Giggity. That is all.

People keep thanking me for getting Deadpool made. I didn't get it made. YOU did. The internet put Fox in a hammerlock death-grip.

Awesome.

We should've pointed out that we want it to be rated R :P

I'm sure since he was involved in the script which is rated R that he's very aware of that.

What has me worried is that a guy from the Schmoes Know's podcast claimed that (director) Tim Miller himself told him that they reworked the script in order to aim a PG-13 rating, which is basically the reason why Fox finally gave in and greenlit the project. Which is quite dissapointing, if true.

Eh, they can shoot for both like The Wolverine did. With the Blu-ray being the unrated Cut.

I'm fine if they have pg-13, as long as they use it. Deadpool breaks the 4th wall, so use it as a comedic opportunity. Just imagine it.

*Shoots someone*
"Whoa, whoa, wait! Where's the blood? Where's the gore? His head was supposed to explode! F*&%ing pg-13. HEY! WHY DID YOU JUST BLEEP ME WHEN I SAID F*&$ING? You did it again! Stop it! Damn rating system. Oh, I can say damn? Well that's nice. Can I play with cute puppies too? I just want to make sure that's allowed."

Those 'unrated cuts' often feel tacked on, and aren't exactly the same thing as if they would really shoot for an R-rating. I don't need a cut in which they add CGI blood and include a few alternate takes in which the actors say 'f***' instead of 'damn.' Not the same thing at all.

Either go the whole nine yards and really aim for an R-rating, which means it's going to be tonally more mature and 'free,' and will use blood squibs, or don't bother.

Would feel like too much of a gimmick, I think.

The Wolverine is a fascinating case study when you compare the two cuts. Obviously, the ninja fight with the snow plow was a big deal. But they made some real subtle changes as well. Blood on his claws and his claws actually popping through people he stabbed.

Agree with all of this.

Problem with that was that they cut the ninja fight entirely for the cinema version, which was one of the best scenes in the movie... I'd hate for the same to happen again

I gotta read up on some Deadpool before this comes out. Any particular highlights I should read that'll give me the skinny on Deadpool?

Deadpool breaking the fourth wall is a gimmick. But nobody cares because it's a highly enjoyable one. So play the gimmick for all it's worth. If you ignore it, THEN it draws attention to the studio pandering for more money.

And honestly, you think Deadpool wouldn't do just what I described were the character really sentient? Of course he'd poke fun at being forced into a pg-13 restriction.

Basically you need to Scott Pilgrim it up.

Yup. If you're going to embrace 4th wall breaking Deadpool, fully EMBRACE it. And that means don't shy away from topics that might upset people or the studio.

Deadpool wouldn't let it slide that he was forced into pg-13. And we all know that the comic fans aren't happy either, so make the best of both worlds and make fun of it. Trying to ignore the elephant in the room is the best way to draw unwanted attention to it. It's going to draw attention, it's a friggin elephant, so control the kind of attention it gets.

A running gag would probably be him attempting to say the f word more than once by trying to write it down or get someone else to say it or whatever.

The late 90s Deadpool 1-33 by Joe Kelly is the best you'll find for complete Deadpool info. Cable and Deadpool is good too.

Exactly. That's a great way to have fun with the restrictions.

They should do it like how they did in the first episode of Sherlock Season 3.

Sherlock: F-
Watson: Cough!

And similar f-word sounding combinations.

Haha, exactly. And have Deadpool get more and more frustrated by it every time. Which could be a great payoff for when he finally gets to use his one F-bomb.

Yea that could be a great running gag. Every time he tries to say it he gets cut off by someone else or he gets shot in the head.

Re-reading the script there is some really funny stuff in there. I think a lot of the pop culture references need updating. The running jokes about Amy Winehouse are a bit old now. Maybe some running jokes about Kanye and Kim or something.

And the whole sequence where [blackout] he is attempting to kill himself is pure genius. The part where he is on the subway with a picture of Hugh Jackman's face stapled to his as a disguise will be an absolute riot on screen.[/blackout] And it's inspired by the "Thom Cruz" run in the comics, so these guys definitely did their home work.

I also think the script does a great job showing the tragedy of Deadpool. It's not your typical origin story, some parts of it are really harrowing, almost Cronenberg esque body horror. I said it when it first leaked but it could really be something unique and quite brilliant if they make the transition from page to the screen well.

Does anyone think they'll do a Dredd and have Reynolds' face cover for a majority of the movie?

And as far as the 4th wall thing goes, I wish they'd let him acknowledge the MCU in some capacity.

I was thinking about this but I can't see it being done contractually. I was thinking of Deadpool at the beginning acknowledging the fact Feige is a producer on the film and getting excited asking if that means someone would appear preferably Spidey (although that's still really Sony). But I think it'd be too confusing for the general audience.

I'm not against Deadpool breaking the fourth wall. But it needs to be done in the right doses and lots of intelligence. They better not overdo it, because gimmicks isn't what Deadpool is all about.

There's much more to the character, and he's got a hell of a story, and there's space for some beautiful character development. And that should be the core of the movie.

In the best runs Deadpool doesn't spend the entire comic breaking the fourth wall and talking to the comic book writers. It happens once in a while, but mostly the best writers focused on telling stories.

Yeah, I want plenty of silliness and fourth wall breaking, so long as it's done organically, one thing that comes to mind is Kevin Spacey's fourth wall breaking in House of Cards, but taken to 11. I don't want something like the Deadpool game where there's so much silliness and fourth wall breaking that they lose sight of Deadpool actually being a character. He should be silly, but he should also be a three dimensional character, not a two dimensional joke machine.
