Yeah, I kept expecting Shere Khan to show up and intimidate Kaa. That's the best scene in the cartoon. That Shere Khan was so charming.

I'm surprised to see that not much motion capture was used in making this. The animators did such an outstanding job. I'm almost certain this opens the door for a live-action Lion King with photorealistic animals, and when that happens, Tom Hiddleston needs to play Scar.

Motion capturing non primates doesn't really make much sense because everything has to be completely re interpreted to fit the animal body anyways.

In all roles Johannson just sounds bored. Don't worry Mowgli she even puts herself to sleep.

Did she turn you down or something? :o

They couldn't have Kaa have a expanded role because Scarlet was filming Captain America: Civil War at the same time.

I thought Scarlett's voice was spot on. She didn't sound bored... she sounded hypnotic.

Addressing the way they used the elephants, it really wouldn't have made sense for them to speak given that they're portrayed as being almost the deities of the jungle. Having them talk would've removed some of the 'otherworldliness' that the movie associated with them, and made the scene where Mowgli befriends them and the scene where they put out the fire by rerouting the river less impactful.

As far as Kaa goes, I would happily have taken more of her, but it's not a detriment to the film that she doesn't have more screentime, because what we got of her was perfect, and it actually made more sense, contextually, for a friendly character to rescue Mowgli from her than for Shere Kahn to do the same, at least in terms of the way in which they restructured the story.

Saw it today and I think it was a triumph for a risky idea.

The CGI characters weren't perfectly realistic but were done well enough in conjunction with the voice acting to invest me in the movie as they interacted with Mowgli on his journey.

Turning a beloved animated movie into live action is very tricky but Favreau and his team did a stellar job, they captured the atmosphere and magic while adding an extra layer of peril without losing the humour and fun of the adventure. Mowgli in the stampede, the Bear Necessities sequence and everything with King Louis were the show stealers for me.

It really is a superb throwback to the feel good adventure film, filled with spectacle and fun.

Agreed.

Saw it today, thought it was fantastic. It is an extremely beautiful film, with some of the most adorable CGI creations I have ever seen. I don't get the complaints about Scarlett or Walken. I thought both were perfect. All the voice acting was perfect imo.

On Kaa, yeah I wanted more. But now that we will be getting a sequel, I think they will be able to solve that.

I was thinking more like $800 million+ but with drops like these who knows?

I thought Scarlett did a good job.

I almost believed the snake was being honest a couple times. :oldrazz:

Saw it today, and wow. The movie is amazing, the CGI is out of this world, and that kid is damn awesome! Way to go Disney!

I saw it last night. I really enjoyed myself. The jungle looked so aesthetically pleasing and the opposite of dreary grimdarkness and I honestly think shere-khan will be the best villain of 2016 in cinema

I believe it can make more, and 1B is within reach.

yeah, Disney doesn't have to worry, they can easily gain the rest of the money and extra from the rest of their movies that they will release, such as Star Wars Rogue One and Captain America: Civil War

Saw the film, solid work. Elba killed it. Walken cracked me up. Amazing CGI.

I also liked how Favreau opened up the film. Why can't every adaptation open up with the director talking about his/her childhood inspirations on a given adaptation? That's what Disney films are all about. Dreams and magic come to life through hard work and dedication. I think every major Disney feature, especially the classics, should have the director opening up the movie.
