Discussion: The Tea Party

Please Kel, allow this one specific comment to continue until it's proper conclusion (it shouldn't take more than one or two posts)

Yes I can. All anyone has to do is look over your post history. I wonder if you even have an opinion of your own anymore. You say whatever will get you the most reaction from people...no matter how absolutely ridiculous.

Okay, then give one example. Give me a single example of me radically changing my position on an issue in the last six months. I will admit that I slightly modified a position I held with the Tea Party about economic ignorance of the Palin half when Kel made a wise point, and I did something similar over abortion when a more conservative poster made a rather intelligent comment in favor of fetus rights.

As C said, you're a really funny guy Norm.

This is more of an observation than a point of dispute but I wonder if a poster sans-red font went out of his way to only post in a specific forum to goad a specific poster, if he would be called a troll.

I'm not going to humor you anymore Norm. I've said what I wanted to say. As it stands right now, you're probably sitting in front your computer screen with a huge smile on your face because of all of the attention being paid to you in this thread. I'm done man.

Let's get back to the topic of the thread at hand - The Tea Party.

No, I hate talking about myself - I much prefer talking about my ideas (I'm pretty good, my ideology is ****ing awesome).

I am not beyond criticism, I have been a bit of an ass and haven't denied that. I didn't even deny the J-Man comparisons and admitted there may be a bit of truth in them.

Your criticism of me changing my position, however, was completely baseless. Bizarrely so, really.

Since you refuse to attempt to actually support your claim, I will assume you have realized how fallacious it is.

The Tea Party it is then.

A better headline would be:

TEA PARTY EXPRESS PROFITING FROM ANTI-TEA PARTY ATTEMPT TO PROFIT FROM ARIZONA MASSACRE.

Regardless, they're still exploiting the tragedy for their own gain. They're not any better than those who blame them for the shooting.

How is it exploiting the tragedy to point out the fact that they were immediately, and unjustly, blamed for it?

Because they tied their outrage to a request for contributions.

But it would seem to me that the media reaction would give the Tea Party organizations a legit reason for funds: Response.

Yeah, as an apologist for the Tea party, you would see it as a legit reason. You'd be wrong.

And you as a guy who doesn't understand the Tea Party would naturally see a darkness here.

This is quite simple. Think of it this way, if the media immediately blamed this shooting on McDonalds (say we have been hearing a string of reports for the past year and a half that the beef in McDonalds hamburgers caused people to go crazy) - even though McDonalds did nothing wrong. The PR department would go to the HQ of McDonalds and ask for more funds to do an above-average PR campaign to counter balance the negative press.

The same is happening here, except here the "HQ" of the Tea Party, those holding the funds, are Tea Party supporters.

It's very simple. But if you are looking to be offended, you likely will be.

Tea Party Express is disgusting. Not only profiting from the shooting, but acting like they are victims. Blaming the media and the left for pointing out their use of gun rhetoric.

Yeah that type of thing is disgusting...

Given the recent tragedy in Arizona, as well as the start of the new Congress, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a few words with political friends in Vermont and throughout the country. I also want to thank the very many supporters who have begun contributing online to my 2012 reelection campaign at www.bernie.org. There is no question but that the Republican Party, big money corporate interests and right-wing organizations will vigorously oppose me. Your financial support now and in the future is much appreciated.

It's even simpler than that, I'm not looking for anything. I'm simply as offended by the Tea party's hypocrisy in this case as I am by those that would directly blame them for the Tucson shooting.

Knowingly selling tainted meat for a year and a half is doing nothing wrong? And McDonalds is the victim because the media did their job and reported this issue? And McDonalds wouldn't look like evil, greedy *******s by asking the public for more money in the wake off a mass murder?

Yeah that type of thing is disgusting...

Yeah, that is disgusting. What does the Arizona shootings have to do with his campaign? What exactly does he expect people to think? "Whelp, 6 people are dead, I better give Barnie Sanders some money."

The only real victims here are those that were shot. And there was only one person responsible for the shooting.

I know this, you know this, but somebody needs to tell the Tea Party Express this.

*sigh*

You missed entirely.

For the analogy to be applicable the reports would be false (you know, like when Glenn Beck and the Tea Party were blamed for the Census Worker death) and McDonalds wouldn't be asking for public money because they are a corporation.

Furthermore, the Tea Party only got out of this so easily because the guy ended up being found of Marx.

Could you imagine what would have happened if this guy, just as crazy, just as deranged, just as irrational - but happened to own a copy of a Glenn Beck book? Paul Krugman would want him arrested.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to get at Norm, but you should probably leave my name out of it.

I get your point. I'm just deconstructing your analogy. The Tea Party knowingly sold "tainted" rhetoric. This is a fact. You can't blame the media for reporting this fact. So for your analogy to work, McDonalds would knowingly sell the tainted meat. And yes, they make their money from the public.
