I've had an idea for this thread for a good while now. This idea of mine is stating that comic books are at its best at this current time.
I think the pendulum swung in the way of greatness for comics by the year of 2000. For example, Marvel has saved themselves by creating a new line of comic books such as the Ultimate imprint. The Ultimate line has been one of the hottest selling imprints of Marvel.
Its not just Marvel's Ultimate imprint, its more than that.
We are seeing screenwriters and novelists such as Straczynski, Joss Whedon, Allan Heinberg (mainly known for TV shows), Orson Scott Card and others writing comic books.
Many of today's top artists have improved their art. For example, Mark Bagley's work on Ultimate Spider-Man has much improved compared to the days of working on Amazing. There are others who have much improved.
As for DC comics, I think a great deal of credit goes to Geoff Johns for his accomplishments.
I will add more to this later.
I honestly can't remember an abundance of high quality crossover's or creative team's in the 1990's that can be compared to 2000 and onward.
There's a lot that I would like to discuss about this topic, but I think everything on the first page is a good start. There will be more added and the idea will be expanded.
So could you agree that the year 2000 has been a good jumping on period for comic books and that there has been a consistently high quality for comic books?
