bother me anymore. It's Hollywood.

Oh No! What a sad state of affairs...Depressing news. I thought Miller/Reynolds was a match made in heaven, now we get this! Creative differences? Where do the writers fit into this? Maybe Reynolds should do everything.

Huh, that was unexpected. Fingers crossed they find a good director soon.

Not the most encouraging news, at all. Hopefully Reynolds can pull this together somehow.

The question is now who can replace him?
Ruben Fleischer, get that Zombieland reunion.

Joe Carnahan if he's got room on his plate while doing BBIII.

Ilya Naishuller
Todd Strauss-Schulson
Don Coscarelli
Paco Cabezas

Just to name a few.

That's shocking. I didn't expect him to leave, I was under the impression he was the brains behind Deadpool's success. But ofcourse the writers and Ryan Reynolds are also crucial.

Fleischer and Carnahan are good suggestions. Matthew Vaughn would be perfect for this but he is busy.

This may be a controversial statement, but I don't think Deadpool was lightning in a bottle that can't be reproduced by anyone other than Miller. Get another capable director who knows and respects the material, and we're good to go. The template was laid down quite clearly with the first one.

Well, he's working on his own "Deadpool" coming out next year, which would give him a 4 month window between that release and D2 for post-production. You would definitely need a co-director if Vaughn has to be attached.

Planet of the Apes and the Bourne franchises survived and thrived director changes after an opening installment. I'm really leery of the idea that a franchise has to keep a director on for 2 or 3 movies. If the script is good and they don't bring in a hack everything should be fine.

Yes I have slight concerns. I hope this just isn't a Ryan Reynolds ego trip that leads to him screwing over his own franchise but until I have proof of that I'm just going to be chill about the situation.

That was my first thought.

creative difference between a director and studio? ok. but between the main actor/producer and director ? what could happened?

I'm not so easy on shouting 'Next!'.

Tim Miller's direction is part of what made the original so special. He really kept it gritty and human, and managed to juggle all those different elements perfectly (and I loved the way he directed the action scenes). In fact, I liked the end result much better than I liked the leaked script draft back in 2010.

I hope they manage to get someone like Joe Cornish or Edgar Wright.

Sad ****ing news!

Casting maybe?

I hope they hire a new director who isn't a raging teal-orange maniac, at least. I enjoyed natural palette of the first film.

The same thing that could happen between a studio and director I'd wager.
This had a lot more creative leeway not just because it cost a lot less and was aimed at a different demo, its managerial staff was a lot smaller.

Dismissing Tim Miller is silly, he was integral to Deadpool's success as a film.

It's just really sad. You've got this core group of people who've been working together for years to get a Deadpool Movie off the ground. And now, for the sequel, they can't see eye to eye.

There's no way Carnahan can do this if they want to keep 2018 as the release date.

Don Coscarelli? Are you kidding me. It would never happen.

Hard to say what happened here. It seems Miller is still on good terms with Fox, for now. For Reynolds, Deadpool really resurrected his flailing career after he had so many missed starts as a movie star. He might just be fully taking over now and getting very protective of this franchise. That's just my read on this. Reynolds is asserting more control and that's not working for Miller.

Now look, I think Miller did a great job, but at the same time, I don't believe he's the only one who can make a good Deadpool movie. Not to mention, you already have to deal with the stigma of the film being a stigma and expectations being so much higher this time.

However, my concern is that the film now has no director when it's supposed to start shooting in a couple of months, and it's supposed to make a 2018 release date.

They should have fought for Miller more... but I guess what Reynolds wants, Reynolds gets.
