Discussion: The DEMOCRATIC P - Part 3

Folks like Schiff and Pelosi understand how ambitious unseating Trump is, and they understand the amount of established political capital that is necessary to turn the rank and file in the direction of entertaining it. Once the rank and file (as well as the public) seem like they'll lend support to it then you can start talking about pressuring the big names in congress to 'deliver on the will of the people'.

I think having someone with Pelosi's well of political capital and knowledge is essential if this gamble is going to be successful. She's been in congress since 1987, she's been around the block and knows how the game is played. As warm and fuzzy as it is to imagine some young upstart show the old geezers what for that's really not how this works, a young upstart's attempt to get career politicians on board would be DoA.

Yeah they're gonna use this stent thing and weaponize it as best they can.

He's 78. And campaigning isn't a cake walk under the best circumstances.

Forget about Trump or the media, how will those closest him react? The voters?

I have a gut reaction that we will hear about Sanders leaving the race in the next week or so.

I hope not. :( But if it's the best for his health than so be it.

Pelosi's history is not exactly great. She was in charge of the worst flipping in the history of the house. What has she got done as the Speaker of the House this time?

His voters won't abandon him. If Sanders leaves the race, it is because something is really wrong. Otherwise, Bernie is a "to the bitter end" kind of guy.

Which is bittersweet. I don't wanna turn Bernie into a martyr.

Maybe... But for even the most loyal the health of the candidate at the top of the ticket is a factor. First being they are voting for the person to be president, not whomever the winner of the primary chose as VP. Poor health could mean a voter is really giving the time in office to the VP choice. It is why the candidates' hrlealth does play into peoples' choices and why age is whether we admit it or not also a consideration. I know the fantasy now is a Bernie/Warren ticket but there is NO guarantee of that. No one knows who Bernie picks as a VP now if he wins the primary.

The full revelations of health issues like with the releasing of a candidate's taxes are a tradional norm in modern elections for a reason.

Are the Sanders voters by and large very loyal? You'e right on that... But a lot of polls have him in the 20's. An abandonment by the majority isn't needed, just peeling off of enough to make his campaign think it's not worth it to put a 78 year old man through the ringer. He's two years shy of 80 years old and now has not one, but two stents. These are facts that some simply won't ignore, especially since they have an equally palatable Progressive choice in Warren.

RIP to Elijah Cummings. Was always proud of him and that he represented my State.

Two people the old folks hate at each other's throats. It's probably like sex to them.

This really upset me over the weekend. I watched Katie Hill's campaign thanks to VICE, so I got rather invested in her and her victory brought me a lot of joy. There are so many things to this. Revenge porn, many forms of abuse (both by Hill and her soon to be ex-husband), homophobia and the double standard that hurts both women and Democrats. If she really had an affair with her staffer I think she needed to resign. If it is true that the person she had an affair with got a substantial larger bonus then everyone else, then she definitely needed to resign.

I don't usually agree with Sagaar, but this video is a situation where I agree with both Ball and Sagaar.
