Disney's Frozen - Part 1

For the First Time in Forever was the best song, dammit. :argh:

This is my second favorite song.

I really want to buy the Blu Ray for this movie right away, and I never felt that way about a Disney movie b4.

I can see how some may feel Elsa's ( Idina Menzel's ) voice sounds a bit sharp/harsh in Let it Go.

I know I certainly felt that way when I first heard snippets of the song. It took some time for the song to grow on me, and I didn't like it fully until I heard the full song and lyrics. THAT'S when it blew me away!!

And perhaps the sharpness of Elsa's voice is by design/intentional. to further contrast with Anna's sweeter, more melodic voice. For the First Time in Forever is definitely more "flowing" and pleasing as a melody. But, Let it Go is more stirring and powerful. It reflects all of the bottled up emotions that Elsa's been holding back. So there definitely is an "edge" or "bite" to that song. Elsa's literally going to the top of the mountains and shouting to the world to go **** itself!!

I've said it previously, but I do wish they could have had Elsa sing a reprise of Do You Want To Build a Snowman, when she's hugging Anna's frozen body. her way of "answering back" her sister after all those years, but this time, it's Anna who's unreachable. That could have been Elsa's "sweet" song to show the more tender side of her emotions.

ah well........

That would have indeed been a sweet moment.

Yeah, I can't wait for it to come out either.

so Trick or Treating must be a real drag at Elsa's Ice Palace.

not only do the young ones have to make the treacherous journey up to the palace, but when they get there, Elsa will refuse to see them. AND, if she even detects a whiff of chocolate candy in their buckets, she'll send Marshmallow out to retrieve the preciousness.........

yep!! it sucks to go Trick or Treating at Elsa's place!!

Idina Menzel sounds like Idina Menzel. Maybe I am just so use to her voice. Have most here not heard her before?

After listening to the soundtrack for a month like crazy, here is how I would list the songs.

For the First Time in Forever
Let It Go
Do You Want to Build a Snowman?
Love is an Open Door
In Summer
For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)
Reindeer are Better Than People
Fixer Upper
Frozen Heart

I listen to the first 5 way, way too much except for Snowman. Makes me a bit sad.

:funny:

At least it's a winter wonderland around Christmas.

You sound listen to the original Wicked cast recordings.

I love Idina since Rent, then Wicked (got both soundtracks). I think she is an amazing singer and actress. I'm very happy for her success in Frozen.

Frozen has had quite the amazing run so far, its projected to be at $250M after this weekend. So if we compare that to Tangled it has a chance at $350M :wow:

it would be amazing if this could get to $350m!!

for that to happen, it needs a really good next few weeks. and then it can coast........

It could happen, because its BO seems to be going up gradually instead of coming down.

I don't see it getting $350m. But my original thought after opening week that it can get to $300m is a real possibility now. Its last big week will be next week. Still a vacation week for the little ones who love this stuff.

yeah, that's why I think the next 2 weeks will be crucial.

And I agree. $350m seems to be pushing it a bit ( although you never know ). But reaching at least $300m seems very doable.

Let's assume the estimates are right and it reaches $250m by the end of this weekend. And, let's say, at minimum, it makes a total of $30m by the end of next week (that's $30m for the entire week). That takes it to $280m.

Even if the inevitable loss of momentum kicks in, it doesn't seem far fetched that it could add another $20m over the course of the next 3-4 weeks ( after next week ).

So, yeah, $300m seems a real possibility now. For a conservative estimate, I'd say a final total of around $310-320m seems doable.

Yeah if it is at $280m at the end of next weekend, $320m seems like a nice basement number.

and no matter what.....that's pretty damn impressive!! especially for a non Pixar, non sequel animated film. I'm not ( and wasn't ) expecting Toy Story 3 or Despicable Me 2 #s.

heck, I just wanted it to beat Tangled's $200m ( no offense to Tangled ), and Frozen's already well beyond that.

Brave made $237m and and Monsters U made $268m. At the rate Frozen's going, it should surpass Brave this week and MU by next week.

In terms of Disney's own animated films ( non Pixar ), Frozen is now #1. And that's an achievement no matter what!!

It is very, very impressive. It is also very deserving. While the theaters are packed right now with films, nothing touches on most of Frozen's key demos. It just keeps making money. Shows how smart of a release date it was. Now if only the international market starting taking notice of Disney Animation films. That is where Pixar and other big money animated franchises kill it. Ice Age and Despicable Me are two such examples.

Lol, $300M is locked no worries there. The reason I say $350M is a possibility is because if you look at Tangled it has about $143M around day 33 which is the same time frame Frozen will be at by Sunday with a projected total of $250M. So using Tangled's numbers 200/143= 1.40, 1.40*250=350.

Now of course we have to keep in mind different holiday configurations but I'm ignoring it for simplicity. Its also of note Frozen is picking up steam compared to Tangled.

speaking of international #s, has Frozen opened in all international markets yet?

when will the international BO #s update next? BO Mojo only has it at $152m.

I'm expecting that # to increase, yes?

And Liam, I really hope you're right about the $350. if it reaches that, that would be like icing on the cake!!

oh.....and for extra icing, a Golden Globes and Oscar win for best Animated film would be ideal, too! And best song for Let It Go!!

and yeah, Frozen is a good example of how important release timing is. It also makes you realize just how crowded the summer BO can get with all the big blockbuster movies.

It was probably another smart move for Disney to release Star Wars 7 in December 2015, instead of the summer ( and 2015 will be PACKED!! ).

but then, it also comes down to the movie itself. The movie itself has to be good and engaging to attract the audience and repeat viewings. And Frozen certainly is.
