Details on Sandman's car chase scene...

There's enough cheese in Spider-Man's comics to make a 45-year-old sandwich. And you people are talking about a scene that will last a few seconds...which Cnizzel has already cleared up, as to what exactly was being filmed.

I think some people are gettin this wrong, his not just surfing on the door. It flies off after the crash and he Spiderman jumps out of the way of it since he was hanging on the back of the truck and lands on it. Hes now no longer holding on to the back of the truck with his hands, he shoots his web and is about 15 feet behind the truck surfing on the door holding onto the truck with his webs. I hope this clears some stuff up.
This sounds like pure Comic-Book greatness.

i believe it.

it works with what we ve seen in recent set pics. nearly perfectly.

and welcome.

I like the sound of this scene, coupled with all the pics of the mangled and smashed up cars we've seen,it should be great

I remember we heard there was supposed to be a scene in SM-2 where Ock is chasing Spider-Man down a busy New York street, tossing cars at him,as Spidey frantically dodged them. But that turned out to be a lie :(

But the pic evidence seems to back up this one.

I want to see more high speed chase stuff with Spidey manuevering in and out of spots. Here's hoping this scene is great (which it sounds like it will) and that we get an aerial GG2 battle through the skyscrapers.

Hey all, im an extra for Spiderman 3 in Cleveland and I got to talking with the AD. I was lucky enough to get him to spill the beans on the main scene that theyre filming here.

basically what he told me was that the scene starts out with Sandman on top of a building watching the armorded trucks being loaded. And as they drive away Sandman jumps on the truck and breaks through the top. He starts filling the whole truck with sand and its making the truck hard to drive so he loses control and crashes into and GTO and a Chevy SS, which is the crash they filmed Yesterday.

After that Spidey comes to the scene swinging in. Sandman throws or shoots sand at Spidey trying to knock him down but to no avail. The car is now being controlled by Sandman and hes trying to hit cars into Spiderman who is now on the back of the truck, he smashes into two cars on the right side of the street. One of the cars flips up and back, and Spiderman has to do a "matrix" to avoid under it. The the door from the second car of that collision flies off and Spiderman catches it under his feet and is now "surfing" on the door avoiding more cars while hes web slinged to the back or the armored truck. That crash was shot today. Then he got short because he had to go but he said the scene ended with a big 4 car crash with the the trucke flipping over another car.

Theres going to be even more crashes that they have yet to film, there are still about 2 sets of 3 chained cars that they havent used yet.

Thats all he gave me but he said hed talk to me again tomorrow. So I guess ill have more then.

NICE!!! Hey didja know that this action scene is taken from Kevin Smith's Spider-man & Black Cat! Its in the very 1st issue except Spidey is surfing on a trash can

Ignore him, or if he's attacking on a personal level (without justification)... report it. Now... about that massage... you are over 18... right?!?!?!?!?!? ;)
:D Sympathetic to the end Slag...

He's surfed on car doors in the comics before. Anything for you to ***** and complain about more TheSlag.

Sorry if I want a serious approach to Spider-Man without the cheese.

OMG . . . he was being dragged on the road for like 2 seconds and swings back up.

2 Seconds? Assuming your rambling about these shots in SM3, I think NOT. Look at the stupid poses they have him in... they're playing it FULL CHEESE... :down COWAAABUNNNGAAA DUDE!!!!! :down

SweetHenrietta said:
haha, I think a joke like that can be included without being too cheesy. I mean Spidey was all about wise-cracking, so I can totally see him surfing a cardoor, but the key is to not drag that joke out - and I trust Raimi's comedic timing entirely :)

Also, it sounds more like it's intended for action, not for laughs. If he wanted cheese, he'd play Surfin USA and have Spidey hanging 10 on the door - thats pushing it, but still do-able (for about 3 seconds).

However, it sounds less like surfing and more like waterski-ing, and he's only doing it to keep up w/ the truck without having his body dragged along the concrete :p

Cheese SHOULD NOT be served with action IMO. Quips are fine... action with cheese... NOT. I don't remember EVER in the comics such a move. To put the cheese in the action, takes away from the moment, and the seriousness of the moment. Use quips, not COWABUNGA DUDE SURFIN USA  :down

It sounds like the Armored Truck rampaging through the streets causes the wrecks... NOT the two superpowered beings going toe to toe on a downtown NYC street (Which would be infinitely BETTER... especially IF it had been Ock vs. Spidey in SM2 DAMNIT).

Oh yes I think that's obvious judging from the pics.Sandman is obviously trying to make a getaway with this truck full of money, and Spidey is clinging onto it by a web line in pursuit. And skiing on a car door at some point....

No doubt the truck smashes into a few cars in the pursuit. Not quite the same as the villain himself causing the destruction with his powers....

(Which would be infinitely BETTER... especially IF it had been Ock vs. Spidey in SM2 DAMNIT).

Yeah definitely.

Still this armored truck chase doesn't sound like it's got anything on Ock's fight scenes yet :)

To be honest....what will? Maybe Raimi didn't get the psychology of Ock but he nailed the physical presence like no tomorrow.

Even Venom scenes might not be as amazing looking as Ocks.

Not even close to the train battle. From an action standpoint, this scene is NOTHING like I would imagine in a Spidey flick. Sounds more like the movie Bad Boys I or II... or any other run of the mill action film. :down

Makes me wonder IF Raimi is really a fan, read the comics, etc... or knows the characters in costume that well. Seems that has been his weakness in SM1 and SM2 so far. As good as the villains in 1 and 2 have been, they COULD had been SOOOO much better with even a little effort... or understanding. :(

There's cheese in pretty much all of Spidey's villains, silly/corny motifs to boot. Spider-Man comics has a lot of cheesy stuff in it, there's no way around it, it's apart of his making. And the cheese most of the times starts with Spidey himself.

a) Sounds like "settling" to me, vs. Demanding ;)
b) Regardless of NEVER being able to match the greatness of Ock, why should we settle for such a weak attempt with Sandy... and Spidey?

They're wrecking cars galore, big stunt... and we have superpowered beings in the movie... so why is the runaway armored car the powerhouse in the scene? Seems like a waste of some good effects IMO.

Also, sounds like a runaway train almost... IF I was worried about Mr. REPEATER RAIMI mind you. ;)

Yeah,Ock's action scenes are the best I've ever seen in any comic book movie. It's no wonder SM-2 scooped an Academy award for the special fx.

Or the bank/wall fight. How great were they?? And the clock tower fight. All great.Loved them all.

I'm not going to pass full judgement until I've seen more, but from what we've seen, and if what we've heard about this scene is true, then yeah it is kind of out of place for a Spidey flick.

Car chases are not something you relate to Spidey villains....

You know how I feel about the characterization in these movies all too well. And the opportunites we missed with not just the villains, but the other characters too.

But I'll say this for Raimi,he does usually hire great actors, and has a pretty firm handle on the action scenes.Which is why I hope you're wrong about the impression you're getting off Sandman's little truck chase here.
