🇺🇲 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

US News
Everything I've seen is that Robinson is a historically bad candidate. He is dragging everyone down with him. So bad, he may even be dragging Trump down. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. One hopes they can break the GOP supermajority.

They’re on track to lose at least one seat in both houses, hopefully more. My dream would be they lose a LOT more but gerrymandering aids them in this case.

NC GOP barely has a supermajority in both houses and that’s why they moved fast with the 12 week abortion ban, gerrymandered maps and caving to special interest groups.

But now they’re in disarray. They can’t get the votes to further expand their voucher scheme (aka handouts to rich parents). They can’t get the votes for casino expansion. They talked about how they were going to put the photo ID requirement for VBM on the ballot as a constitutional amendment— but they couldn’t get the votes in both houses. They only got the “only U.S. citizens can vote” ballot candy on the ballot.

I really hope Tricia Cotham gets the boot as well as the two liars from New Hanover County who caved to Berger and Moore.

Trump is going to need to toss my Puerto Rican brothers and sisters a LOT more paper towels if he's gonna make up that deficit. :funny:

Man, the fact that she's close to even among the Cuban community surprises me. I lived for quite some time in an area with a big Cuban population and let me tell you.......these folk ain't leaning left.

Yeah, they swerved hard right after Obama tried to normalize relations with Cuba. I do wonder how much of them seeing what Trump lite DeSantis is doing, and realizing they aren't safe.

You would think all the anti immigration talk would be enough to turn them off. :(

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are scheduled to debate on Sept. 10, but the 2024 presidential election is already in the bag — at least according to Allan Lichtman, the American University historian who’s been dubbed the Nostradamus of presidential election predictions for his near-perfect 40-year track record.

Mr. Lichtman was among the few to accurately predict Mr. Trump’s victory in 2016 (earning him a Sharpie-scribbled note from the candidate lauding the “GOOD CALL!”). Immediately after the first 2024 presidential debate, between Mr. Trump and President Biden, Mr. Lichtman was also quick to warn that Mr. Biden dropping out of the race could be a “tragic mistake for Democrats,” leading him directly into an online battle with the forecaster Nate Silver. The confidence is rooted in Mr. Lichtman’s simple, history-driven model, which tunes out polls and pollsters and instead focuses on 13 true-or-false questions that he says hold the “keys” to the White House.

So can a model that looks all the way back to the horse and buggy days survive in an unprecedented election year marked by criminal proceedings, an assassination attempt and that Democratic switcheroo? Mr. Lichtman is confident that it can.

And what is his prediction in this unpredictable year? Well, for that, you’ll have to watch the video.

Mr. Lichtman was waiting to see how much civil unrest there would’ve been at the DNC and since it was a flop (organizers expected 30-40 thousands and got 10 times less).

Anyway he predicts in The NY Times video that Harris and Walz will be the next president and vice president.
