So this whole Disney Summer Movie Nights thing sounded like a fun idea, so watching all the list. Most I have seen before, though some not for quite a while. I thought it would be kind of neat to do a power rankings thing with them.
The First two weeks were
Hamilton, The Might Ducks,
Days of Future Past, and
Solo.
1. Hamilton: An American Musical
One of my favorite musicals came to Disney+, and it's a nearly flawless presentation. I simply can't stop watching it, as when ever I have an excuse I throw it back on. The performances, the music, every moment a Schuyler sister is on screen, I couldn't ask for more. I really couldn't have asked for more and I love it in every conceivable way.
Rating: 10 shots not wasted out of 10.
2. Solo: A Star Wars Story
Every time I watch this one, I love it just that bit more. It's a bit choppy at the start, and the climatic battle feels like such an obvious reshoot on a budget, but outside of that, I adore it. This is my favorite take on Han, Lando and Chewie, I really dig all the new major characters, and the entire Kessel Run is one of my favorite scenes on film.
Rating: 9.5 aurodium-plated gold dice out of 10.
3. The Mighty Ducks
Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack!
God this was a throw back. I watched the Mighty Ducks trilogy an obscene amount of times as a kid, but I don't remember watching any of them in over a decade. It all came rushing back, from how much Fulton reminded me of the Undertaker, to the crush on Connie, to the eternal question, Conway or Banks? It's still as made for television as ever, but the film has a charm that just gets me. My favorite part of this re-watch however, was realizing I did not realize how many of these kids grew up to be in stuff I have watched. I am still trying to recover from realizing Fulton is Foggy.
Rating: 6.5 flying Vs out of 10.
4. X-Men: Days of Future Past
Days of Future Past is an odd one. I remember really liking it when it came out, but it isn't one I revisit a lot, compared to say First Class, Logan and the Deadpools. I find that I feel like it kind of drags for long periods, Quicksliver breaks the movie and then exits for no reason, the action is blah outside of one amazing scene, and while I appreciate the look of the 70s, the future is just... yeah. It's weird because so much of the movie is based on me caring about the future characters dying, but outside of Logan and Kitty, I couldn't careless. What they did do so many of the First Class characters is the part that actually fills me with rage. That said, I adore McAvoy as always, Ellen Page puts a smile on my face every single moment she is on screen, and Jackman is as good as always.
Rating: 6.5 Kitty is the actual hero signs out of 10.
Next week:
X-Men: Apocalypse. That should be uh... fun.
