that there was very little promotion for POTC2?
It wasn't like Superman, where we saw Superman on everything.
I saw a few things for Pirates here or there, there weren't really many interviews, I didn't see one I think.
Maybe Superman was too publicised and oversaturated everything?

I don't think Supes was too publisized, people just weren't interested.
oh, well at least you weren't all trolly and came up with some stupid reason.
You may have been right.

Think about it, it's almost impossible to over sell a hero as popular as Superman, but in light of recent heroes owning the box office, Supes just isn't what he used to be. Pirates didn't need the over exposure because it has such a huge fan base built up from the last film which was only a few years ago. Supes fan base is over 30 years old. There are the die hard comic fans who made up a decent number, but the mainstream audiences aren't that interested in him anymore. Smallville is popular for two reasons, it's a new take on Superman and it has Tom Welling. This film didn't have anything new to offer and the biggest name involved is Kevin Spacey and despite his awesomeness isn't as popular with younger audiences. Also I can say WOM probably didn't help Supes because most teens found it boring, at least in my personal experience. Everyone I talked to who saw it hated it because it was too slow and most of them are seniors in high school, so you can get the idea of what demographic I'm refering to.

So ultimately advertising didn't do a whole hell of a lot for either film, it was all pre-existing hype and WOM that helped.
