🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

US News
Hate to say it but the Trans issue is a no win for Dems. If they ignore it they're transphobic and if they say they support it they're attacked for wanting men to beat up on women, regardless of what the actual science says about it.

Realistically, Dems need to focus on policy and not get sucked into this culture stuff the right loves to use. Most people won't care about Trans kids if the economy is booming, people all have healthcare, and wages are higher.
I agree, they can champion such things when in charge, but dont run on it, it was all over the airways here in Ohio about trans this and trans that, got tired of hearing it/
Policy is what people care about and apparently abortion rights was not one to win with as it didnt matter to voters as much as we were lead to believe.

With today's latest batch of votes in unofficially, Trump no longer has a majority of the popular vote, rather a plurality. 1.8 points ahead of Harris and shrinking.

EDIT: Down to a 1.7 point lead after I typed all these posts up.

Would be nice if he lost the popular vote, if only for the sting of it.

I don't think there's enough vote left out for him to become runner up in the people's vote, but his lead is very thin historically speaking.

Past 100 years: Electoral College % winners | with smallest popular vote margins [plurality or majority]
2016 Trump (R) 56.5% | -2.1 [neither P nor M]
2000 G. W. Bush (R) 50.4%| -0.5 [neither P nor M]
1960 Kennedy (D) 55.2% | +0.2 [P]
1968 Nixon (R) 55.9% | +0.7 [P]
2024* Trump (R) 58.0% | +1.8 [P]
1976 Carter (D) 55.2% | +2.1 [M]
2004 G. W. Bush (R) 53.2% | +2.5 [M]
2012 Obama (D) 61.7% | +3.9 [M]
2020 Biden (D) 56.9% | +4.5 [M]
1948 Truman (D) 57.1% | +4.5 [P]

* 2024 results not final

Nah. It's for the best Democrats lost the popular vote.

That way they could focus on regaining voters instead of complaining about the Electoral College vote.

Why people like to focus on Trump getting just a thin lead? Trump will get the plurality, which is better result for him than 2016 (let alone his lost in 2020).

At most, it shows that Trump could be unpopular in the country, but Kamala (and Democrats) are even more unpopular.

I still think the EC needs to go. If there can be fake electors it's usefulness has ended.

This tweet is funny:

It clearly wants to blame lack of education on people voting for Trump, but my first thought was "so, people with poor quality of life wants a change in the government".

I'm still proud of my state, Massachusetts. :)

At this point im getting infuriated with every media piece going "We knew this would happen" etc.
Oh you knew this is how it would turn out...but you didnt bother to do anything about it?

Now they all come out of their holes to spew how they saw the writing on the wall etc when the media sat back and sanewashed Trump, excused him while dragging Harris for everything?
When they didnt do their job and instead relied on Sensationalism?
Pretentious "i told you so" is annoying the hell out of me.

Like i said before, im not a conspiracy guy...but there are many questions i have.
Like, why is nobody talking about the Bomb Threats?
And if they used starlink for some swingstates...why? Musk owns that and he has openly promoted Trump...how is that then still okay?

Many questions about these elections that nobody for some reason seems to care about.
Seeing Bidens "our support for Israel is ironclad" i get people who desperately hoped for a change on that front.
But it was downright delusional to think Trump is that change.
Harris was more likely to change her support...but no, performative nonsense and now they look dumb.
Even with the global inflation, i think you can still do something to stop greedy companies from raising prices.
But if your country is mainly run by rich corporations, its hard to move.

Massachusetts had the courage to do a wealth tax like Warren and Sanders wanted for the last decade and it generated the state millions in revenue.

Which makes sense, until you realize that most of the states lowest on the quality of life scores keep voting in the Republicans at the state level responsible for lowering their standard of living. The results of the national election could be a case of Oklahomans wanting to drag the rest of the country down to their level.

On the flip side, it may have cost the Celtics Grant Williams in free agency prior to our 2024 championship season. So the billion and a half annual increase in spending on roads, public transportation and education does have a downside.

Yes, because sportsball should have priority over that. :p
