Disney sets Rob Marshall to adapt "Into the Woods"

I feel bad for Blunt. I thought this was her chance to finally get an Oscar nod. :waa: It seems like she was good but not really a lead? I'm happy that Pine is getting recognized though and Kendrick and Streep were awesome as expected.

Yeah, aside from the Witch, the Baker's Wife is usually the standout role, so I'm surprised, too. But I guess maybe they gave a little more screentime to the fairytale characters here? I have seen her mentioned as one of the standouts a few times, so it doesn't seem like she does a lackluster job or anything. Something must've changed in the translation from screen to stage. I could still see her getting another Globe nod though, at least.

I have read good praise for her, but I think the only one that has a chance even of an nomination is Streep.

Blunt's role is not really that.....popular. She's not a princess, not an evil villain. Just a side character.

I disagree (assuming they don't change her character too much from the stage version). Her character is as much the key protaganist as the Baker is (maybe she qualifies as the deuteragonist from the classical perspective); in fact, she is often the agent who creates many of the key moral dilemmas that drive the storyline.

Interview with Meryl, start of the vid has a bit from the beginning (Witch explaining what the Baker & his wife need to bring her and when).

(spoiler tag for those that are avoiding watching clips/featurettes and the like)
I noticed the Witch mentioning the reason the ingredients need to be brought to her before midnight in three days time being due to the "blue moon" that happens only once every 100 years. Is the blue moon reason something from newer versions of the production or was that a reason created just for this film?
Just curious more than anything.

and a new behind the scenes featurette from Regal Cinemas

and the full track/audio of "On the Steps..."

I have to say, it's a bit weird to listen to the new lyrics. The Original Broadway Cast recording is so ingrained in me that the switch to present tense on this song is a bit jarring :funny: I'm sure I'll get used to it though. Other than that minor thing, I like her voice.

^^^She did a great job with that song. But then, she was never one of the cast members I was worried about to begin with. I need this soundtrack ASAP.

Full audio track of "Stay With Me"

Wow! I knew Meryl could sing, but that really exceeded my expectations.

Not sure if it was intentional, but I like how she seems to go back and forth between an "old crone" voice and something different that reflects her other form. The difference is more distinct than I recall from previous recordings of this song.

Didn't notice that, I'll have to listen again :oldrazz:

As for some news:

Rob Marshall Defends ‘Into the Woods’
The director explains why he made certain cuts and alterations to the new movie musical and vents about the social media firestorm that raged prematurely.

Also, posters on IMDb are saying another clip is supposed to be released today or tomorrow. If true, I'll try and keep an eye out for it (as always)

I honestly don't mind the changes, except for the Rapunzel one. Even then, I don't mind the change itself, just the reason behind it.

Anna Kendrick was on Live! with Kelly & Michael this morning. I don't know if this is the clip the IMDb-ers were talking about or if there's still another one coming.

This vid is the entire interview (sound is, annoyingly, slightly off :whatever:), the clip itself starts at about the 4:50 mark (it's Cinderella & the Baker's Wife "He's a very nice Prince.")

Interview with Emily Blunt. Short clip of "Moments in the Woods" starts at about the 0:19 mark (I love the way she does the "and a Prince for 'whatever'..." line :funny:

And a short little "No One Is Alone" featurette

I didn't tear up during that featurette... nope... not at all... there's just... onions, yeah, onions somewhere in the room.... here at work where food is not allowed at all.... ;nd

The soundtrack was released today, a day early. :)

The soundtrack is incredible. I'm in heaven.

Finally got my copy of the soundtrack.

Love all of it. Getting used to the shift in lyrics for the songs that have had their tense changed (namely On the Steps of the Palace). Everyone sounds good to me. Love the prince's in Agony and can't wait to see the visuals that go along with it. Love the instrumentals as well (and that a couple of the songs that were cut from the singing at least have an instrumental presence, like No More and Ever After).

Can't wait to see this in theaters (sadly have to wait until New Years Eve though, in a surprise twist - my dad actually wants to see this with us (wasn't expecting him to) and that's when he has a day off.... so.... yeah).

If Chris Pine is not shirtless in at least one scene, then I'm not watching... Okay maybe for Blunt, Kendrick, and Streep... AND the fabulous music. Okay I'm going to still watch it. :D

Listen sister, I'm not saying you're wrong to want this, but this is a fairy tale musical by Stephen Sondheim from the director of Chicago. Pine needs to keep his shirt on so the movie can at least retain a minimum heterosexuality rating of 0.027%.

Just make Blunt have a topless scene to even it out then. :o

Well, I ... **thinks back to a previous post you made in another thread about your "exceptions list"** wait a minute, that's your endgame all along, isn't it? Oh, I get it, the pieces are falling into place now! Shame on you! :argh:

Oh please. Unless this film has a full on love-making scene between Pine and James Corden, an eventual marriage between the two, and ends on them adopting Little Red Riding Hood together, then it's straight enough. :o
