Die Hard 5

Yeah, Die Harder is silly because the exact same thing happens to him, and his wife, AND even the reporter from the first movie, and it's even on Christmas. It's just too much coincidence to be taken seriously. Which is a shame because I actually think the other aspects of it make for a great action movie.

Yeah, Harlin was even proud of the fact that he replicated everything, citing "pleasing fans" as the reason of doing so.

While I think Die Hard With a Vengeance is a lot of fun (probably my second favorite) and Live Free or Die Hard is a good action movie, they had little to do with what made the first one special in the first place.

Which is probably why DH3 works more than DH2, it broke the formula that works only once.

Yes, that's probably true.
But the formula was still there, McClane was forced into impossible situations. The esence of the character was still there. But the 4th one was more 'action hero' oriented. Is hard for me to explain.

I know exactly what you mean and that's why I despise 4 (as a DH movie) so much.

You nailed the essence of what this series is (although it should never have been a series imo), him being *forced* into impossible situations and not him being in contained spaces.

He was forced in 4. McClane even talks about how he'd be happy to sit it out if there was someone else, but there is no one else so it has to be him.

I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion on the movie, if you didn't like it, you didn't like it. I don't think there's been a point in any of the movies (yet) where McClane has willingly leaped into a scenario. One way or another he's always the only one available to do what needs to be done.

I can't tell you the exact point in the movie, but somewhere before the White House blowing up video threat McLane's mission is basically over and he chooses to go on.

Also, small detail for me, but McClane needs his hair. Bald Willis is just regular Willis doing action scenes.

Do you know what you get for being a hero? Nothin'. You get shot at. Pat on the back, blah blah blah. 'Attaboy.' You get divorced... Your wife can't remember your last name, kids don't want to talk to you... You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy. I do this because there is nobody else to do it right now. Believe me if there was somebody else to do it, I would let them do it. There's not, so I'm doing it.

so basically, as seen in the trailer "Connor's story", Connor Kenway is the Jogn Mcclane of video games?

At that point he has the guy with him who can shut down/reverse, perhaps, what is going on but it has to be at the source.
I can't recall but is it already revealed at that point that they have his daughter.
Regardless, he and sidekick have to go cause it's just quicker, valuable time is lost if the chooses to be derelict in his duty at that point. Then of course once his daughter is kidnapped it's game on anyway.

So the impetus is he his thrust into it then by circumstance he really has a professional obligation to continue.

The beef DH4 takes is crazy insane.
Reminds me of the unfair fanboy crap IJ4 and Terminator 4 take as well.
Is it just the 4th entry or are people just massively jaded and vocal at that point?

I have no problem with part 4, I actually like it and I think is a solid action movie, it just that somehow doesn't feel like the previous 3 movies, like a Die Hard movie.. Or at least I don't feel it.

Yeah, given that he had hair in the first 3 movies, it did seem somehow un-Die-Hard-like for him to be bald this go round.

I liked Die Hard 4 up until the last 20 minutes. The jet was stupid and he was censored

bruce willis hardly acts anymore he just plays bruce is the problem

bruce willis of die hard, sixth sense, unbreakable is when he actually acted

No, his daughter was kidnapped after McLane "made it personal" and killed Maggie Q.

He was relieved of his duty at that point. He was surrounded by FBI agents, his mission was over. But how do you get to the scene with the airplane riding if you don't write McLane out of character?

T4 takes less heat than T3, so I don't know about that. Indy gets heat because of its CGI and silly moments and because many hate Shia. And also because many people feel that Indy and aliens don't mesh well together.

But DH4 is just a run of the mill action film which would've been forgettable had they not plastered the name DH on it. And even then, they don't try to make the hero act or talk like McLane. At least in DH3 (which started out as an action film called "Simon Says") they made the effort (and succeeded) of doing just that.

And I don't think DH4 takes a massive amount of hate. Most people are meh about it and only DH fanboys (like me) bash it to hell.

Basically Bruce Willis until 2000. Then he stopped giving a f**k.

Haha, the writers were so bad they even forgot what McLane did half an hour before saying this.

I think Indy 4 and Dh4 deserve some of the crap they got. Just because a new film comes out, you don't automatically have to like it because that's 'what fans should do'. I don't believe in straight-up hating but I'm not a fan of blind fanboy-ism too.

I mean, for some fans of any property, it's hard to be objective due to a certain..bias. :0

Also, if you're a hardcore fan of a character/franchise, you can love or hate something a bit (or a lot) more than others.

I didn't like Indy 4, but I really enjoyed Die Hard 4 and I'm a huge fan of both franchises...it's a crazy mixed bag!

My only MAJOR complaints about DH4:

1. McClane has a sidekick in the movie again
2. McClane has always been impossible to kill, but in DH4 he might as well wear a red cape and proclaim himself a superhero because the stuff that he does is ridiculous (the jet scenes, etc.)
3. PG-13 theater release
4. They hardly used any of Michael Kamen's old themes
