YouTube | Jimmy Kimmel & the FCC: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

John Oliver discusses ABC’s move to pull Jimmy Kimmel off the air, what it has to do with Brendan Carr and the FCC, what it means for free speech in the United States, and which broadcasting giant should open an Italian restaurant. Ok fine: it’s Tegna. With a name like “Tegna” you’ve just gotta serve complimentary garlic knots. End of discussion.

Live look at the people re-entering their card information after proudly proclaiming that they would cancel their Disney+ subscriptions: :D

Looks more like the faces of the executives who yanked Kimmel off the air after they realized what a mess they made.

Getting people to sign back up is much, much harder after they quit. Which is why the Tiktok deal with a new app for the US is going to decimate the Tiktok audience.

They got their memorial service political rally behind them now.

All these media companies need to lawyer up which they should have seen coming, because these guys won’t stop.

Is it? I've never unsubscribed from a streaming service- I've only got HBO Max- but I figured that if you leave a service, you can just re-up for it no problem.

Its less about the actual process than it is the psychology of it. There is the audience who just forgot about their subscription, and was reminded that they have one to drop. And then you have the people who decided, they can live without that. In both cases, you have to do a LOT more work to convince them that that subscription is worth it.

I never watched Kimmel's show, but I was opposed to him being fired when he didn't even do what they said he did. I am convinced the vast majority of MAGA never even bothered to watch the clip of his joke. They were told by conservative media that it was a joke about Charlie Kirk and they just accepted it.

I bet if you asked them what the joke actually was, they would not be able to answer.

I disagree with that. The line in isolation has been circulated and reported on widely, no matter where you look. I don't watch Kimmel, or anyone on late night anymore, but it doesn't take long to find the exact thing that got folks, Sinclair included, in a ruckus.

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was, uh, grieving on Friday − the White House flew the flags at half-staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this."

And that's it. I mean, some will look and say 'Where's the lie,' while others will say 'Why address it?' But that's the extent of it. It's been a long time since Kimmel's been funny- he's no Conan or Letterman or even Craig Ferguson- but that comment itself wasn't worth the uproar, I feel. I realize I'm contradicting myself by saying that I don't watch him, but saying it's been a long time since he's been funny. But I have seen him host the Oscars, and that's proof enough!
