i was hoping that the son would look more normal and real. he looks like a hollywood model . i dont like this.

If they bother to make McLane human again, I don't care if his son is Thanos.

The grouchy drunk rebel cop moaning about his head while his superiors are pissed at him and he makes sarcastic jokes because he's a "lone wolf on the edge who doesn't care", it's just standard 80's action characterizatiuon in the 3rd movie.

But if you look at it as a progression of his character in DH1, it actually makes very much sense. DH1 did such a good job making him completely human that it highlighted his flaws more than once. His state is a very plausible one considering he's kind of a d**k to his wife. Yes, DH1 doesn't tell you for sure that's how he'll be in the threequel, but it lays the groundwork to make him a wash-out. Also, what you described as McLane in DHWaV is an archetype, a category. Most heroes/characters can be more or less labelled. The key is how you flesh out that archetype during the movie and, imo, DHWaV did it very well via his choices, dialogue and even one-liners.

Also, I would strongly argue that the "rebel" part is not true.

That's fine, I think you're wrong but it's all opinion, like your CT though.

Custom title under your screen name, I am one too. :)

Hunter, Super McClain probably existed since the first one? but the Everyman aspect diminished by the fourth one. That, and he fought a jet do his Superness escalated. If Die Hard 3 had the movie cliches of the 80's then Die Hard 4 had cliches from the late 90's and 2000's. I like Die Hard 3 though due to its tone and story. I just think part 4 is so far removed from the other ones. I liked it ok but it lacks the certain earnestness that the other ones had; yes even the meh Die Hard 2.

Which is sad because the first film reinvented the genre along with Lethal Weapon with their freshness.

The jet thing, the jumping off a skyscraper with a hose tied around his waist, surfing a truck, fighting on the wing of a plane bombing down a runway, it's all the same in my book, action hero fantasy. For me the world weary McClane of the 4th was the closest to the McClane everyman of the first.

I'm saying he's a sarcastic, cynical badass everyman who takes a beating and does outlandish things in each movie. The only difference in the 4th is that he didn't bleed as much or cuss.

I agree. I think all four have had their share of crazy stuff. The ejector seat part in DH 2 was crazy too. Crazy fun.

In the unrated version he cusses a few times and there's a bit more blood!

Wait... so the ejector seat out of the exploding plane wasn't out there? Because damn, it's pretty much impossible. Same with trying to fight on the wing of a plane when it's trying to take off for... a long time.

Where did you find your avi? :O

Did anyone catch that official quote saying how his son is a ''badder ass than John McClane"..that made me want to cry :( in the Die Hard world John IS the baddest badass! I understand from a ''passing the tourch'' point of view for DH 6/7/8 but come on...some prettyboy outdoing Bruce? I loved his daughter and even Justin Long.

Why wasn't the story for DH5 just..John goes to the wedding of his daughter but the party (big hotel or whatever) is taken over by terrorists and he must save the day? It'd be a homage to the 1st and be AWESOME!! Could invite Powell too :woot:

And that's partly why I don't count DH2 as a DH movie, either.

DH3 felt more like a direct sequel to DH then DH2 did. And Last Boyscout did feel like the 3rd DH film with 16 Blocks as the 4th one. Thats the style they should of did after the first film.

DH2 tries to much to be like the first anyway. It's why I think the fourth is a better film. It has its own identity and didn't try to copy the first like the first. Which also makes the third one good.

The main reason why I think Die Hard 2 wasn't up to snuff with 1 and 3 was because John McTiernan didn't direct it. All of his Die Hard films, as over the top as they got at some points, still had a very grounded and somewhat realistic feel to them.

Die Hard 2 felt too corny and over-the-top and contained a lot of cheesy dialogue.

I'm fine with DH 2's over the top action But as for characters&story I just didn't think it was all that great and compared to the rest of the films in the series I feel it's the weakest,I still like it/feel it's underrated&consider it a sequel..But just my least favorite DH film!!
