You know, it all can feel pretty shallow and self serving at times. But look, I don't think there's anything wrong with holding people accountable for what they say and how they vote. That's life. If you are afraid to be called a bigot for saying something racist, then don't say anything racist.
I certainly don't think that a change in guns is happening while this congress is around, that's for sure. But it's one of those issues that's worth it to me. Because people should be shunned for doing nothing again. That's our job, as the electorate to make sure our government figures do their job, and shaming them is really the only weapon at our disposal at this point.
There's two sides to this issue, and we should be mindful of everyone's opinions, no doubt. But at the same time, we need to come to terms with the fact that this really is a problem. Once we get there, we'll all accept that something must be done. But right now.... half this country feels like the real problem is the government trying to take away people's guns, instead of people using certain guns to kill people in mass. We are so far apart on the problem, that it makes it really hard to come to a solution.
I don't know where to begin with first paragraph as you used an example that doesn't pertain to me. Anyway, accountability gains some traction moreso I think when logic arises over narrative.
Why must all these forums pertaining to real issues be so testy all the time? Anyway, I think the whole NRA narrative pertaining to guns isn't really the end all and is given too much attention. The focus really should be trying to find a balance with peoples rights and governments rights and cutting off narratives that don't pertain to someone if they simply have a critical notion on something that demands more critical thinking.
