Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine at the BoX office

Kind of off topic... but I was today years old when I found out that The Passion of the Christ was the highest grossing DOMESTIC R-rated film. I knew it was a big hit in 2004, but had no idea it held that title for 20 years.

That was a great achievement by Mel.

Deadpool made reference to it in Deadpool 2.

Did we get the Tuesday number?

I loved it and thought it looked fantastic. Every time I've seen the film people cheer when he puts it on.

I think it worked well as a battle mask, like when he put it on and started fighting, that was cool. But later when he was wearing it during "dramatic conversation" scenes....eeeehhhhhh....that felt kind of weird.

I thought it worked. It finally felt like I was actually seeing Wolverine onscreen. I like that they gave him the CG eye lenses like Deadpool.

Its kind of crazy how Deadpool has dominated the Fox-verse considering it came in late and started as a joke villain character in his early life to dominating the X-Men and F4 who are more established and well known comic book characters. It also shows how badly FoX handled some of their IP of course as well at times.

Yah I think @lenz had it pegged at $1.2 billion earlier in the thread and that seems like a solid bet now. Tho the Wednesday OS number has me starting to buy into 1.3+.
Hopefully its a little self perpetuating and the news of it crossing the magical $1B mark will encourage those old MCU veterans to come out of retirement to go and see it who might still on the fence to see what all the fuss is about. It certainly doesnt seem like the marketing has let up from Ryan and Hugh at the moment at least anyway.

To be perfectly honest, the main draw of this movie to me was seeing Wolverine wear his classic costume and his mask. I have no shame in admitting that.

I still remember how Fant4stic and Dark Phoenix opened at #2 with less than $50 million at domestic box office and ultimately failing to cross the $100 million mark which was a first for both of the IPs. At that time, the only Marvel ips that failed to reach $100 million were Blade, Ghost Rider, Elektra, Punisher and Howard the Duck. So imagine how embarrassing those numbers were at the time. Also both films had Simon Kinberg, which to this day, I never fully understand why he got such a huge power position at Fox after years of bad track record as a screenwriter.
