‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’: New Animated Series To Debut On Disney+ In 2021 – Deadline

Disney+ has ordered the next Lucasfilm animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch with a premiere set for 2021.

Clone Wars architect and The Mandalorian EP and director Dave Filoni will return for Bad Batch as EP, alongside Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance, NCIS) with Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian, Star Wars Rebels) as co-executive producer and Josh Rimes as producer (Star Wars Resistance). Rau is also serving as supervising director with Corbett as head writer.

The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch – a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.

“Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+. “While the Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”

Oh cool, post CW is even better.
And we definitely know why we got the Bad Batch episodes of the final season now. :hehe:

I am excited about this. Also feels like instead of one big 22 episode show a year, we might be getting 2-3 smaller 13ish episode shows a year. I am for it!

So this whole Disney Summer Movie Nights thing sounded like a fun idea, so watching all the list. Most I have seen before, though some not for quite a while. I thought it would be kind of neat to do a power rankings thing with them.

The First two weeks were Hamilton, The Might Ducks, Days of Future Past, and Solo.

1. Hamilton: An American Musical

One of my favorite musicals came to Disney+, and it's a nearly flawless presentation. I simply can't stop watching it, as when ever I have an excuse I throw it back on. The performances, the music, every moment a Schuyler sister is on screen, I couldn't ask for more. I really couldn't have asked for more and I love it in every conceivable way.

Rating: 10 shots not wasted out of 10.

2. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Every time I watch this one, I love it just that bit more. It's a bit choppy at the start, and the climatic battle feels like such an obvious reshoot on a budget, but outside of that, I adore it. This is my favorite take on Han, Lando and Chewie, I really dig all the new major characters, and the entire Kessel Run is one of my favorite scenes on film.

Rating: 9.5 aurodium-plated gold dice out of 10.

3. The Mighty Ducks

Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack!

God this was a throw back. I watched the Mighty Ducks trilogy an obscene amount of times as a kid, but I don't remember watching any of them in over a decade. It all came rushing back, from how much Fulton reminded me of the Undertaker, to the crush on Connie, to the eternal question, Conway or Banks? It's still as made for television as ever, but the film has a charm that just gets me. My favorite part of this re-watch however, was realizing I did not realize how many of these kids grew up to be in stuff I have watched. I am still trying to recover from realizing Fulton is Foggy. :funny:

Rating: 6.5 flying Vs out of 10.

4. X-Men: Days of Future Past

Days of Future Past is an odd one. I remember really liking it when it came out, but it isn't one I revisit a lot, compared to say First Class, Logan and the Deadpools. I find that I feel like it kind of drags for long periods, Quicksliver breaks the movie and then exits for no reason, the action is blah outside of one amazing scene, and while I appreciate the look of the 70s, the future is just... yeah. It's weird because so much of the movie is based on me caring about the future characters dying, but outside of Logan and Kitty, I couldn't careless. What they did do so many of the First Class characters is the part that actually fills me with rage. That said, I adore McAvoy as always, Ellen Page puts a smile on my face every single moment she is on screen, and Jackman is as good as always.

Rating: 6.5 Kitty is the actual hero signs out of 10.

Next week: X-Men: Apocalypse. That should be uh... fun.

Disney+ definitely needs another Hamilton-like event, to satisfy subscribers. If Mandalorian season 2 is the only exciting stuff left in 2020, then they face dark times. People with yearly subscriptions will cancel it and go for a monthly subscription and cancel that after Mandalorian season 2 is finished or even just take a December subscription and watch it after all episodes were released...

My subscription ends in March and if the original content flaws like it does in the first year, I think about booking monthly when new stuff is released.
Until then, I will have watched all the classic stuff from the vault. I don‘t stay for things like Muppets now or Artemis Fowl...

Before Hamilton people were saying that they didn't have anything coming out, and then Hamilton happened. Disney Plus will be fine. All the calls of doom seem to miss out on the fact that Disney plus isn't simply for young adults who want to watch one show. It's a subscription service for families. Why all the content on there matters. Also I feel pretty confident in saying no one has actually watched all the classic stuff from the vault. If your argument is that past content doesn't matter, then no one is going to have Netflix soon either, because they aren't shooting anything at the moment either.`

Also if the argument really is about yearly subscribers, it makes zero sense for the Mando to be released before the end of November, so it overlaps into Jan, and then release the Marvel stuff at the start of the next year. Why would the release anything else major in 2020, using your own argument?

I think Disney is smart to go with the yearly plans. It does help alleviate pressure for new content. Disney+ was never going to have Netflix like output.

I feel like Disney+ has a bigger focus on 'events,' with the extensive back catalog of popular franchises as the incentive to stick around between them. Hamilton, Clone Wars, Mando, upcoming Marvel and Star Wars shows. Compared to Netflix where a lot of the appeal seems to be in quantity of content. And I love it, they put out a lot of good stuff, but their vast amount of TV B-movies (enjoy them though I may) aren't exactly driving subscriptions. Obviously everyone's plans are thrown off by the current environment but I can see the value in the two approaches.

Beauty and the Beast in 4K... yes please. :D

I haven't watched Prince of Persia in years, that will be fun to laugh at again. :funny:

Pretty good month of new content. Fantastic Four and X-Men while the MCU is up to date except for Incredible Hulk and Spidey films of course

Glad to see that they’re slowly adding Fox movies in the mix. Gives some variety.

Really need Indiana Jones there

Yeah, what's the hold up with that? Indy needs his own section with the films, The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones and two documentaries with one about the franchise and the other on the iconic study show at Disney theme parks

I assume Paramount still has distribution rights on them.

X-Men: The Animated Series Producer Confirms Revival Talks With Disney

The creative team behind X-Men: The Animated Series has "made conversation" with Disney about reuniting the cast of the beloved '90s animated series for a limited revival that could premiere on Disney+, series producer and director Larry Houston confirms in a new interview. Airing 76 episodes across five seasons between 1992 and 1997, the acclaimed and highly-rated Saturday morning cartoon was embraced by audiences both old and new when it was made available for streaming on the Disney+ platform in November. There have been "rumors galore" about a decades-later X-Mensequel, according to Wolverine actor Cal Dodd, but "nothing is coming to fruition" despite Houston's attempts at a continuation.

"We've had talks, but that's about it," Houston said Friday during a virtual Wizard World panel. "We've made conversation and it's up to them to make the decision, but we've let them know that we're all available for whatever they want to do in the future."
