🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

US News
Biden just became Luke Skywalker. Kudos to him, didn’t think he had it in him.

Now….

2024: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

I just heard. Now I don't mean to sound defeatist, but why does feel like a death knell?

I feel like this might have increased the chances of Trump winning the election. Kamala Harris made it onto the ticket last time, but has the country progressed to where they'll finally welcome a female president?

I feel the EXACT opposite.

Most people for a year and more didn’t want 2020 redux. Biden just did what Trump couldn’t and gave the people what they want. He rose above himself (something Trump could never do). Now it’s on.

The super rich don't care who wins or loses so long as they come out on top. Biden's administration was more regulatory and enforced laws against the rich more than Obama's did.

The past few weeks have been emotionally exhausting, for myself and probably anyone following this election. I really believe/believed in the bottom of my soul that Biden could bounce back from that debate and win, and that stepping down might be an unforced error that would guarantee more chaos and make us more vulnerable going into November. I still do have those concerns.

The good news is that so far, all of the diehard Biden supporters I follow, while disappointed, are honoring the President's choice and are immediately all aboard the KHive. An encouraging sign towards a party that can unify. I remain glass half-full.

It's time to focus on what can be-- unburdened by what has been. :eheh:

I "think" Harris has a chance to bring more young people, women, and people of color to turnout in November. The "age" issue for the Democratic Party is gone now and the ONLY place it exists is now at the doorstep of the top of the GOP ticket. Let's see how Trump does between now and November and just how unhinged he gets.

While I personally find her rather annoying, she is at least an articulate voice and, on many issues, absolutely correct. If I'm her, the first thing I do is promise real student debt relief, educational cost reform, and decriminalization of marijuana to start. Well, maybe the second thing....Voting Rights, codification of Roe v Wade, and comprehensive immigration reform.....where do I end? There's so much that has to happen.....Gay/Trans rights, tax reform, health care, etc...etc....etc.

Great to hear. Exactly what we need to see from Dem voters regardless of which candidate they back/prefer.

Women are literally facing Handmaid's Tale.

I'd say they are extremely ready for a female president to cancel the Gilead.

Yeah, I think KH should have this in the bag as long as it's done slightly well.

Trump's now gonna have to pivot to why Kamala is bad (and pivoting to a different subject is not exactly Trump's strong suit) meanwhile all Kamala has to do is point out that she's not geriatric and say she'll cause any sliver of palpable change if she gets the presidency. Otherwise we get another 2016.

God I hope it's not another 2016.

Trump has got so used to rambling off script about the same tired topics at rally after rally. He hasn’t had to change things up much but Kamala being a minority, a woman and much younger means a whole lot of changes and most of his current Biden material being thrown out. Whatever he may say, we know he was much more comfortable with Biden as opponent.

Nothing is in the bag. These elections are decided by small margins in a handful of states even when Democrats win.

Democracy is not a spectator sport, you can't internet meme your way alone to victory, people have to get out and vote and get other people to do the same.

So......wonder who she'd pick for VP. Generally speaking, it's someone who will help you win rather than the most qualified candidate. I'd say for the former, it would be Andy Beshear. As far as the most qualified, it would probably be Buttigieg. He's been right leaning in the past, but would absolutely demolish just about anyone in a debate. H e might be the most articulate voice on the political scene.

it should be in the bag is the very important wording here. If the Democrats try to approach this ala 2016 via Kamala literally just going "yeah but I'm not Trump", Trump 100% wins the election.

It should be easy. But somehow US political parties find some way to make it anything but. We'll just have to see if it happens here or not.

Social media will be important in winning the young vote. People who can influence them need to push out the importance of voting message.

And you really think it was a bad idea to switch out Biden, who everyone, even on his side, thought was too old to do this, thus giving Trump and the Republicans an easy route of attack?

Now they just have to be openly racist and sexist, meaning they can't hide from it.

If the Republican nominee was Charlie Baker nobody would be sweating bricks like NCAA athletes.

Back when you could disagree on politics, but still have a drink and he friends at the end of the day.
