This is
THE WORST news I've ever heard in regards to Marvel. "Game over, man" as Bill Paxton would say. Disney's kiddie-friendly, squeaky-clean and risk adverse image coupled with quite corporate, conservative politics will bury the Spider-Man we knew. Honestly, all you people who complained about 'Brand New Day' (hah!)... you have seen
NOTHING yet. This is so terrible it's hard to fully comprehend. I am at a loss. Worst news (comics related) I have heard in... well, ever.
Edit: The days of mature, controversial, yet important stories (like "Something About a Gun", the Harry is addicted issues, "Mad Dog Ward") are over.
Also, Punisher fans? FORGET IT.[/quote
I am a conservative with a 3 year old. I watch Disney and DisneyXD regularly. And I can honestly say that there is no 'corporate, conservative politics' at Disney. The Disney channel is MSNBC for kids. It's shows and public service announcements serve no other purpose than indoctrinating kids with liberal propaganda. Now, thankfully, my son is only 3 and starts to lose interest after Phineas and Ferb is over (a great show I can't recommend enough) but the blatant bias of their live action shows is shameless.
And I love how the corporate conservative myth refuses to die in a country where Bill Gates (the richest man on the planet) is a liberal democrat, McDonalds openly endorses liberal politics and the Democrat party is essentially owned lock stock and barrel by a billionaire named George Soros.
Disney is a megacorporation with many different companies under its umbrella. They created Touchstone Pictures to make more mature films and expand their market share. While I am not happy with this news at all, I hardly think Disney is going to tamper with a company with a dominant market share, profitable merchandising and viable Hollywood presence. Most likely, the Disney folks are going to market Marvels characters more, and sit back and collect the cash that rolls in.
And Marvel already censors their characters in the name of liberal political correctness. Notice how Nick Fury and Wolverine don't smoke cigars anymore? Queada banned it after his dad died from lung cancer. Tragic? Yes, but no excuse for censorship.
