We're not big fans of offer stories for obvious reasons. Everyone in Hollywood, directors, writers and actors are offered parts, scripts, meetings, etc. and its not really news until something happens. But from
Deadline,
THR (more a "in-the-mix story") onto
Vulture, this is the world we must all play ball in.
So with that in mind,
Robert Rodriguez has been offered to direct "
Deadpool" by
20th Century Fox tipped to us by the
latest issue of Production Weekly and confirmed to us by a sources very close to the project. It
is something he is considering, but that's it at the moment. But perhaps more tellingly, it clearly indicates that Fox is happy with how the "
Predators" and "
Machete"/
Troublemaker relationship is going so far and this is also indicated by the fact that this is the second project in five months they have offered the Austin-based filmmaker (they also
offered him the "
Planet Of The Apes" reboot and he passed, but they also offered it to at least three other filmmakers too which illustrates the randomness of an offer story none of those directors
took the gig).
Keep in mind, this is just an offer before you get your pants in a twist. Personally we don't like the idea for myriad reasons that should be obvious considering our feelings about "
X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and C-list characters, but chiefly because we'd rather see the "
Bladerunner" influenced s
ci-fi film "
Nervewrackers" come to the screen and or any original or
homegrown Troublemaker projects that have been brewing.
Our bet (hope) is he passes, but that's just a total guess on our part. Is "Deadpool" star
Ryan Reynolds still attached? Presumably yes, if they're putting out offers. The fast-moving Rodriguez shoots "
Spy Kids 4: Armageddon"
this summer, and then has the
Nimród Antal-helmed "Predators" in theaters on July 9 and "Machete" on
September 3. Personally, we liked when this information (offers) stayed behind closed doors.
