The Nevada state Democratic party has pulled the plug on a presidential debate that was to be broadcast by Fox News after a cryptic joke by Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes set off an uproar among the party faithful nationally. At an awards dinner, Ailes remarked, "It is true Barack Obama is on the move. I don't know if it's true that President Bush called Musharraf and said, 'Why can't we catch this guy?'" Some Democrats quickly charged that Ailes was attempting to link Obama to terrorism, while Ailes defenders pointed out that the joke seemed aimed at President Bush and suggested that the president might not be able to differentiate "Osama" from "Obama." It might also have referred to the embarrassing caption, "Where's Obama?" that appeared on CNN during a recent report about the hunt for bin Laden. In a letter sent by fax and email to Fox News political producer Marty Ryan, Nevada State Democratic Chairman Tom Collins and U.S. Senator Harry Reid wrote, "Comments made last night by Fox News President Roger Ailes in reference to one of our presidential candidates went too far. We cannot, as good Democrats, put our party in a position to defend such comments. FNC Vice President David Rhodes shot back, "News organizations will want to think twice before getting involved in the Nevada Democratic Caucus which appears to be controlled by radical fringe out-of-state interest groups, not the Nevada Democratic Party." In light of his comments, we have concluded that it is not possible to hold a Presidential debate that will focus on our candidates and are therefore canceling our August debate."

"Boycott the news" nothing like some good old Demacratic attempts to sensor the media.....oh I mean "boycott" the media...the double standards are discusting..

It's a punk move...... Dems aren't really as open-minded as they claim. They try to shut down the opposing view instead of debate it. If your agument is strong, you should be able to take it to any news network and defend it.

And FOX is a leader for a reason....they always have liberals on their shows. Juan Williams and others always go on FOX. Don't forget Allen Colms. :csad: They don't just invite their friends on like Olberman or Chris Matthews do. Like him or not O'Reilly openly invites libs to his show...He doesn't boycott them! He debates them. :whatever: What a punk move by the Nevada Dems.

It's like Al Gore not taking questions after he speaks on global warming......what are you afraid of???

Oh, I don't know. Fox "News" has pretty well established that they're not really interested in actually reporting real news and are instead more interested in playing propaganda games in support of their neo-con masters:

While I don't think that the Democrats are trying to shut down Fox News, I have to agree that they really aren't that open minded. Ugh, I can't beleive I just agreed with celldog :csad:

And FOX is a leader for a reason....
Leader of reason?

I would have interpreted that joke as a shot at Bush, as if he got the names confused. In either case, much ado about nothing, as usual.

I really don't see how boycotting something is anywhere near the same thing as sensoring[sic] it. Did the democrats pass legislation banning fox from saying what they want? No, they don't like it, so they're simply boycotting it. I don't like O'Reilly, so I don't watch it. Does that mean I'm censoring him?

This is not an attempt to sensor, or even censor the media. It is saying the Nevada dems have had it with Faux News. Fox News is not a news network, it is a right wing propaganda machine that; stifles debate, degrades society and makes **** up. They are as fair and balanced as Mussolini. Everybody should boycott Fox News, they are discusting, and disgusting too.

I agree with that complete statement, particular the underlined. Whelther anyone likes it or not, the country is predominately somewhere in between Conservative and Moderate... somewhere in the middle of that. Fox does a much better job at manipulating people than MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN combine, because those networks are blatantly obvious and bias. Two of the biggest proponents of the NWO are Murdock & Turner, founders of Fox & CNN repectfully. They both pretend, simulate, and claim falsely to be providing opposen views, when in truth they are out to achieve the same thing, a socialist agenda.... and they used their network format to divide
a people, ideology, and judicial process.... divide and conquer.

It's like Al Gore not taking questions after he speaks on global warming......what are you afraid of???
He really don't have to because he has presented his position in his speech, documentary, votes in the Senate. We already know where his head and heart is... what more can he say or learn from him.

MSNBC in particular, does the exact same thing for its socialist masters. Don't be fooled. They don't report real news either, just opinions. The U.S. are the best News/Media Managers in the world. U.S. are kings of Propaganda... and it's dividing the people straight into a Socialist System.

Two fold... a shot at the preception that Bush is an idiot and a reminder of Obama heritage and name recognition to radical muslims.

I wasn't talking about MSNBC. I was talking about Fox "News". Yes, all of the domestic media outlets are guilty of this. Fox is the most blatant and sophmoric about it and, frankly, I'm glad to see people starting to say they've had enough and that they aren't going to even give them the time of day if that's the way they're going to operate. I hope they do it to any of the others that are blatantly pushing a particular agenda. News is supposed to be NEWS, not a bunch of Op-Ed "journalists" pushing the world view of their masters.

jag... what are you talking about. I never said you was talking about MSNBC or implied you were.

Fox is not the most Blatant, they are just the only one who has a Conservative spin, so they are easily spotted... and people are not getting it, and/or has had enough.... the overall ratings are proving that. American believes in it media... you don't see a flux of viewers turning off or running to the BBC, etc. American knows there's spin, but neither-the-less, very much trust it.

You brought up MSNBC. I never even mentioned them. I wasn't talking about them. You were.

And the people I was referring to as "getting it" about outlets like Fox News are the people who are boycotting them for their media events like some of these Democrats in Nevada. I wasn't talking about the general populace, though I think there's a lot more people who are wise to the spin that U.S. media outlets put on their content than you give credit for.

meh,It seems like the Joke was Aimed at Bush.
out of all the reasons to dislike Fox "news" they picked the weakest one possible.
