Nintendo/The Pokemon Company have been very reluctant to allow a live action version of the main series games and I think Detective Pikachu is the next best thing. I think Pokemon Mystery Dungeon could also potentially work as a movie

I would also like to see Mystery Dungeon too. I guess they could just wait for the box office numbers and overall reception before greenlighting a movie from the main series?

As a kid who grew up watching Pokemon and having the cards... I think this looks great. I don't really follow the series, but my little sister has played every game and I showed her the trailer and she can't wait to see this.

Some of the Pokemon look more photorealistic than others. It's hit and miss.

For instance, Pikachu and Jigglypuff have fur and Charizard has scales, whereas Mr. Mime is all plastic-y. His hair has the same texture as his skin.

They made his hair into horns. He has some fuzz on the top of his head, so they clearly could've made it more into hair if they wanted. But hey, glad to have confirmation that Mr. Mime is the devil.

Let's just hope they were smart enough to not even attempt to make Jynx.

Well, I'm hardly a Pokemon expert. After watching the trailer again, no Mewtwo.

People on net have identified some of them as - charizard, charmeleon, bulbasaur, Psyduck, Jigglypuff and Mr. Mime, any others ?

Will see it, but still not sold that it will be good. Making a Detective Pikachu live-action movie still makes no sense to me.

I dunno. Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu (really?) Is really throwing me off. All I'm getting here is a PG version of Reynold's schtick...Coming out of a Pikachu. I don't care for Pokemon at all these days so I guess this movie is just not for me, but I've always found Pikachu to be the cutest thing (how could you not) and here he's just reminding me of every other CGI animal that gets voiced by a celebrity.

I’m there. If they find the kids dad I could see them having the kid decide to become a Pokémon trainer and from there we meet Misty, Brock, team rocket, and Ash.

I think someone on here once said Danny Devito should voice pikachu and I’m not gonna lie that contrast would have been funny as hell.

Detective Pikachu does seem like a weird starting point for a live action Pokemon series to begin, but we'll see how it goes.
